@Firemanswife11 it’s so hard when they’re upset and I always try tell myself the teachers are coming from a good place when they don’t let you in the class or to comfort them but it doesn’t make it any easier when you just want to give them all the cuddles!
@calimom2524 I'd buy a breast pump used, no problem. All the parts can be disinfected/boiled so it doesn't bother me in the least. Things like furniture are harder because you don't know what kind of nastiness is inside, and there is no way to really clean or really disinfect.
Logically I know this is true, for some reason it still just grosses me out. Also from my experience, the breast pump I used for DS1 lost its' suction power and I needed a new one for DS2 so if I was buying used I wouldn't have the info of how long it was used or what kind of condition it was in. Craigslist just grosses me out sometimes, I've seen so many horror stories. I would never buy furniture from there either, I know what I've done on furniture and I don't want to think about what other people do.
@melbel0824 I'm with you there. Ive also been having sex dreams almost every night since I reached the second trimester. Sometimes when I wake up I realize it wasn't that sexy of a dream at all and I feel gross lol.
I'm seriously considering a breast reduction after breastfeeding. As someone with large breasts I never understand why anyone would want to make theirs larger. I guess it's a "grass is always greener" situation, but I'd love to be able to do a jumping jack without having to hold them down, or even just jog!

@calimom2524 yeah, I'm with you. I would never buy a used breast pump. Shoot, my own grossed me out by the end. I can't WAIT until I'm done nursing #2, I'm going to have a burn party for both those things and all the supplies. Pumping = death.

I bought a used breast pump. Granted it was a very lightly used hospital grade pump, so those are made for multiple users and lots of wear and tear and use, but still. They're $2k new and I got one still under warranty for $800. I got mastitis a lot with DD1 once i was primarily pumping and I wasn't going to deal with that again.
I use it for DD2 and will use it again for this baby and then will be able to flip it back for probably $300-400. So that winds up costing way less than renting one for even one year, never mind two. Totally worth it.

PREACH!!! These DDD's are only going to get bigger and I hate the weight. One time SO grabbed one and was like omg this is so heavy! Yeah...I know...I have to carry them around all day every day. I can feel them pulling my shoulders forward and I hate it.
@Firemanswife11 - I missed your post! I'm sorry! We get kicked out of the room pretty quickly too if DS starts to cry when we drop him off. It's so heart wrenching! We usually get a picture posted to our parent portal like 15 minutes later of DS happily playing. Can you call the day care and just ask how he's doing just to set your mind at ease?
I don't want implants or a lift because my boobs are small and pregnancy doesn't seem to change that. I would however get my stretch marks lasered LOL
@mrsbubbles-2 I feel like I am Monica from friends when her and Chandler are trying to make a baby and she has an awful cold and still tries to do it with him and he pushes her away haha
@derbysquirrel I am in the smaller is fine with me camp. I'm maybe a B after too much sodium. I can run without a bra if I want to. I am team small tits. I mean, I wouldn't mind having bigger ones, but I won't pay for them!
@calimom2524 do we need a FFFC furniture edition? LOL! Jk. I completely agree. Also, bedbugs. Roaches. Fleas. Etc. Nooo thanks. I bought out coffee table and end tables at an estate sale but I don't think I would have bought them off CL. I gave away my breast pump to a mom who needed it last time.
Correct me if I am wrong but aren't all (ok, maybe just most) insurance policies required to cover a pump anyway? +1 for not buying used - it would gross me out, not to mention the possible motor life issues.
@calimom2524 gurrrrl please.....These things are an H already and we haven't even gotten to the nursing part. Sigh....my poor back. I'm a pretty normal sized person too.
@firemanswife11 grosssss I did 6 years as a resort manager and the bed bug problem is AWFUL. If I bought something and brought it into my home that had bed bugs I would flip out, it is so expensive and so hard to get rid of that problem. I feel gross now just thinking about it lol
@ecwk Policies that were grandfathered in don’t have to follow all the ACA guidelines. Our insurance through DH’s employer doesn’t cover immunizations, birth control implants, and certain other things. I have to call them to see if they’ll cover a breast pump or not.
Other than those few things it’s a great insurance plan, and we never pay more than $1200 OOP For covered medical expenses during a calendar year. Plus DH only pays $35/month for it.

They don't have to, right, but I guess that doesn't mean they don't? I hope yours will be covered!!
@ecwk Breast pumps now need to be covered, but not necessarily well. They may only cover, say, 20% of the cost. Your options may also be severely limited. I'm lucky enough to have one 100% covered, but I'm not yet sure what my options are.

No, what @melprop said about grandfathered plans is correct. There aren't that many out there. But it sounds like she still wins in the cost game cause that's great insurance!
I got a pump for free last time, but my new employer will only rent a hospital grade pump for you for a year - which seems way less cost effective but whatever

No, what @melprop said about grandfathered plans is correct. There aren't that many out there. But it sounds like she still wins in the cost game cause that's great insurance!
That's what I thought. Sucks because it shoiuld be covered for everyone!! I am looking forward to a new pump this time around!
It actually is a great plan! We pay $1 for generic Rx, $3 for brand-name. Another example: I got my bill & ins statement for my beginning pregnancy labs on 1/3. The original cost was around $3000, and my OOP cost after insurance is about $330. Plus vaginal delivery in a regular maternity ward is covered at 100%!
I take DS to the local office of the state health dept for free immunizations, so I don’t have any OOP cost there. I’m hoping DH will agree to get snipped after this LO is born so I don’t have to worry about birth control. So even if they don’t cover a breast pump, I don’t mind paying $200 for a Spectra when I’m paying so little OOP for everything else. I still have my old Avent pump from DS though, so I won’t worry about it if the Avent pump still works.
My old pump with DS was shot. My insurance has changed so I’m not sure if I get a free one or not but +1 for I won’t get a used breast pump. Hopefully insurance will cover it!
@melprop I’m also hoping that if DH feels as strongly as he says he does about being done having kids, he’ll get snipped too. I don’t want to have to worry about birth control.
+1 for no way to a used pump. Even my bff offered me hers, but I won't use it. I heard that while you can sterizile the pieces, the motor and stuff can't be, and things can get in there.
I guess my FFC part 2 is that DD room is totally decorated in Craigslist finds besides the crib. We wiped them down with Lysol and repainted them. So far so good, and saved us a ton of money.
FFFC Regarding birth control.. I don't think H would consider getting snipped (he's a wuss) and I'm okay with that because I prefer condoms. I dread the baby Makin sex because.. semen. (Sorry gals that don't like that word). I hate it. It's just a nasty mess to me. I know it's not very sexy but I always make sure to have a towel down under me.
My insurance covers a new breast pump, which I'm relieved about.
Am I a dummy for thinking breast feeding (along with my naturally bizarre cycle) will be reliable birth control for the first few months? Am I going to end up with two under two?

I know several people for whom breastfeeding/pumping was NOT a reliable form of birth control. That said, sex (at least for me) was awful for a while due to tearing so, you may not even want the D that much.

No personal experience obvi but I've been pretty surprised by how many breastfeeding moms are here! The more I hear about labor, the more I think I will just use abstinence for a good while after this one is born.

I'm kinda neutral on the pump thing - I wouldn't buy off Craigslist but I met another woman in the lactation room at work and we would pump together and chat. Anyway, when I quit pumping she asked about borrowing my Spectra (hers was 3-ish years old and the motor was dying) because we had the same model. I didn't mind giving it to her because it's a closed system so I just gave her the motor part, not the tubes, flanges or valves. I'm hoping to get a new one through insurance so I'm not really worried about getting it back, but if I did I wouldn't have a problem using it after she did for a year.
But again, that's a friend and not some Craigslist weirdo

That's only if it's an open system. In a closed system pump, the only thing it touches are parts that you can sterilize and/or replace.

Am I a dummy for thinking breast feeding (along with my naturally bizarre cycle) will be reliable birth control for the first few months? Am I going to end up with two under two?
There actually is a way you can use it for somewhat reliable birth control, but there are a lot of rules you must follow. You have to practice ecological breastfeeding. That means you never use a pacifier, give a bottle, nurse at least every three hours (so if the baby starts sleeping longer on their own you can't use it). So most people don't do that.
That said, my fertility didn't return until around 17 months. I couldn't have gotten pregnant before then, but I didn't know that for sure! It's very unpredictable. Some women are just more sensitive to prolactin than others.

So much this. I wouldn't let DH come near me for ~5-6 months because shit was just not normal and did NOT feel good.
I remember thinking that I would be good to go after my 6 weeks and DH and I planned a date night and my parents watched DS and just no, no, no, no. We tried and I cried.

@juliebird6 - probably no surprise but ditto lol! I didn't want that thing anywhere near me!
@jsnakehole - ditto what PPs said, it's not 100% reliable. Until I started charting again about 10 months pp we used condoms (and a few pull and pray lol!) because I didn't trust my cycles for a long time. Like, my O date from my pre-pregnancy charts was anywhere between CD18 - 21. At 10 months postpartum I think my O date was like CD 34 or something, so it could have easily been a whoops moment if we weren't tracking. It can take a while for things to go back to 'normal' but it'll be a new normal.

Wow, I was begging to be cleared by 2w PP.
Even with bfing/pumping every 2.5 hours I was cycling by 5 months with both kids. That’s also when my milk basically dried up.
I have no problem getting a used pump. I’m hoping to be able to find a Medela Symphony on eBay, and use the hell out of that thing.

Not reliable! I know people, like friends of mine, who have gotten pregnant for this reason!
I ovulate maybe six times a year (to quote my gyno right before she gave me Clomid, "The schedule your ovaries are on seems to be 'I'll ovulate when I get around to it, jeez!'"). But I have no idea what's going to happen after baby boy comes. We want to start trying for number two towards the end of 2019, so I don't want to go back on the pill.
I guess I'll have to figure it out when I decide my husband is allowed to touch me again- which brings me to another FFFC: I was so excited to have an empty house so me and my husband could get busy for the second time since I've been pregnant, but I woke up so constipated that I don't want him near me. I've been chugging Metamucil to try to get things moving, but it doesn't seem to be working.
