  • @DanyTargaryen ugh, that stinks. DS goes to a home day care and so if I'm the only one I pull up close to the door, otherwise I park in her turnaround. Depending on what time I show up, there is ALWAYS one mom who will park right behind me when I pull up to the house and it drives me crazy.
  • @DanyTargaryen that's annoying. There was a couple whose son went to daycare with DS  (at the last place he went) and they were both super obnoxious parkers. Like, middle of the 2 car driveway. It was also annoying that they were into their 40s and both drove little sports cars that most 20yo guys drive (with the tail fin things and fancy rims *eyeroll*).
  • Driving is my preferred mode of transport. Hate buses and trains, I'd rather even drive into Chicago, deal with outrageous parking costs, and get to leave when I want.

Also, there is a time and place that I'll agree to fly, but I still think driving is less mentally taxing.

Which is good, considering we can't afford to fly to grandpa's funeral, so it's a 22 hour drive with my toddler and no husband-though a friend is coming with to help with gas and driving, she's bringing her 3 year old, so I'm sure it's going to be interesting.

  • I drive when I have to...we moved to the “suburbs” (although some people consider it pretty urban because it’s just outside the city) and I had to get a car because my work isn’t on any public transportation, and it’s easier to do daycare drop offs with a car. In about a year and a half I’ve put only 8000 miles on my car! My preferred mode of transportation is walking, and subway or bus if it’s too far to walk. If a car ride is 4+ hours I’d MUCH rather fly!
  • @stothi completely agree!!

My UO is that I rather like Valentine's Day, even though it's crazy commercial and all that.

  • @MandyMost I live pretty rural suburbs, so it's 90 min by train to downtown Chicago. Train only goes out to us like every 2-4 hours, so if you miss you cry. You have to have a car. But I'm a total control freak and get claustrophobic is a small space with a ton of people. Plus I find Chicago...scary.  On the upside, I really only put about 10,000 milestones on the car per year because I work local and stay home a lot. I get the flying thing though, I really do. I just hate lugging things through airport, and security...dealing with the hour drive there, being there two hours before it leaves, and the people again, lol. But I do it when I need to. My toddler prefers the car to the plane too, even 20 hours vs 2.5! I did do an experiment though, and between everything for flying, from our house to my grandmothers in Indianapolis (she was like 40 min from airport), the 5 hour drive was shorter, door to door time than the 45 min flight! Not true with central Florida of course. But, it's still almost 7 hours of travel minimum to fly to Florida, even thought you're only in the air a little over 2.

  • @pourmeamocktail that makes total sense about flying vs. driving for you! I’m about 15 minutes from the airport, and travel often enough that I have TSA precheck and know all the routines, so even when we flew with a baby it was a pretty smooth process! If it’s just me I just grab an Uber, breeze through security, and have a drink at the bar near the gate within 30 minutes of leaving my house LOL. I’m so bummed I can’t drink on an upcoming work trip in April to Amsterdam flying business class!!!
