TTC After a Loss

Newbie... in a TWW... w/ a question!

My history is lengthy with a successful outcome...eh,  outcomes (4 girls!!!!) including adoption, endo/infertility 11 years, iui's, ivf and surprise miracle conception with DD #4 but it wasn't until we tried for our last baby that I experienced my first miscarriage. What a completely different kind of loss yea? My heart goes out to all of you who have ever endured it.

Finding thanks in the middle of the heartache....well, it did not require a d&c, bleeding only lasted a week and I got to see the awesome 'pregnant' on my test!

I was told by ob nurse to wait one cycle, so after next period we'd be ok to try again. In the same week my 8 week u/S showed nothing left and hcg down to 17, I see EWCM and couldn't resist not trying again. Now, I'll finally get to the question! I've read the main reason they want you to wait is for dating purposes. Has anyone gotten pregnant before their next period? So far, all and any signs/symptoms are textbook timing ie implantation cramping etc. I'm mainly just concerned we didn't do something scary/selfish.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts or words of encouragement. Here's to lots of BFP'S in 2018!

  • No, but I’m trying!  Doctor has us waiting one cycle as well, and like you, the only reason given was for dating.  Still WTO so I don’t have a personal success story, but I do know people who have gotten pregnant after loss with no period in between.   I’m not sure how active the PGAL board is but you could try asking over there as well.

  • rowedking6 The 'wait' period can have many reasons actually. Dating is one. Uterine lining is another. Depending on your personal history and situation it can also be to make sure it wasn't a molar PG, or that you're healed physically, or for you to recover emotionally, or a zillion other things. I've always waited at least a cycle. Honestly, I understand the desire to get PG again right away, but sitting out one cycle is not such a big deal in the long run. It's better to play it safe than to be overeager and sorry later. I've seen someone on this board be overeager before and got PG before they were recommended to after MC, and that ended up in nothing more than a sketchy PG from the beginning that ended up in a later MC that could've been prevented if they'd just waited. She ended up benched for months afterwards before she could try again.

  • My OB recommended waiting for 2 AFs before trying again, but he said that if we got pregnant before then he wouldn't be worried at all. I've heard that a lot of people do get pregnant again right after a loss and have successful pregnancies. Sorry I can't give you personal experience, but most of us here are still trying to get pregnant after our losses so we might not be super helpful for this particular question.
  • My first loss was a MMC and required a D&C. My OB recommended waiting at least one cycle before trying again (which I did).

I did not need a D&C for this last one. The OB recommended waiting one cycle but literally said "really it's just for dating purposes" so we're just doing our thing. I'm not temping or using OPKs. If it happens great and if not then I'll start OPK's next month. I'm still WTO though.
  • Thank you all for your time, I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong spot with my question but as many years as we tried in the beginning. ...ttc was all I knew. Best wishes and baby dust to you all! ♡♡
  • I was just checking in...hope you're doing well.

AF arrived this morning so I think I'll also try opk's going forward.
  • AF arrived this morning....here's to lots of rainbows in 2018
