Pregnant after IF

First Trimester Check-in - Week of January 8

Hey guys, since no one started a new week I thought I'd step up.

1. How far along are you? What is your EDD?

2. What pregnancy symptoms are you having?

3. When is your next appointment?

4. Anything else you'd like to share?

QOTW:  What kind of family leave does your employer offer? Are they mom-friendly (e.g. flex scheduling, lactation space)?

This is my last week in the first trimester :open_mouth:

    1. How far along are you? What is your EDD? 12 weeks 1 day. EDD is July 22

    2. What pregnancy symptoms are you having? Constipation is the only symptom I really get, but it's ruthless!

    3. When is your next appointment? Wednesday is my last RE appointment

    4. Anything else you'd like to share?

QOTW:  What kind of family leave does your employer offer? 6 weeks unpaid... since I am back as a part time contractor though, I am getting like 2 weeks :p should be fun after my csection.

I work entirely at home in my own time though, so it's not a huge deal. The office is small and has 0 ammenities for new moms. I guess we have a conference room and extra bathroom. The office is so small that it wouldn't have been a problem to get privacy. We haven't really run into a pumping mom.. I had quit with my first (on good terms. I wanted to spend time with her and my old job was too demanding, stress and time wise) so I never had any issues.
  • Wow ladies this thread was really reassuring to see that a lot of you don’t have a lot of symptoms either. Makes me feel so much better

  • 1. How far along are you? What is your EDD? 6w4d, August 30

    2. What pregnancy symptoms are you having? Diarrhea for basically two and a half weeks (since just before my BFP) which has only recently been accompanied by nausea. But if I’m not on the toilet I’m starving to death. I’ll take it over throwing up though!

    3. When is your next appointment? This Friday for an u/s. Should see a heartbeat (I’ll be 7w1d)

    4. Anything else you'd like to share?

QOTW:  What kind of family leave does your employer offer? Are they mom-friendly (e.g. flex scheduling, lactation space)? I am incredibly, incredibly lucky that I work for a university in New York State that is committed to work/life balance and has always met or exceeded federal and state guidelines where family leave is concerned. New York State's new 2016 family leave law timeline called for a phased rollout over four years, with the benefit level starting at 8 weeks at 50 percent pay in 2018, and reaching 12 weeks at 67 percent pay in 2021. The university where I work has decided to start at the year-four level beginning this month, so I’m entitled to 12 weeks at 67% pay which I know makes me extraordinarily blessed. They also have 39 lactation rooms across campus and even have a series of 7 after-work “Preparing for Baby” programs for new parents that touch on topics like the benefits we’re entitled to, health and nutrition, breastfeeding, addressing postpartum relationship changes and what to expect in the immediate postpartum. Considering I used to work for county government and would get written up if I had more than two instances of sick leave in one year, I am literally in heaven here. :)

  • @gfgrump wow what a great number!! Also I feel you about not caring about timing anymore! Ideally I wanted to take off the end of the school year and summer but oh well! The beginning of the school year stinks. It’s so much harder to come back if you don’t start the school year with the kids! Worth it though right?

  • lablover78  I know - minimal symptoms is nerve-wracking because when you go through IF you're always anxious about the next day, next step....
gfgrump  I chose to continue doing the injections because we had a routine going, and it was easier to do one injection in the morning than deal with 3 daily suppositories, the mess, and it just sorta grossed me out.  Plus I got the injections down to a science where they really don't bother me at all.

  • Howdy everybody!

@lablover78 I agree completely, this is a very nice group of ladies and I am very thankful!  tbh, I have steered clear of some other boards on the bump until now because it was just adding stress rather than helping.  But wow this group is really the right fit for me.  We are all in the same mindset and everyone is very nice and accepting.

@sarcasticowl thank you for starting this week, it is appreciated. : )  @lablover78 and @hoff079 I am also self employed (landscape designer) and I understand!  In some ways it is liberating because you make the rules, but then again if you aren't working then your business just falls off.

@Crystal321 congratulations on the end of the first trimester- so happy for you! I'm the same in that I work from home.

@mac627 I hear you on the budgeting girl!  I've been working on a baby budget spreadsheet for a couple years now,, tbh.  It is one of the things I feel in control of and like to tinker with. (how's that for nerdy!)

@gfgrump congratulations on the second beta that is a huge number!  I know it is hard to get too excited, but I hope you enjoy the good news!

    1. How far along are you? What is your EDD?  Well, so I finally got more info on this, I was pretty confused, I know that sounds stupid.  So they count the weeks from the day of my ovulation trigger shot then add 2 weeks.  So my trigger shot was Dec 13th which was 3 weeks and 6 days ago + 2 weeks = 5 weeks, 6 days.  I am very excited to hit 6 weeks tomorrow!  So I will be 7 weeks and 2 days next Friday 1/19 when go for first ultrasound.  I obsess about counting the days and looking at the risk of mc percentages go down every day.  I love that chart and goes along very well with my realistic mindset.

    2. What pregnancy symptoms are you having?  sore boobs, dug out a bag of pregnancy/nursing bras I had thrown in the closet after didn't work out last time.  I am so happy to have those as just the small pads and more room help.  It's weird because I wouldn't say I'm naseaus, it is more like dizzy all the time. To the point where I feel like I might fall over.  Very clumsy and also foggy brain.  I also went off zoloft last week as well (it is going just fine) but I keep wondering if it is pregnancy or the lack of zoloft.  I had these symptoms also though before going off so leads me to believe it is the former.  My stomach hasn't been too bad, just a bit of diarrhea and gas, but I am very hungry this week.  Doing my best to keep calories on track and got a bunch of good stuff at whole foods yesterday.  I have had the worst bloating though!  I've gained 4-6 lbs of water weight alone last week!  My nutritionist has me drinking electrolyte water and I also had lemon with my tea last night and woke up a pound lighter today.  So I am keeping that up!  Finally, they put me on insulin last week as my blood sugar has been rising pretty fast.  They told me to increase 5 units every 2 days, but that wasn't doing the trick at all and stressing me out.  So I just went up 10 units and I told them that is what I am doing and I finally had 99 fasting glucose (down from 135 yesterday) this morning.  I told them I'm going to keep doing jumps of 5 units daily until I get to the under 90 initial goal, then can go up more slowly from there.  I'm getting so sick of all these doctors!  It is so obvious when they just give you the stock response and don't pay attention to your individual needs!  I'm like already stressed, why do I have to argue with them now....ugh.  Going to probably ask my myfitnesspal friends about this as well. I have found some good ladies on there with glucose and pcos issues.

    3. When is your next appointment? Jan 19th- long way away- it is like a second TWW and just as excrutiating!

    4. Anything else you'd like to share? I think I've shared enough...hahah....I did want to tell everyone I am feeling fine after going off the remainder of my zoloft last week.  Might be having side affects, but depression and anxiety aren't changed.  Breathing techniques are working great, going to therapist again this week, and I am making it a priority to stay calm!  I have this one client that I told my collegues I won't be able to work with anymore yesterday. He can take a hike as staying pregnant the next 2 weeks is my highest priority above all else!

Oh one other thing- I'm still struggling with what to tell people.  I need some good lines to respond when people ask questions.  I randomly told my accountant I'm pregnant yesterday on the phone!  (: l  I don't know what came over me, I only speak with her a couple times a year and I just really wanted to report the good news.  It was so random and I did not feel good about it afterwards. She is just one of those people who has a way of making me feel put down and fishes for info.  I think she is trying to connect and be friends, but just makes me feel bad.  So for some reason I felt like I wanted to shove it in her face and say- well I'm pregnant again so don't feel sorry for me!  Anyway, it will be fine as she doesn't even know anyone I do and won't tell anyone.  She is very good with discression.  Anyway, I also have brunch plans with a good friend and a very old friend on Saturday.  I think I am going to facebook message the good friend and explain that I prefer not to discuss with the very old friend ahead of time.  That way she won't press the issue and will help me avoid and be vague.  Clearly I need a game plan going into this so I don't blurt it out again!  I've been so careful only to tell a handful of family and very close friends (literally 5).  And now its kind of funny because only those very important people to me know + plus my random accountant! haha so random!

QOTW:  What kind of family leave does your employer offer? Are they mom-friendly (e.g. flex scheduling, lactation space)?  I am self employed and my work is seasonal.  Luckily this pregnancy works great with the schedule because fall and winter are my slow months.  So I will most likely be able to take off Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec and Jan once baby comes.  Then it will be a quick transition back into spring starting around mid Feb next year which is a very busy time for a landscape designer.  Last time I was very worried because I would have had baby right in middle of spring! I would have had to let a lot of clients down, or keep working.  Hope this goes through because this is perfect timing this time around!

    **sorry for any typos!**
  • TW scan  not what we hoped for. RE is very concerned will not develop as it should.  Currently yolk sac is too big for gestational sac. Follow up ultrasound next week.

  • @hottietoddy HELL to the YES about getting stock answers from the doctors. I am SO tempted to just leave my RE and go to my regular OB/GYN for some actual personal attention because the last two sets of bloodwork I got from my RE was sent to my patient portal with zero comment. Not, hey, we noticed your estrogen dropped from the week before, nothing. They're not even updating the patient portal with the bloodwork I had done locally (I don't always drive the hour or so to their office if I only need blood drawn, I have it done locally). Totally over it. Considering my insurance is paying them an arm and a leg and all I ever see is nurses (no offense to nurses), I feel like someone should actually be looking out for me.
  • I find landscape design so cool! My yard is embarrassing right now - definitely one of our next projects.

  • @lablover78 I'm not. Any you recommend?

Also, get this you guys: I called my regular OB/GYN today to see when I could get in. I live in a fairly small area that has basically one large practice and one smaller one where the doctor has a reputation for being a douchebag. I love my doctor and have missed him while going to the RE. Long story short, they're booking out right now at the END OF FEBRUARY. There are literally days on end when no babies at all are born at our local hospital and they're booking out almost 2 months for OB appointments??

I almost started crying on the phone. She was like "well we usually tell people to call us when they first find out they're pregnant." Well how am I supposed to know that? I've been going to my RE, who said exactly nothing about when I should reach out to my regular doctor. So she squeezed me in for the u/s with the NT test on February 13, a few days before my 12th week. I realize this is smack in the middle of when people get their NT tests but I had really been hoping for some of the earlier blood work screens at 10 weeks. I feel so freaking defeated right now. Like, I'm just a number at the RE to the point where I decided to call my OB/GYN to set something up because I'm totally over them, and then they're telling me I screwed up. Awesome.
  • @sarcasticowl -man pardon my French but that is bulls*#t.  I don't understand where they get off not having enough staff to cover their clients especially in a small town where they are the only option.  My last ob was awful to the point of negligence so I understand.  I still think if she had given me Progesterone like I needed I wouldn't have had mmc.  But things work out how they are supposed to.  You aren't the only one, my nutritionist is now telling me how to manage my insulin because my Endo is a jerk, so guess we just have to learn how to manage the bulls*#t and be creative.  My Nutritionist had a great analogy and said what I am going through 'is like planning a wedding'.  It's so true haha, I have 6 doctors! Try not to get too deflated, it sounds like they are doing an okay job. And be pushy, call them and ask lots of questions.  Squeeky wheel gets the grease!

@lablover78 yeah landscape design is fun, but like anything else clients can be intense! Spring is on the horizon too so all the crazies come out and want everything yesterday!  It is exciting when it warms up and lots of work and projects, but also exhausting.  Haha

@bpietronicco not sure if I'm seeing this right but I see your message in a grey drop down labeled 'spoiler'.  Sorry I'm not as savy with this app and don't know if others can see as well and I would think they would have responded.  Anyway, just wanted to say sorry to hear you didn't get the news you wanted at your appointment.  I sure know that feeling, but at the very least it sounds like you have a good doctor that can see what is going on and knows what may or may not be an issue.  I hope that there is still a chance it will work out, but we are here for you either way and most of us know how you feel.  I don't know your back story on how long you've been trying, so don't want to say 'well you can always try again'. Plus I hate when people say that anyway.  Try and take care of yourself and your physical and mental well being in the meantime. That is always the hardest for me and you are worth it.
  • @bpietronicco I’m so sorry- hugs!! While I have no idea what that means- I do know doctors are wrong all the time so hoping this is one of those situations. Please continue to update us as we are all here for you!

@sarcasticowl you want to stick with any of the refrigerated probiotics that are unfortunately expensive so I just grab whichever is on sale because they are typically all high quality if chilled.

  • @bpietronicco oh no! I’m so sorry that things aren’t looking good. That is so disappointing. I hope it’s not what it seems and that everything is ok on your u/s next week. Hugs!!

@BusinessWife I know what you mean about not fitting in with the moms-to-be on other boards. I feel the same way. IF really messes with you! I was so cautiously excited in the beginning that I was barely able to enjoy it. I’m starting to get more excited now!

@hottietoddy that sucks having to deal with so many different doctors!! At least you know you’re doing everything you can to get the best care and you’re your best advocate!

@sarcasticowl ugh that sucks!! My RE didn’t tell me anything about when to contact the OB either. Luckily I made appointments with them when I found out and figured I could cancel them if I was going to my RE still. I won’t be able to do my NT scan till later either because they won’t even let me schedule it until I see them and I can’t see them till I stop seeing my RE! So annoying.

@BusinessWife I didn't start feeling pregnant until about 20 weeks :) For sure I was bloated, and nauseous and had all the symptoms (pregnancy rhinitis anyone?? totally a thing) but I didn't feel like there was a tiny human growing in me, if you  know what I mean. Once it starts getting hard to bend over, and you can start to feel those tiny baby kicks, it will get more real :)

I totally know how you feel about not fitting in. I joined my BMB, but it was so hard to hear about oops babies, and 3rd or 4th pregnancies, plus the women weren't nearly as friendly as the IF ladies. Thankfully, there's the PaIF board!! We all know how hard it is to feel hopeful after such a hard journey... hang in there! Once you start seeing your little one's features on the ultrasound (instead of that tiny little blob with a heartbeat) and start feeling movement, you will start feeling more like the mama you are :)  It's gets better and better every week!
Is baby sesame seed or lentil size yet? ;)

  • @bpietronicco I'm so sorry - I too missed your news and I am so sad for you. I hope you get better news next week. I'm sure the wait is excruciating :(
  • @bpietronicco I am so very sorry :( I know there is nothing we can say to make things better, but I want to send my best to you

@BusinessWife I didn't start participating in my BMB last full term pregnancy until I was well into the second semester for the same reasons. Just stay here if it's more comfortable! As mentioned before, when you start looking and feeling pregnant and feeling baby, it all becomes much more real

@sarcasticowl sorry your RE office is being a pain. I remember way back in September you were having issues then too. I would hope it gets better, but unfortunately it sounds like they are set in their ways. Praying you get in with your OB after the time at the RE is up

  • I had an ultrasound at 7+1 and not scheduled to see my OB until 11+1.  Does anyone get a 9 week us?  I'm considering asking my office for one because it seems like so much time in between.  I know the appts will decrease once I start seeing my OB but I'm so nervous all the time right now I just felt like it wouldn't hurt to ask for a 2nd scan.  Am I being silly?

  • laurad75  I had one at 7 weeks, then one at 9 weeks when my RE transitioned me to my OB as they needed to check in on what's going on.  I'm anxiously awaiting my 12 week u/s next week as, like many, I don't feel like I have a baby growing inside of me (I heard first pregnancy a lot of people don't have symptoms and don't show until they're further along).
The 11 week baby check-in said my uterus should be the size of a grapefruit but I haven't gained 1 pound since being pregnant.  I was getting nervous and almost scheduled an 11 week u/s then I did some googling and found some information that u/s may be bad for the baby....sigh.  Why is this so hard?!

  • @bpietronicco I'm so sorry. I've been there several times before. Just try to breathe and take it one day at a time.
  • 1. How far along are you? What is your EDD?  7 Weeks 1 day. EDD is Aug 28. however with twins doubtful I'll get there. I'm shooting for 37 weeks so early August.

    2. What pregnancy symptoms are you having? Sore huge boobs, so tired. Had my first Morning Sickness at around Noon today so that's exciting. However immediately afterwards, I had a smidge of spotting but I think its from my cervix and Crinone.

    3. When is your next appointment?  Tomorrow. I get weekly ultrasounds with my MFM!

    4. Anything else you'd like to share? Sorry I've been MIA. I've been so tired and was having mass issues with the webpage and app.

QOTW:  What kind of family leave does your employer offer? Are they mom-friendly (e.g. flex scheduling, lactation space)?

None. Just 12 weeks FMLA. I get STD for 8 weeks for a c section. Due to the high cost of daycare for twins ($3600 a month) I'll likely be staying home anyway.

  • @laurad75 I get weekly ultrasounds with my RE which I love! My last one is Friday and then I switch to the OB where I know it’ll be a LOT less frequent. Can’t hurt to request it while you can!

  • We had weekly US starting week 5 or 6 while with my RE. I start up with my OB now (12 weeks) and I think they do one scan around 12 weeks, one at 18-20, and if I remember correctly there is another around 30 weeks
