Re: Weekly Questions w/o 1/21

• @Patience7150 it is unlikely that the vaccine you received contained thimerosol, but even if it did you have no reason to be worried. There is absolutely no evidence that thimerosol is harmful during pregnancy, and plenty of exposure information showing there are no increased risks. Here’s a cdc website: https://www.cdc.gov/features/pregnancyandflu/index.html

• Thank you @adirat @MandyMost and @Mandamay1414! I did get the shot in the US, and y'all reminded me I am able to look up the records online and confirmed no mercury. Whew!
• Hey guys FTM here so not sure if this is normal but I am already starting to not fit into clothes. I am 5 weeks today and pre-pregnancy I was 143. Now I do have a big mid-section/loose skin I never got fixed following my gastric bypass and 132lb weight loss. But now I already have a bump, I am sure a lot of it is bloat because I have only gained 3 lbs. I have been eating and drinking a lot of protein and dairy. Anyways I had to buy bellaband from my work for some of my khakis that I have to wear at work (I work at a retail store). Anyways is this normal for some? Thanks.
For some people, we just show quickly. Even though uterus is down low in pelvis, it's growing and potentially pushing other organs up and out, in addition to bloating. Short torso ladies are more prone to early "bumping." I went up two pants sizes and couldn't get hair tie trick to work at 5 weeks, so maternity pants it is.

• I got a BFP on a FRER on Jan. 20th. I had my blood drawn on the 22nd and they said my levels are at a 49. I took a clear blue today and the lijne is super faint. Anyone else have slow rising HCG? I'm trying not to get worried, but I've been crampy and of course my mind goes there
• @xxkberxx Not in the app and also not on the mobile website either (I just log into website from my phone because the app rumparoos so badly on my phone!). It's irritating for sure!

• Does anyone else's ob/gyn use MyHealthRecord?? I went in today and the bloody thing hasn't updated yet. Trying to be patient it is really, really hard. Mostly I want to see my stats because I don't remember but I remember they were abnormally high... ack.

@starswilldiex2829 Bloating is totally normal! I have a lot of loose skin from my previous pregnancy and my weight loss afterwards, and I'm not going to lie I've been wearing my joggers /hard/. I even unbuttoned my jeans. I'm a little past 5 weeks I think (waiting for blood test results in the next few days) so I'm right there with you. You can also use a hairtie to extend your pants-- hook it through the button hole, then loop it over the button... if that makes sense. I remember loving my maternity jeggings, though!!

• @starswilldiex2829. I literally just came here to ask a super similar question!

I am 5 weeks and 1 day and in a very similar boat. I am so bloated that I definitely have a belly now, and I didn't at all 2 weeks ago. I can't even suck it in haha. I am sure it is due to bloating and such but it is confusing me because the baby "bump" doesn't typically come until 12-13 weeks, from what I have heard. So my question is- does the bloating go down and then I notice a true bump later or am I already showing? Thank you!!
• Our surrogate is leaning toward giving birth at a midwife clinic within a local hospital which my DH and I are super supportive of. We're going on a tour of the facility early next week; as this is our first kid what kind of things should we look for/ask while we're there?
• @jenlp44 it depends, everyone is different. With my first I didn't ever have a "blump". At 20wks I was just starting to get a hint of a bump. Now, I'm 6wks with #2 and if I don't consciously choose clothing, I look preg. I don't think it's going to go away before being replaced by the official bump for me :'(

A combination of things can happen. Usually the bloat will slow down after the first tri as hormones level out and change. The uterus doesn't move out of the pelvis until 12ish weeks (but that can vary), but it starts pushing other organs around as it grows. So probably the bloating will go down, and then you'll have a "bump" that isn't actually the baby and uterus, it's more like your other organs pushed up and out *by* the uterus, and then later a truly true bump.

So it kind of depends on what you mean by "showing." It's all due to pregnancy, and how quickly and how much all of this happens varies from person to person because we have more or less muscle holding things in, more or less fat as an outer layer, and more or less room for everything to move around before it starts moving outward, not to mention babies and uteri that grow at different rates.

But I don't personally consider this early bloat stuff to be showing; I can still kind of suck it in and I've also gained about 10 lb already I think, so that's got to be having an effect. If I don't suck it in, I look like I did around 15 weeks or so last time.

• @hxtaru my ob uses my health chart. It took like 2 days to get a positive blood test back then the urine tests were updated like two days after that then the rest of the blood labs showed up another three days. They did say they would call if there was anything concerning so I just didn't worry and waited super patiently.....ish....lol.
• @e-i-r-i-k I would take a notebook to write down questions you think of as you go. We're doing a birthing center as well and our main questions were safety related. What degrees do the midwives have? What, if any, emergencies are they equipped to handle? Also we wanted to know how many people were allowed in the room since it'll likely be us, my mom, the midwives, possibly a doula and possibly a photographer. Oh, and what kind of post-natal support there was for the family.

@e-i-r-i-k Midwives and birthing centers are great. I would also ask what criteria they use to qualify and disqualify candidates to birth there and their procedures/ criteria for when to send a birthing mother to hospitals etc. and which hospital they affiliate with.
• @Mandamay1414 & anyone else who might know! There is a huuuge flu outbreak in my area and I'm thinking about going to get the flu vaccine even though I don't usually get one (I have the past 2 years, but rarely before then). I know it's less than 50% effective, but that sounds better than nothing to me. I know they offer a different vaccine to pregnant & breastfeeding women, so is it fine for me to get now as long as that's what I get? I had to switch doctor's due to an insurance change and haven't ever seen the OB I'll be using for this pregnancy (first appointment is next Friday).

• @yogapants247 I heard most flu shots are pregnancy safe here... I think you need one that is preservative free maybe (definitely don’t quote me on that.) When you go to get it let them know you’re pregnant- anyone administering the shot should know whether it’s pregnancy safe.
• @yogapants247 I heard it's probably best to get a flu shot in a place without sick people so that you don't contract it while getting the shot. (terrible thought!) I'm thinking to get mine at a grocery store since the pharmacist seems really good and I don't want to go to our nearest clinic. Too many sickies.

• Does anyone else have experience with low hCG? It went up slightly over 48 hrs (80 to 96). My progesterone is also low, not sure if that would affect it? Would my age have anything to do with it (I'm 38)? I'm not having any bleeding or cramping, but of course am worried.

• @wkuandrea have you had an ultrasound to see placement?
• chelletn they haven't yet -- they scheduled the first one (before any of these tests) for 2/12. I'm going to push for one though, under the circumstances and for my sanity

I have been dealing with discharge as one of my symptoms. It's not terrible and it's clear and almost eggwhite-ish but whenever I feel it I get all freaked out that it's blood (I have had three previous miscarriages). I am a nervous wreck in general about this pregnancy but I keep trying to convince myself that having discharge is a good sign (I don't remember discharge with my two live birth pregnancies before) because my hormones are doing what they are supposed to be doing?

Anyone else dealing with it as a symptom?
Yes, it’s one of the grosser symptoms IMO. I feel it and think it’s blood too. It does get worse though. During the third tri last time, I had to wear panty liners every day.

Is anyone else totally not excited about their pregnancy? We’ve always wanted another baby and though the timing isn’t great, I was so thrilled to find out I was expecting. Maybe it’s because of how tough the ms has been but man. I haven’t gotten excited about anything pregnancy/baby related in weeks. Feels a lot like PPD.

Also, continuing the discharge question, what about very infrequent, darker mucus colored discharge? Lovely, I know...
Yes, we were not planning this baby. My kids dad and I are not currently together and had a drunken night together near Christmas. He has said he doesn’t want this baby because he doesn’t think it’s his (it is but I’d dated other people when we broke up). He seems to be warming up though and talked to my belly the other night.

I am happy because i wanted another another one but wish it was a better circumstance. My mom is really upset and his family will be too. My grandma is the only one to tell me congratulations so far
• Not sure if this is too early, so I'm trying to gauge interest, but I was thinking of starting a thread for c section moms-both those who already had at least one, and for those who will need one for whatever medical or emotional reasons. Hoping to get some VBAC and general recovery info for everyone. It can wait for a couple months if that's more everyone's speed-just throwing out ideas.
Sounds good to me! This will be my 3rd c section so I’d definitely be able to calm some nerves for those who know they’re having one or just want to be prepared.
• @chelletn That was kinda my thought. I was a c section for the first one, but it wasn't necessary, and I'm so passionate about trying for a vbac, I don't want to be cut again unless it's medically necessary. That all being said, I have all the respect in the world for anyone who chooses or needs a c section too, it just isn't for me unless it's needed.
Can I ask the circumstances for a non necessary section? It’s unusual for doctors to preform one without a medica reason because of insurance reasons. If it’s too personal, tell me to butt out.
• @wkuandrea. I'm so sorry you are going through this limbo right now. I agree a transvag us and repeat betas are in order. GL ❤
• @codesoncodes I'm sorry your situation is not ideal right now. But Congratulations! :) Hopefully, family and baby's father will come around sooner than later... in the meantime, just trust and believe something miraculously good can come out of this baby's arrival, if you welcome it... (((Hugs)))

@yogapants247 The CDC actually encourages the flu shot for pregnant women. I just make sure you mention that you are pregnant when going for the shot. Also, it takes about 2 weeks for the shot to become effective, so you are still at risk at that time. If you get any symptoms of flu (cough, sore throat, runny nose + fever) or have been in close contact with someone who has a confirmed case of flu, call a doc right away. There is a drug called Tamiflu that they can give you help protect you or lessen the seriousness of the disease, but it's only useful if started within 48 hrs of symptom onset.

ETA: btw, happy birthday!!

I this the frequency of non-medically necessary C-sections varies based on where you live. Around here where I live they are more common. One of the OBs at my old office would schedule a C-section for a day that was convenient for his schedule for the first week following his patient’s due date. That way he always had things scheduled at the end and could make sure he was the one doing the surgery / delivery for his patients.
• @codesoncodes I'd be happy to relate some story, but waiting till I have a chance at the computer, want to get thoughts out clearly and be able to look over before posting, so I don't have to edit 1000 times.

Thanks lady! I think it’s starting to sink in for him and I know when he sees the baby and how much it (hopefully) looks like our others, he’ll fall in love.

I'm surprised he went right to scheduling sections and not inductions first.
