  • @frenchiekinplusone my doctor said do the TDAP between 28-32 weeks.  We're going this weekend to CVS to get it since they don't do it in office.

  • @beach_mama Boo I'm sorry you have to do the 3 hour test!

How often are you supposed to get the TDAP?  I had it when I was pregnant with my son (he's 3.5 now), so do I need to get it again or it stays good for that long?  I can't remember.
  • @sparklingdiamond I was wondering that too.  I thought they were good for 10 years but could be thinking of another shot.  DD who is 4 regularly comes to my appts and they tell me to get it so I assume its less than 10 based on that.  It seems like they just tell you to get it every pregnancy.

28 week appt Friday and going over latest u/s!
Also doing our 4D with parents and best friend on Sunday  <3<3

@frenchiekinplusone how was the childbirth class? We've been reading so much and watching as much as we can, but I know it's super different than actually taking a class. Issue is, our work schedules are so different and we work weekends so finding a time to schedule is proving SUPER difficult. Do you think you could have substituted the class for an online series or self research?
  • @sparklingdiamond from what I just looked up it appears you should have it every pregnancy, otherwise its the TD booster every 10 years.

  • @ekendall09 I thought it was every 10 years too, but wasn't sure since it included the whopping cough vaccine in it too....dang I guess I have to get it again.

@ftm_ohio @priestess619 I actually really loved the class and MH liked it as well. My hospital does different versions depending on what your goals are (like a specific class for those planning unmedicated, or hypnobirthing, etc) but ours was the Prepared Childbirth class that pretty much covered everything from the stages of labor, relaxation/breathing techniques, medical interventions, hospital-specific logistics, etc. It was 9-5 yesterday so definitely an undertaking schedule-wise, lol. But honestly I feel super mentally prepared for labor and birth now (as much as one can be) and I’m glad we did it. I’m sure YMMV though depending on the instructor, your hospital, etc. I would def recommend it. @priestess619 I’m not sure DH and I could have subbed videos and research for it.. I maybe could have but it would be hard to get him to read and watch all of the things. It was good to get it all done in a day and be able to ask questions in a room full of other couples with a qualified instructor.

@ekendall09 thanks! I’ll ask my OB on Thursday but didn’t even think about CVS. That’s probably the best option for us as well - DH pretty much never goes to see his PCP (boys, eye roll) so I’d be nagging him constantly to make an appt. I like to avoid that whenever possible :D

I believe I read somewhere that the tetanus part of TDAP is good for the 10 years but the whooping cough is really more like 5 years and that’s only to protect yourself personally and wouldn’t really help protect an infant (for general population). I think in pregnancy they have you get it again every time regardless of when you had it last and anyone who is going to be around the baby a lot (DH or a grandparent who’ll be staying over or something) should get it before the birth.

  • I just downed my "GlucoCrush" drink and am heading to my dreaded "trial by needles" appt.

    Wish me luck!
    Good luck!!!

  • @frenchiekinplusone yep. SO doesn't/hasn't been to doctor in years except urgent care for a couple things (lyme, strept etc).  His mother passed away as a teen and he has never made self care a priority since.  He didn't think he needed it since its been this long.....I told him TDAP was non-negotiable.

  • @ekendall09 mine was the same for the longest time. He now has several specialists he sees for health issues but hasn’t been to his actual PCP in a while.  He got his flu shot at CVS which was a win (though apparently it’s not very effective this year, fx for all of us) but agreed, the TDAP is non-negotiable. Seems to be less an issue of him blowing it off - more just getting him to make the appt and actually get there lol. Thank goodness for walk-in pharmacies!

  • So everyone who will be around the baby should likely get the TDAP repeated even if they had it around the time my son was born?  Or just me?  Especially since I will have a baby more likely to get sick this time, I don't want to take any risks!
  • I want to say the doctor's told me 3 years for the TDAP, but I am not 100%. I will have to remember to ask at my appointment on Wednesday. I also have my glucose test then too.
  • I just had my 26 week appt. my bp was a little elevated but not high yet. Because of my history of pre e they are keeping a close watch on me. I was asked not to travel at all from here on out. I'm also now going every 2 weeks to the ob. It seems soon but she said it is not. I took my gd test today and am hoping for good results!

  • @mcb2016 what was you bp if you don't mind me asking. Mine was also elevated from where it normally is but it's still well within the normal range. The potential for pre-e again freaks me out big time. Mine literally came out of no where - normal bp at all checkups, no protein in my urine at checkups, etc. I just started having random bouts of what i thought was horrific heartburn (HELLP syndrome) and that was it.

That was w dd1. I didn't have pre-e or HELLP w dd2 but for some reason i am more worried about it this pregnancy than last.

  • OB appt tomorrow morning. We will probably discuss everything my MFM went over with me on Friday.
  • With the TDAP, you get it every pregnancy because it goes to the baby and helps protect them, since they cant get it when born.

    Otherwise its every 10 years.
  • @beach_mama   My bp was 138/88. When I first went to the obyn this pregnancy my blood pressure was quite high. It lowered naturally during the second trimester but it creeping up higher than it has been. (I'm not sure if my first two visits were anxiety related bp or chronic high bp but my dr is treating it as chronic hypertension) I too am freaked out about having pre e again. I did a baseline 24 hr urine test early on in pregnancy so we'd have an idea what my normal protein amount is.

  • @sparklingdiamond I had my TDAP shot yesterday and Dr. said anyone who is around the baby should have one.  I am making DH get his and I assume most daycares require their staff to have them too?  I need to make sure mine will.  @sjn00 is right about every pregnancy.  I got mine yesterday and was told it generally is good for years, but regardless, every pregnant woman should get it each time.

That being said, I had my GTT yesterday, along with the TDAP shot.  Still waiting on my glucose results. I really don't want to do the 3 hour. Bump measured right on track at 27 weeks, which made me happy since I actually lost weight since my last appointment 4 weeks ago.  Guessing its due to the flu.

  • @scuba_chic is correct, you need a TDaP for every pregnancy.  It's not a vaccination for the mother, it's for the baby, which is why they make you wait so long to get it (if it was just for you, it wouldn't matter what the timing was).

Your baby will gain at least partial immunity from your vaccination, so don't get knotted up in counting years, just get it.

  • Past my glucose test today, everything else is looking fine as well.

Had my 30 week this morning - all is good and measuring on track.  I thought I felt baby move to head-down yesterday since I started to feel kicks in my upper belly and doc said I was right! Hopefully baby stays there :#

My OB does the TDAP at 32 weeks, so next appt I’ll get it. She strongly recommends having our parents and siblings get up to date on theirs (within past 5 years) and to make sure it’s not just the tetanus. We are going to enforce that with all immediate family and anyone who will be in contact with baby for an extended period, but I feel like it’s insane to ask every one of our friends to get it if they are just stopping by to visit for a half hour (thoughts?).

Other than that, I now have all of my appointments scheduled out until my due date - insanity!!

  • @peppersmith22 thanks! Yeah we will definitely be asking anyone with even a sniffle to stay away until they are well for sure. And no kissing of the baby, please  :# So glad your polyp issue doesn’t seem to be a concern for your doc and things look like they will be progressing as normal!

  • I had my 28 week appointment today. Baby boy's heart rate was 146. Took my 1 hour glucose test and will find out how I did in a few days. I didn't think the drink was that bad but I had pretty low expectations after hearing other mom's opinions. My blood pressure was 146/80 so she wants to see me again in a week to check it again and then talk about our options from there. I asked about the TDAP vaccine so they went ahead and gave it to me there in the office. They are also sending me to have a high risk ultrasound since baby boy likes to face my spine and has never let them get clear pictures of his heart. I know the doctors are just being cautious and I am going to try and not worry to much over the coming week.
  • I got the call today, ultrasound is scheduled for Monday at 4. Im amazed at how quickly they got me in.
  • @icalynn @sjn00 good luck with both of your ultrasounds!

Chatted with my doctor about my US. Baby's actually a week ahead so no more ultrasounds until 36 weeks ! Also talked to him about how I thought the LMP I gave him was wrong since I guestimated with being on the pill and everything. He's going by my initial growth scan due date (4/9)that i had done at my first office instead of that date now (4/19) which I'm happy with. I know, kind of late in the game , but glad I finally brought it up and was right in feeling that 4/9 was more on spot. I know the difference in dates isn't that big of deal except for testing the remaining of the pregnancy, but I'm ready to meet my LO !

He also joked about that being good because with the later date he was anticipating a large baby so it might be better :o .

    Edited for many typos

  • Ultra sound went well! Everything looks good measuring on track with 29 weeks, she is currently breach, but I know there is pleanty of time for her to flip still, but im also okay with a c-section to get her out if need be. She is 3.5lbs. Had her legs crossed on my bladder, her face turned toward my back and her hands on her face, so there were no pictures. She has the temperment of her sister already haha! They had me pee in a cup to check my kidney function (I only have one that works) and said there was no reason to come back unless my OB wanted to check on her growth again.
