So what’s the best way of going about finding a doula? I’m vaguely toying with the idea, especially because I really want to have an I medicated birth this time and I want support, DH says “well just don’t get the epidural so” and that’s not quite the support I’m talking about.
Personally I will only us a doula I know, but if you don’t have one you know, I would ask for recommendations from your local peeps. But I would highly recommend the Bradley Method class, because it really tries to involve your partner, and may help your DH be more supportive as well.

I guess it’s not too early to start a thread to talk about low intervention births.

ETA: I should have read the replies first since @Krysta6 already said everything  I did

Would anyone be opposed to me starting a baby #4 thread or checkin?  I would love to connect with moms who are having #4 and I noticed there are quite a few of us on here but I cant really find you all among the other threads.  Obviously, the general support from the group and other STMs here is helpful, but I feel like four kids like going to be a doozy.  lol.  I'm torn between it being the one that completes us or put us over the edge, or maybe a combo of both?  Also would be nice to discuss how #4th time mommas bodies are handling the pregnancy. Let me know, thanks ladies.

Yes. Sounds fun. Even a 4+. For those of requiring a padded room soon. Haha.
  • I don't know where any of y'all are located and I'm not trying to be like that weirdo the other day but I have two very good friends who are doulas; one is in the Portland area and the other is in Colorado. Lemme know if I can get anyone their info.

  • @ecwk third or fourth vote for asking for recommendations. My best friend had her son a few months before I had DD and she recommended a few. I also researched online and got a list from a local mom group. I interviewed a few in person and made my choice from there. You definitely want someone with experience but also someone you jive with and won't annoy you or your husband  :D

Good point. My husband was getting on my damn nerves when I was pushing at certain points and I yelled at him to “stop fucking breathing in my face” so definitely don’t want to add to that

  • Similar to @calimom2524 I know a doula as well!. She was in my last BMB and is amazing. She is newer to it and only had a couple clients so far, but started the certification process awhile back, she’s just had 2 babies in 2.5 years! She’s located in NJ.

  • @calimom2524 so many good doula options in Portland!

im weird and would rather less people touching me/trying to help me. DH is enough luckily, and I always prompt him and the midwives and nurses by saying I don’t want any words of encouragement when I’m pushing. It just annoys the shit out of me.

but all my friends who have used doulas love them! And multiple times have tried to talk me into using one

  • I'm a couple of days behind thanks to the bitch of a stomach bug I had, so forgive me for just now catching up a bit here.

@hardlyhannah as others have said, nosebleeds are definitely common in pregnancy. I woke up one morning during my first pregnancy laying in a pool of my own blood around my head. I got up and it gushed down my face, clothes, all over the floor. It looked like a crime scene. Totally bizarre and FWIW, normal. It was a lot of clean-up, for sure.

@melbel0824 We had a lot of good ideas for this pregnancy announcement, but in the end, we just had my DS get in his little Power Wheels Jeep and hold the ultrasound photo with a chalkboard that read, "Guess What?" I'm a photographer, so I really didn't care about our photos much. Haha.
  • I can't figure out where to post the code for my Ticker in my siggy. It just shows up as letters and numbers. Help?

  • DS2's delivery was awesome. I had my exH, my mom, my doctor, and one nurse. Nobody was giving me words of encouragement or anything annoying, it was just quiet and calm and they let me do my thing. They didn't even have time to break the bed down, I just had him right there on the puppy pad thing on the regular bed. I'm team "no extra people in the room" also. With DS1 I had him at shift change and his delivery was such a nightmare it felt like there were 38 people in the room when he was born.

  • Has anyone here dealt with fibroids during pregnancy? FTM here, Doctor didn’t seem concerned so I’m trying not to stress, but I’m curious what others experiences have been.
  • I’d love a 4+tm check in! The stm+ is fine but it seems more geared towards stm asking stuff -also great! A place for us crazies would be good lol

plus by the time you’re on 4 the oldest is a bigger kid - not too many big kid siblings here so also would be nice to chat without getting lost in the crowd

  • @art02918 I had fibroids during my first pregnancy and just had a myomectomy last year to have seven of them removed. Feel free to ask me any questions!
  • @art02918 they found a fibroid when I was pregnant with DS at the anatomy scan and it’s still there. I asked my doctor about it this pregnancy and she said it was more of a concern at the end because it can affect the placenta and take nutrients from the baby, but she’s also not concerned and it had no impact on my first pregnancy. DS was 10 days early and 8lbs 7oz so he was getting plenty of nutrients! If your doctor isn’t concerned then I’m sure you’re good!

Ok so I haven’t been too active on here...but I wanted to put a question out there. This is my third pregnancy. I have a daughter (3), a son (2), and I had spotting and moderate bleeding on and off in my first trimester for both kiddos. This pregnancy is no different and I had quite a bit of spotting around 5 weeks, moderate bleeding around 7-8, and I have some spotting today (almost 12 weeks).  I have been to the doctor a bunch to have things checked out and to get that awesome shot in my butt (I’m a B neg bloodtype). Nothing conclusive after all those visits, and I am growing a healthy baby. I just can’t help but still be nervous.

I just wanted to see how many of you had some spotting or bleeding that resulted in a healthy babe, or are experiencing this the first time with your first babe?

Fingers crossed everything still continues to go smoothly!!

  • @katie1885 with DS I had spotting and bleeding through 12 weeks, enough at one point to warrant an er visit. DS was perfect and healthy but it’s scary! I really hope that it stops soon for you!

  • @katie1885 It sounds like a sub chorionic hemorrhage, aka an sch. I have had one with both my Little’s, and have one again right now. This current one is from the loss of twin b at 7w5d. It’s scary and can be super unpleasant, but if your doc isn’t worried try to relax unless something changes or you can fill a pad an hour or have sever cramping.

@princesslockness Thank you for your input. I forgot to add that I did have a SCH with both two previous pregnancies, but this time they didn’t see anything so it’s just so strange to me...like where is it coming from??!! Ugh. I am so sorry to hear about your one twin, but I am glad that the other is thriving. Fingers crossed for healthy pregnancies!

I had the same thing. My doctor had given me pain killers and I actually ended up using them not because of the procedure but because I was so sore. It was very painful, my neck had never hurt so bad. It got worse before it got better. Definitely took a few days. I read it can be normal but worth mentioning to your dr

  • @princesslockness I've had general anesthesia several times and never recall symptoms like what you describe. Mostly I feel normal, aside from whatever pain the surgery resulted in, a sore throat if they used a breathing tube, and just a general tiredness.

Anesthesia can affect different people differently. But it'd be worth mentioning it to your doctor st any rate, I think.
  • @princesslockness I've had general a lot. I got nauseous once but I mainly just suffer the shakes when I wake up. I've never had the all over soreness you describe.

I'm going in for a cerclage on Friday and think I'm going to be under general too. I'd rather have a local so I can be awake, but I'm not sure I'll have that option. Coming out of general sucks..
  • @hezzer78 They really pushed for me to have a spinal. When the guy started to clean the spot on my back and I spaced so hard I fell in the floor, they decided that general would be ok.

Good luck!! It wasn’t awful either time, and the soreness from the actual procedure has even gone with a couple hours both times.

  • @princesslockness DId you have a spinal last time? Do they hurt real bad - is that why you spaced out? Or just general anxiety about the whole thing?
  • @hezzer78 I had one with my induction/c sec. and another for my last cerclage. They don’t hurt per se, it’s just the waiting, knowing it’s coming, and having to hold completely still. Also neither of mine have taken well, and the headaches afterward were literal hell on earth.

Hopefully you don’t have those problems.

  •  @mrs_drc_rn - Thanks! I think I have several as well and a myemectomy may be in my future. Did they complicate your birth at all?

@amac12999 - Thanks for your reassurance! The doctor seemed pretty chill so I'm trying not to worry, but also really hoping that they don't get any bigger. I'd like to avoid a c-section if possible, which seems like a greater possibility now. Happy to hear your DS is healthy and your newest looks good!
  • @art02918, sorry! It took me a few days to find this thread! I got extra ultrasounds during my pregnancy to make sure the fibroids weren’t interfering with DS’s growth. As far as the actual birth, he was born prematurely at 34 weeks but they are not sure what the cause was. My OB and RE thought most likely it was the fibroids, but my MFM said that’s not necessarily true and people with fibroids can have full-term births.

I had seven fibroids, four of which were pretty large. They grew during my first pregnancy and never shrunk, which caused us to have trouble getting pregnant this time around, and hence the myomectomy last year. Let me know if you have any questions about the surgery or anything! Mine were all calcified, so I had an open myomectomy as opposed to laparoscopic.
  • @mrs_drc_rn  I have lots of questions, because I haven't heard of fibroids affecting pregnancy or a myomectomy until I 'met' you.

What are the fibroids made of, and how could they affect pregnancy. Do they typically shrink back after a pregnancy? What is the actual precedure of myomectomy, like is it a scrape off or a cauterize thing?

@princesslockness I believe they’re primarily made of muscle cells and tissue, and the affects they have on pregnancy are related to their size and location on the uterus. If the placenta implants near the fibroid, there’s a chance the baby can be deprived of nutrients because of increased blood flow to the fibroid. The shape of my uterus was really distorted because of mine and I’ve read that can lead to placental abruption, which is what happened to me.

There is a procedure you can get done to cauterize them, but I think they can also do that during the myomectomy. I think usually they make incisions to get them out. With the laparoscopic  myomectomy they’ll use a morcellator to cut them up into small pieces and pull them out.
  • @mrs_drc_rn sounds like a fun procedure to watch. I’m glad you are doing ok, and that it doesn’t look like it will cause too many issues this go-round.

  • So I know HG can last until the day you give birth in some cases, but can you have mild nausea the whole pregnancy? I stopped taking diclegis and unisom+b6 because I didn’t feel like it was helping much and I was so tired all the time, but maybe it was helping a little? I feel so gross today. I’m 13+3. Whyyyy do I still feel like this?

  • @lalala2004 My sister was nauseous and threw up every single day of her first pregnancy, including the day she delivered. Fingers crossed it's just taking a little bit longer for your nausea to fully go away. I'm too nervous to stop taking the diclegis because even with it I still have some nausea.
  • I know the essentially oil discussion was in another thread, but I have a related question so moving to the questions thread.

Anyone have any ideas for something that I can put around or in my nose to help with having to perform a particularly stinky job for the next few weeks? Someone at work told me to use peppermint oil but I was hoping for other suggestions. Have been super smell sensitive lately and am really unsure of how I will do at work the next two months (my job sort of changes every few weeks, and I'm moving to a stinky job on Monday. Its confusing without giving away too much identifiable info about what I do).
  • @doctormom33 I've heard peppermint oil as well so I'm not much help.

@Firemanswife11 may have more insight though, she's the pro!
