This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility, and it becomes a whole new ball game. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say. Treat this as an ongoing conversation.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): donor is stimming. No updates other than that she started and it could be feb 19. Since that is a holiday I'm sure it will be after that.
How are things going?:good. I'm super impatient but my work schedule is way to crazy for me to do a fresh cycle so I just have to keep telling myself this is the best thing. I was thinking about ordering my meds so I have them on hand but haven't gotten myself organized to see what I still have from before.
Any questions?: nope!
GTKY: In the spirit of the games, what is your favorite winter Olympic event to watch? Every. Single. Event. My work is pretty centered around winter sport hence why I'm so busy!

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): last cycle on our own before IUI
How are things going?: my body listened on waiting and I didn’t get my first +opk until Saturday so that means AF won’t come until I get back! Yay!
Any questions?: yes, a temping one. So I O anywhere for 2-4 days after my first +opk. And my temp spikes either the day or 2 days after O. Since I got my first +opk on Saturday, I could O anywhere from Sunday to Tuesday (meaning Wednesday’s temp will be important). But Tuesday night we’re taking the red eye to London and I don’t sleep on planes. So how do I temp on Wednesday?
GTKY: In the spirit of the games, what is your favorite winter Olympic event to watch? I’m not a huge Winter Olympics. If I had to watch one event, it would be figure skating
@purplg8r That's great your body's timing is working out! I've never temped, so sorry I can't answer your temping questions.
Diagnosis (if you've been): NIR PCOS
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): TWW
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): IUI #3 w/ injectables
How are things going?: Oh, you know, just really hoping this cycle works. And at the same time, trying to figure out what our next course of action will be if it doesn't. I'm probably going to need to take a break from treatment June-September because of travel, so if we want to do a FET before then, we'll either need to do an ER in March or April. I'm trying to figure out our plan, but then trying not to think about it too much so I can stay a little hopeful that I get KU now.
Any questions?:
GTKY: In the spirit of the games, what is your favorite winter Olympic event to watch? Ice skating! I haven't watched in a long time, but I used to watch the figure skating, and I find the routines so pretty and impressive.
@purplg8r Ah your temp for Wednesday seems like it'll be tricky. Do you relax enough where you can just chill and lay with your eyes closed for a few hours and take your temp after? Just to at least give you somewhat of an idea?
Also - have the BEST time ever!!!
@madspunk I hope this is your cycle so you don't even need to consider the timing of an ER and FET!
Diagnosis (if you've been): MFI - Low count
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WFFET
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): I'm on progesterone until Friday and then Monday will be my actual baseline and they said to expect the transfer around 3 weeks later. Progesterone is just to ride things out until my ovaries are back to their normal size!
How are things going?: Ok I guess. Anxious. I should find out the results of our testing in the next few days and I'm just really really hoping that we have a couple normal embryos and have the option of doing a FET in a few weeks!
Any questions?: Nada!
GTKY: In the spirit of the games, what is your favorite winter Olympic event to watch? I'm not 1,000% into any of the winter stuff. But I did watch figure skating last night and watched the girl from the US nail it! I cried for her once she finished and she was showing her excitement bc she knew that she nailed it!
@purplg8r, ooh, that’s a tough temping question and I’m not sure what to advise. I’m glad your body cooperated timing wise, though! Safe travels this week!
@madspunk, it’s definitely hard to balance planning for the next steps with keeping hope alive for the current ones. FX this IUI is it for you!
Diagnosis: Low AMH, MFI
Status: WTO, still WF IVFConsult
What are you doing this cycle?: DH has an ultrasound this morning to see if they can spot anything there that might be contributing to his issues. 8 days till the IVF consult appointment!
How are things going?: I’m feeling pretty anxious now that we’re finally getting close to the appointment, but I’m also really antsy to know what our probable timeline is going to be. I’ve been reluctant to commit to other plans over the next few months until we know, but the feeling of everything else in my life being on hold for this is getting wearing. So I’m glad that we’re getting closer to having at least some idea of when we might start!
Any questions?: Nope!
GTKY: In the spirit of the games, what is your favorite Winter Olympics sport to watch?: I really like luge and figure skating. I learned yesterday that I definitely do NOT enjoy watching cross-country skiing. Boring!
@madspunk Crossing my fingers that this is your cycle!!!
I've never done my ER on holidays so I'm pretty sure it would only happen if they HAD to do it. @50Wife

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): trying on our own
How are things going?: Things are going pretty good. It's nice to have a break from being poked and prodded at the clinic. We'll probably get the repeat SA and penetration assay done in the next couple of weeks, try on our own for one more cycle, and then do another IUI with a new protocol.
Any questions?: For those who have tried both letrozole and clomid, how did you respond to each? Were there differences in terms of number of follies, lining thickness, etc.?
GTKY: In the spirit of the games, what is your favorite winter Olympic event to watch? I love to watch figure skating, but we don't have a TV or a subscription to any online service that shows sports, so I'm out of luck!
@purplg8r Sounds like it might not be possible to temp on Wednesday. That's a bummer, but you still know roughly when O will be. Have an awesome trip!
@madspunk Fx so hard that this is your cycle!
@50Wife Fx for fabulous testing news for you!
@Augusta108 Wow, your appointment is so soon! I hear you on the frustration of putting everything on hold for this stuff. It's a pain!
@purplg8r So glad you won't have AF when you're on your trip!
@madspunk I really really hope that this IUI is it for you
@50wife I cannot express how anxious I am for you! I hope you hear something soon!!!
@augusta108 I hope the next 8 days go by fast, and they find nothing on YH U/S!
@darkstar42 I have to be honest, I'm kind of looking forward to a unmedicated cycle next cycle... Hoping the SA and SP tests come back good.
Diagnosis (if you've been): AMA, MFI
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): TWW (1dpIUI # 3)
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Did IUI #3 yesterday
How are things going?: OK. I'm definitely not holding out hope this cycle because I think I O'd Saturday night. I had major O pain Saturday night, and none yesterday. Plus, DH's sample numbers were not great yesterday, I mean, they were good, but not as good as last IUI and that didn't work so... we'll see
Any questions?: For those of you who have done the sperm penetration assay (?) test, is it worth it? Is this the one that they see if they can penetrate the hamster eggs?
GTKY: In the spirit of the games, what is your favorite winter Olympic event to watch? I'm all about the summer Olympics, and very rarely watch Winter, but I love the luge, bobsled and ice skating/dancing. Although I was watching the shooting yesterday and that was mesmerizing lol!

@madspunk FX so hard this time is it. The decisions to make are so difficult.
@purplg8r No real advice on the temping question. Surely @emmasemm has encountered that before
@augusta108 I hear you on not wanting to commit and the awful just waiting until you find out how long you will be waiting until the next step. FX his u/s goes well. When will he receive the results?
@darkstar42 How are you spending your time not being poked & prodded? Hopefully your classes are still going well.
@50Wife Have they given you an update on your ovaries being back to somewhat close to normal? FX so hard for your testing results.

Diagnosis (if you've been): Adrenal/ovarian insufficiency, autoimmune stuff, low progesterone.
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WTO
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): IUI w/ injectables, take 2.
How are things going?: Mad props to MH this weekend for putting up with me. He was a great support these past few days. Last week I kind of checked out after the second beta. Starting the second cycle was more difficult than the beta results, for some reason.
Any questions?: We had the DNAF testing completed last cycle. While the fragmentation came back within normal limits, the other test they do with it came back elevated. It’s the HDS (high degree of stainability). Basically, it showed a lot of immature chromatin in his sperm, and an abnormal histone:protamine ratio. Anyone else have insight into this? It seems most studies show anything over 10% impacts fertility and poorer outcomes over 15%. He is at 23%.
GTKY: Figure skating & curling!
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): Waiting for beta from FET #2
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): My first beta will be on Friday.
How are things going?: I'm nervous. The beginning part of the TWW was easy, since I knew testing at home wouldn't do/show anything. But as I'm creeping up to 5 days past my transfer, I know I'm getting close. I had dreams about taking pregnancy tests all night, so that was fun...
Any questions?:
GTKY: In the spirit of the games, what is your favorite winter Olympic event to watch? Figure skating. Having Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski do the commentary makes it even better
@rallykat14 I can't wait to hear about the ER next week! (Even if it's a Sunday or holiday, my clinic arranges to have the ER done. I know everyone does it differently, but they do have to base it on what the body is doing.)
@purplg8r Yay, vacation! I have no advice about the temping, but I hope all your travel goes smoothly.
@madspunk It's so frustrating to be in these dual headspaces where we hope everything will work in the present, yet we are constantly having to think about the future.
@50Wife I'm thinking of you every day as you wait for those results to arrive. Crossing everything the testing brings good news.
@Augusta108 I hope they get you a calendar quickly after that meeting. I know how difficult it makes it to plan anything, not knowing when you need to take it easy or be around for monitoring.
@darkstar42 I've never been on either, but for my friends who have, they responded better to Clomid. However, they also had more severe side effects with Clomid. I really varies from person to person, though.
@RVAmom315 Sorry to hear that you aren't very optimistic about this IUI with the sperm numbers and the potential O on Saturday.
@jrm_14 Definitely take the time you need. It's okay to not be super into parts of this process, especially while you are still trying to deal with past results before being able to move onto the current treatments emotionally.

I've also never heard of that sperm penetration test until this thread. Is that to see if you'd need ICSI? Would you still do that either way if you got to the point of IVF?
@jrm_14 nothing yet! At my last appt which was last Tuesday, the IVF coordinator just called and told me to start the progesterone until 2/16 and come back 2/19 for my actual baseline appt. So I guess instead of having me come in every other day for a scan, they just gave me a couple of weeks to get back to normal.
Good luck this cycle, I'm sorry it was hard for you to get started though. FX it's all worth it! I hope you can get some answers regarding your question.

@madspunk trying to stay positive and also plan for the next steps can be so challenging. FX you don't need next steps.
@50Wife keeping everything crossed and sending all of the good vibes your way.
@Augusta108 IF impacts life in so many ways, keeps us from making plans, etc. I hope your consult goes well next week and you can move forward, not only with TTC, but with other things as well.
@darkstar42 a break can be a welcome thing sometimes. here's hoping you get to enjoy the time off from poking and prodding.
@RVAmom315 I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling hopeful about this cycle. Hugs
@jrm_14 sorry last week was so difficult. Are you doing the same protocol this cycle?

Any questions?: more of a curiosity. has anyone who has done a medicated cycle followed by and unmedicated cycle had an early O in the unmedicated cycle?

@purplg8r that's a tough one. You may just have to skip that temp, unless you take it near the end of the flight if you haven't been moving around too much, but I would still say it would probably not be accurate. Have a great trip!!!
@madspunk I hope this cycle works for you and you don't need IVF but if you do I hope you guys are able to come up with a timeline that isn't too stressful.
@50Wife fx that your embryos come back with great results!!
@Augusta108 it's almost here! I hate that feeling of putting your life on hold for IF so I hope the next eight days fly by!
@darkstar42 I had 3-4 follicles on Clomid each time but had awful side effects and my lining got super thin. On Letrozole I had about 2-3 follicles and no side effects at all. I hope the repeat SA goes well!
@RVAmom315 I'm sorry that you feel like the timing was off. Fx the IUI still worked!
@jrm_14 I don't have any insight about the testing but I'm sorry you have something else added to your plate. I'm sorry you're feeling down but I'm glad your H was supportive this weekend.
@AlohaKumu are you planning on testing at home before your beta? I think I may just wait until beta day...

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Had my embryo transfer on Saturday, just waiting for beta on 2/19
How are things going?: We got some great news yesterday--six more of our embryos caught up so we ended up with a total of 9 embryos frozen!! I was so surprised because the embryologist had said they would be checking them on day 6 but only expected 2-3 more to catch up. In other news, the progesterone is definitely working because I've been falling asleep all over the place and I'm super bloated. Trying to get through this TWW without going insane. I caught DH looking at baby names on the computer the other day and that made me so happy because he's been so negative over the past few months and he's finally starting to get cautiously optimistic.
Any questions?: anyone have any suggestions to get rid of all the bloating? I've been drinking lots of water and trying to avoid foods that cause bloating.

Re: bloating...I try and do as low carb as possible. It friggin sucks, but I feel like it helps.
Although I say this and I've been the worst with my diet.
@alohakumu so you’re 5dp5dt??? If yes, then I would be peeing on all the sticks already. But I pee on so many sticks I should buy shares in those companies... When I asked this last month (also with some PMs) there were a few who saw positives at 10dpo equivalent but most saw nothing at all until 12dpo, and proper lines were rare before 13dpo. Also there was no correlation between how early they were and how successful come was (though darker lines gave generally higher betas). This was of course not a scientific study, just anecdotal from several boards on here.
TLDR I felt you test today/tomorrow and it’s negative it doesn’t really tell you anything - if it’s positive it’s good, but no better than if it’s positive a few days later for the first time. Recommendation: wait for 12dpo minimum.
Note: I will never be able to hold out that long myself
@jrm_14 you are right that I have had the first temp rise expected in the middle of a long haul flight...
However I don’t have much MFI experience unfortunately so can’t add much there.
However a hint to listen to today’s Beat Infertility podcast - some interesting thoughts on autoimmune issues and egg quality (not only quantity).
@rvamom315 I hope you didn’t already O on Saturday. But did they not do a TVUS to check the placement of the tube they use for the IUI? Surely then they could see if a follicle had ruptured? Or am I just being far too simple here?
@50wife fx that baseline shows you’re good to go for FET! When do you expect your PGS results? It feels like ages ago since your ER.
@darkstar42 I’m glad you’re enjoying a cycle off treatment. I would say the same except my body is not cooperating.
@augusta108 that appointment is coming up so fast! Almost there now.
@purplg8r long haul flights and temping is a problem. For work I normally travel business class and even then I don’t get enough uninterrupted sleep to get a decent temp, so I stopped doing it.
Depending on your arrival time, what we do when traveling privately is plan for good food and a “nap” (sleep 3-4 hours) when we first arrive if it’s before say 2pm. That way I can temp and we’re refreshed for the rest of the vacation.
I do however use OPKs on planes without issues. And as long as you stay really well hydrated CM and CP is still reliable.
But - longhaul travel and jet lag can prevent O, so in case your O would happen Tuesday night it might get held back a day or two and it’s worth keeping going even if you don’t normally temp in TWW.
@madspunk the one thing I’ve noticed is there will never be a perfect time. So although I hope you don’t even need to plan it, if you do I would say go for a timing that is “good enough” and be at peace with it.
@rallykat14 19th is really close! Maybe it will be just before or maybe just after, but as long as it’s the right day that’s what matters most, especially as you’re not doing a fresh transfer. Are they using fresh or frozen sperm from your DH? If fresh then you’ll know for sure.
Also what holiday is next Monday?

TTC #2 - August 2016
MFI
IUI #1-3 BFN
BFP 4/21/18 MMC 6/11/18
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WTO I think, but to be honest no damn clue as my body is literally sending mixed signals.
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Testing with haematologist next week, hopefully getting the karotyping done next week too, searching for local monitoring. Trying to align which cycle we can start with the new Clinic.
How are things going?: Frustrated that I have no idea if I Od yet. And no way to get any monitoring/checks before the appointment I have on 23rd to check one option for local monitoring.
Otherwise not making any progress with my thesis as work is crazy busy and organizing so many doctors in multiple countries is super time consuming.
Any questions?: Not for today
GTKY: I’m going for curling as it’s the only thing I even have a chance of doing myself! I’m like Bambi on ice or snow!

How are things going?: On Saturday we had to say goodbye to our sweet senior foster dog. We only got him on 12/12/17 but immediately fell in love with him. He was terribly sick when we got him but his blood work indicated it was pneumonia ... what we didn’t know is it was cancer and how bad it was. He started feel better, starting eating like a maniac, was such a sweet sweet boy! The other day i was worried as he wasn’t acting right so we too him to the vet and found out the news. I’m completely heart broken. So when he was rapidly declining on Sat morning we knew it was time to say our goodbyes and held him and told him what good boy he was as he drifted off to doggie heaven
Any questions?:
GTKY: In the spirit of the games, what is your favorite winter Olympic event to watch? Figure skating
@50wife oooooh yes then results any day now!
@rallykat14 that’s a different setup to what I had heard so far - I heard it’s normal to get frozen eggs in batches of 6 (two straws), but most people if they do fresh get all the eggs retrieved to fertilize.
But on the other hand they will surely need your DH to give his sperm sample on ER day so you will know which day it is at least two days in advance.
@rallykat14 ahah. I haven’t heard of president’s day for some reason. You guys do have quite a few holidays early in the year it seems (MLK day in January). Do you have gh spring and summer?
(Note to self, weekend of 24/25 is going to be a nightmare for drive bys who have come out of TB waiting room after setting up their new accounts on 19th)

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): first round of Clomid this week (AF expected today or tomorrow) and IUI #1 this month
How are things going?: The testing results showed no identifiable issues, so RE said my infertility is likely due to bad timing (MH travels M-F for work, and I consistently O on T) as well as egg quality because of my age. So we are planning to do 3 rounds of IUI (if necessary). We just found this all out but are pleased that she is moving so quickly with an action plan.
Any questions?: Not yet. I'm just in awe of everyone's persistence and camaraderie in this thread thus far.
GTKY: In the spirit of the games, what is your favorite winter Olympic event to watch? I love skiing and skating but haven't had time to watch any of the games yet.

So I only get 6 eggs but I do think it's cheaper than many other places.... Downside is that I only get 6 obviously. I believe if I knew my donor I get all of them.

@RVAmom315 ((Internet hugs)). Hopefully it all works out.
@Avrilmai We are doing the same protocol. Will you be doing meds with your IUI?
@shortstack930 It is such a sweet feeling to catch H doing something baby-related
@emmasemm Is it the podcast on something titled DOR? I downloaded it for my drive home already
@ndz2018 Sorry for the loss of the foster puppy
@hlb8179 Sorry that you find yourself here. Hopefully it goes well with YH being home during the week for the next 3 months.
ETA: Most RE’s say 3 IUIs then reassess, which is why the (possibly non-existent) post caught my eye. We are considering 2&then IVF.

I don't know whether to throw up? Or cry? Well, I already cried. But one shot...so basically yea I want to throw up.
So with that being said, I'm glad we have one shot. At least there's one right? One little fighter. So I'll know more on Monday when I go in for my baseline appt, but apparently they want to do a mock cycle with me just to make sure I'm reacting to the meds the way I should and there's no chancing anything.
And I don’t remember seeing a post mentioning 2IUIs in this thread - maybe it was another one?
I think to rephrase it slightly most REs recommend to do a maximum of 3 IUIs due to the very poor success rates after that. But also if patients want to move to higher intervention sooner it is absolutely ok and possible.
@rvamom315 I don’t think there’s a rule on “back to backs” from a medical viewpoint...
But some insurance companies have some damn strange requirements...

"Some days are diamonds, some days are rocks,

@emmasemm I did ask when I spoke with my insurance company initially what the requirements were if we were to do IVF and they said there weren't any (ie X number of medicated cycles, etc) I will have my RE's office make sure that's the case however when we get to the financial discussion. My plan is, if this IUI didn't work, to send my RE a long-ass email about our decision to wait until I'm in better shape, and what testing/b/w needs to be done, and to make sure my insurance is in order (well I'll send that to the practice manager).
@hlb8179 Welcome! I'm sorry you find yourself here, but it's a great group. Glad YH will be around for awhile!
