I selfishly started this thread because I have two questions...
1. NIPT - I'm getting this done today, and was curious how much blood was drawn for it if you've had it? I swore I read somewhere (although I may have dreamed it) that they take a LOT - like 12 vials full. Last time my doc took that much from me, my vein dried up and I almost passed out. Just trying to be prepared
2. Social Media announcements - I'd like to make an announcement on fb/ig. I want to take a photo then add text and maybe a border - is there a special program to do this? Or a good app that may help? (I know you can add text to IG posts, but I want it to look a bit nicer than that). I'm not planning on ordering any cards or anything to put out in the mail... What is everyone planning to do?
@hezzer78 I don't remember how many vials they took last time but I don't think it was 12. I got it done with some other blood work and they might have taken about 8? But some were smaller vials. All those words and I'm no help!
For the app recommendation - Photofy has some really cute templates and art things that you can add to your pics. It's got some basic filters and stuff too.
@hezzer78 they only took 4 or 5 vials from me. No advice on the second question, we just announced on social media yesterday with a picture of DS wearing a 'big brother' shirt and holding a few books about being a big brother.
Me: 28, DH: 40 Married 9/28/13 DS born 11/12/15 EDD 8/13/18
DH does photography, so he was going to take care of the Facebook announcement (we're getting two tumblers, one that says 'mom' and one that says 'dad' and we're putting a shot glass inside the 'mom' one and writing 'New Drinking Buddy, coming August 2018'). But a lot of my friends use the BabyPic app for borders and stickers and it looks cute.
Does anyone have days where they feel less pregnant than other days? Like I'm still nauseous, still have sore and swollen boobs, but I'm looking less bloated and feeling a little less blah than usual. It could totally be because I had really bad back pain the other day, and my mom rubbed my back for me and it feels better, and I'm also at 9w3d so I'm heading into the tail end of my first trimester. I just want to make sure I'm not totally crazy.

@hezzer78 they only took one vial from me, but that doesn’t seem the norm. I don’t know what I’m going to do social media wise. I got a baby story app and have been using it for my bump pics but there are tons of fun stickers/ graphics for announcing too. Plus monthly ones you can use with the baby.
ETA: I had a question, forgot, and hit post! Anyone else’s stomach already itchy? I don’t know if it’s because it’s been colder so my skin is dry anyway but my stomach is itching so much already. I don’t remember this from last time.
@jsnakehole - not crazy at all. Symptoms are totally fluctuating right now because the placenta is starting to take over. I have days that I forget I'm pregnant altogether and then the next day the nausea shows back up worse than ever.
@jsnakehole Yes! I don't know if I'm getting used to how I feel pregnant or I just don't always feel the same. My boobs aren't as sore all the time and my appetite is back so I get nervous. I do feel super anxious and I'm dying to make it to my next appointment just to be sure everything is okay. To your point we are nearing the end of 1st tri (I'm 11 weeks today) so we should start feeling better and regain a lot of our energy.

Good morning! Love that gif, Jennifer Lawrence is funny.
I don’t remember the blood draw but I think I’m getting mine later this week. I know they recommend drinking a ton of water before a blood draw, so try that. Can you call the doc to ask? Good luck!
When I was pregnant with DS, we took a picture of this joke gum box my fil had gotten me for Christmas. The box said “Don’t Have Ugly Children Gum”, so I posted a pic of that, said I’d been taking these pills and will find out the results in X month. It was funny but we also have a weird sense of humor, lol.
@jsnakehole I'm the same way. I'm almost 11w and other than my sore boobs and a penchant for waking up at 2AM unable to go back to sleep, I would never know I was pregnant. I was pretty bloated, but my pants still fit fine so I guess that's going away. No more nausea - and definitely no food aversions. More like food attractions! All I do is eat, I feel like.
@amac12999 I have babystory - I'll take a look at it and see what we can do. I want to do a shoe pic and add the due date and some cute sentence.
@mrsbubbles-2 Thanks for the app recommendation! I'll check out photofy
@hezzer78 I wasn't looking at the blood being drawn with DD2 for NIPT but it took FOREVER and was definitely a lot of vials. I wasn't prepared and it was first thing in the morning so I wasn't well hydrated so my blood was loving so slow. I'm having it drawn at noon this time so I'm going to chug massive amounts of water first to help the flow.
@amac12999 yes not bad but it itches. I have started looking up stretch mark cream. I used Sexy Belly last time and I got no stretch marks. Sadly they no longer sell it. I may go the coconut oil aloe Vera route this time.
@hezzer78 Mine was 6-7 medium to large vials for the Progenity test. I was surprised at how much they took, but it really wasn't bad. We have so much more blood volume now that I don't think it was as significant as it would have been pre-pregnancy. I was able to go work out right after with no ill effects.
Me:32 DH:45 DSD: 20 DSS: 18 Team green baby due: Aug 6th, 2018
@hezzer78 the blood draw was normal for me--nothing major. Certainly not 12! I guess it depends on the size of the vial, though.
@jsnakehole It's funny that you wrote this today because I was thinking this today. No bloat, high energy, good mood. I'm feeling great!
Has anyone gone to a baker to make a "gender reveal cake?" (air quotes intentional here as I don't think you can go to a baker and ask for a sex reveal cake.) I am not really into stuff like this, but for some reason I've got it in my mind that I want to get a small cake for me and DH to cut into and learn the sex of the baby through the icing color. We're trying to eat fewer desserts -- and have been doing a pretty good job! -- so I thought this would be a fun "treat" for us. Anyways, I should have my results so soon. Are bakers familiar with this kind of thing now or will they look at me funny?
@vinerie - the cakes in my area are super popular so it was easy to take our results in and get a reveal cake. If you're cutting down on desserts our neighbors just did cupcakes with the colored filling. That way there wasn't cake in the house for days.
@vinerie We are doing this, the baker seemed familiar with the concept, although we haven't taken the envelope yet (we are hopefully picking it up on Thursday). And I totally called it a "baby sex reveal" in my email

Is anyone still really nauseous pretty much all the time? OB says I’m on the verge of severe morning sickness and is going to put me on meds if it doesn’t clear up by my 16 week appt.
I don't care one way or the other, but I noticed we are doing daily ticker change threads now, as opposed to the "by week of the month" like we used to. Did I miss something? Just curious if there was a convo or if it evolved on its own .

I think it was decided in one of the FFFCs or UOs. It was a general consensus after a week of nobody posting the weekly due date check ins that ticker changes were the way to go.
@hezzer78 My OB combines the blood draws for me so I only have to do 3. So I had the NIPT (Progenity) + the typical 8w maternity panel that they do. It was a lot of vials- maybe 8? But my best friend went with me and did a great job of distracting me so it went fast.
I took DS to do a little mini Valentine's Day photo shoot this weekend with a sign that says something about being a Big Brother. I'll post that on social media for our official announcement. He wore a bowtie, it was the cutest thing ever. Nobody is going to read the sign.

Haha I did the same with DS1 only he was wearing a superman shirt with a cape and we did the "every superhero needs a sidekick" sign. It took my family members a while to realize he actually had an announcement and I didn't just send a cute picture.
I was just thinking about a social media announcement, but I don't know what I want to do. This is my first, so no other kids to help out. What did you do for announcements with your first?

We did a pair of my chuck taylors, my ex husband's chuck taylors, and then baby chucks in the middle saying "our family is growing by two feet." Super cheap and still cute.

DH and I are both big football fans so I bought LO a onesie that says "I'm told I like football" and we are going to take a pic with it on Sunday at our Super Bowl party and then post something about football season coming to an end but looking forward to next season with our new football fan.

@melbel0824 for my first I did a super low key announcement and just posted a stack of books with a title that said something about my current reading selection and one of them was “What to Expect When You’re Expecting.” It was kind of funny to see how long it took people to get it lol. For my daughter I didn’t really do a social media announcement, but I would like to do one this time around again. I’m thinking something about a tie breaker since I have a boy and a girl.
@melbel0824 we announced around Christmas since DS was due in June.that was ours. We lost that sweet dog right after DS turned 1, so I love looking at it now.

Lol that was me I had 12 taken! They did general workup stuff though on top of the genetic stuff
Test was only 2 vials - phew! But now I have more questions from my appointment!
I have three docs - my RE, high risk doc, and my general OB. RE is placing a cerclage in a few weeks - totally preventative (I had a septum in my uterus and she just wants to err on the side of caution). RE says it's fine to have sex and continue belly dancing after the cerclage is in. High risk doc says no way - on both accounts. RE says because it's preventative (and not emergency), those activities are fine - what to do??
@jsnakehole That cake is amazing. I kind of wish I was doing a sex reveal just to order something like that.
@hezzer78 I'm not sure anyone here can give better advice than your doctors? Annoying that they say different things, but I guess that's going to happen with multiple docs
