I gained 50lbs last time, but I’m doing a little better this time so far. I’d rather not do that again, but I lost it once, I can lose it again. It wasn’t easy, but such is life. I was wearing a dress today, so I did a top and bottom bump pic
Can I just say THANK YOU to all the moms that are being upfront and honest about their weight gain. I always thought I was just a maternal cow. Lol. Even though I’m pretty sure my boobs are half the gained weight. Lol. But super thank you for making us all feel normal. Knowing it happens. And we bounce back. And it just doesn’t matter.
I second Dirtanddiamonds. I'm already at my highest ever weight, and feeling very self conscious. Between quitting smoking and pregnancy I've gained 13 lbs since September. Thanks for making me feel more normal.

Yes! I'll third the realistic weight gain talk. I need to keep hearing this too. I have a checkup today and I'm dreading the weigh-in. I get so fixated on the weight gain charts by week. Some say you shouldn't gain any weight in the first tri, and I know that's not happening here! I will say the midwives are so reasonable and realistic with me. One week last pregnancy I gained like 8 or 10lbs in a week. I was so concerned but my midwife was like, well, don't do that every week, but weight gain is never linear, so don't worry!
@westphilly I seriously do not understand how people could not gain weight in the first tri. Unless you have HG, isn't everyone just eating survival food and hoping for the best? That's how it is in my house...like Wendy's and Arby's for dinner because the thought of literally anything else makes me want to hurl. Of course I'm going to gain weight.
@Juliebird6 I lost 3 lbs in my first tri last time because I was being super careful about not eating junk but also I think the whole no alcohol thing had an effect! I sure made up for it once in the second tri though!
I will 4th the realistic weight talk!! I was (and maybe still am) super paranoid about too much weight gain - I tend not to lose very easily and the thought of taking off more just overwhelms me. But the real talk from everyone does definitely make me feel a bit better about it all...
@derbysquirrel Congrats on quitting smoking - I quit 10 years ago and it was tough.
Yes! Last time I beat myself up because of all this talk of gaining 25ish lbs that people put that expectation on you and you feel like a massive Fup when you already have enough to be stressed about. This time I'm just like....whatever, see the way that kid looks at me? He doesn't see "fat", he sees Mommy and I'm his favorite. Boom.
So FTMs, expect 50-60, feel normal and enjoy your pregnancy!
With my first pregnancy I gained pretty steadily the whole time and gained about 30 lbs. With this one between the constant colds (working through #4 right now. Thanks weakened immune system) and morning sickness/nausea I've lost 8lbs.
@livinthesunnylife - Yes to all of that! The number on the scale is a piece of a bigger picture when it comes to the health of mom and baby. Weight gain is supposed to happen and I've NEVER met a woman that stayed in the magic 25 lb range. But I know plenty of healthy moms and babies
@westphilly with my 3rd I don’t think I gained much in 1st tri, if any. But I also had zero ms at and had no reason why I couldn’t eat healthy - no food issues.
Talking about the weight gain/loss, last time I lost 10lbs in first 15 weeks (net 5lbs). I was terribly sick, I'm thankful that's not the case this time, it was concerning last time. I was terribly sick more than half of my pregnancy. Crazy how different each pregnancy is, really haven't been sick at all so far. *Knock on wood.
Can’t believe how far along our group is already. The first trimester is winding down and it’s all going so fast!
At my appointment last week I’ve lost over 7lbs because of crappy night shift schedule and morning sickness. Usually I gain around 40lbs - 50lbs until the preeclampsia hits. Last time I gained 11lbs in one week from the swelling.
First pregnancy I lost weight until 20 weeks. Then they gave me zofran and I gained 17lbs in a month. My doctor was furious. But seriously y’all starved a pregnant lady halfway through her pregnancy what’d you expect?!?
This was 9weeks 1 day on Monday. I’m really short and my belly just pops out quick. We’ve been trying to hide the pregnancy from family until we’re out of the first trimester but not sure that’s going to be possible at this point.
I had pretty bad HG during my first pregnancy. Started out at a healthy weight, lost 23lbs in first tri, and by the time I delivered I was only 5lbs over where I'd started. This time I am so, so grateful not to go through that again even if I do put on more than I "should."
My first experience was not healthy. I still don't have the muscle tone or stamina I did prior, despite working hard to get it back.
I am losing weight because of all the food aversions and nausea but I definitely feel uncomfortable in my regular pants at 9 weeks. I already pulled out the maternity clothes. I lost 15lbs in the first trimester with my first. It’s crazy how everyone’s pregnancy is different. I read an earlier post about how can you not gain weight in the first trimester and literally I love food, except when I’m pregnant!
Oh and I forgot to add. I gained big and each time (except the last one but there was a lot of stress - moving stress then losses so I started this pg heavier than I ended my 3rd - ugh) I lost it all PLUS. So I started my first pg at 155 (I think) and started my 3rd at 135. We won’t talk about my starting this time and how far I’ll have to go to get back to my goal weight.
But... it’s doable and I know I can do it bc I have before. It took my 9m+ each time slow and steady. Some ppl hang onto weight nursing and some it falls off. Me, eh. I liked trying to lose while ebf because those extra 500 cal per day helped so much. But I couldn’t lose anything without trying. Once I slowed down bf I gained back some bc I wasn’t burning as much extra.
@derbysquirrel I am not sure. It was a Christmas gift for my daughter from our neighbors. They love her, so they always buy her big gifts. I think they spend way to much on her, but they won’t let me tell them no.
@msbubbles27 and @amac12999 thank you. I live in dresses when I am pregnant. I had to leave the house today for work, so i attempted to look presentable.
I am loving all these bumps! I'll be joining in this week. Couldn't get on the ball to snap any photos yet.
Re weight gain during pregnancy. With both pregnancies I started out losing weight during the first tri. My first I lost 6 lbs, this one I've lost 3. It's only because of food aversions and only being able to eat small portions. Don't worry, my second tri definitely made up for my initial loss. I gained about 25-30 lbs with DD, but put it on pretty quickly around 15 weeks.
@hfooter I just got into The Magicians and love it!
I haven’t had a chance to take a picture but it’s definitely some blump for sure. About the weight gain.....for this pregnancy I weigh almost what I weighed at the end of my last pregnancy so I am beyond worried about adding another 50-60 lbs. I tried to eat healthy at first but my reflux made that impossible so I’m already up 10 lbs at 10 weeks. Once I get some energy back I plan to cook more and go back to the gym but for my next visits I think I will just turn backwards to the scale so it doesn’t make me crazy
