UO Thursday 1/4

Re: UO Thursday 1/4

  • I love chips on sandwiches. Been doing it as long as I could remember, def not a pg thing.

@doxiemoxie212 that's one of the reason I never buy clothes as shower gifts, they get so many, you'll see the clothes maybe once. Clothes are a much better when children are 18 months & up they get worn so much longer than the infant stage.

Also never under estimate a good diaper & wipe shower if you don't want a shower bc of stupid gifts you won't use. Unless you are doing cloth (and even they use wipes and some diapers) you'll need diapers and wipes and simply have someone write down what store the purchase came from bc you can almost always exchange diapers for other sizes and brands. Our co-ed shower here will be a diaper & wipe outdoor crawfish boil. I'll have a smaller shower for my few female friends and family members for the cutesy stuff.

  • 1. I rarely shave in the winter and even in the summer I can get away without shaving because you have to look close to see any hairs (the plus side of fine blonde hair) the minus is scrawny eyebrows I can't shape.

    2. We will never get an Amazon Dot/Echo etc. because big brother/data collection/they are always listening and collecting data but I'm convinced so are our cell phones and smart TVs.

    3. I don't like attending showers because it's always a mix of people who don't know each other and the games are always lame. But I think they should be thrown and I like the ritual of celebrating a new mom and being generous. I think sprinkles can be fun and tasteful (more fun actually because they tend to be a smaller closer group of friends.)
  • I hate shaving my legs. They were getting pretty hairy so I decided I would shave them today, ended up shaving one leg and was like screw it I don't feel like doing the other. So now I have one hairy and one shaved leg lol.

My UO is I think some people are way too strict with their kid's schedule. I think it's a bit much if you have to plan your whole day around your child's nap time. I always just let my daughter nap when she's tired and eat when she's hungry and it's worked out really well for us. BUT, all kids are different so I'm sure a schedule works better for some.
  • @lrichhx05 My daughter was really flexible with naps but my son needs a schedule. He must go down sometime between 12-1 or he’s an utter disaster. It’s annoying to have to plan around but it’s way more annoying to deal with a screaming toddler who’s overtired.

I have to shave my legs every other day or it’s very obvious and itchy. I also shave my arms because I was super self-conscious of the volume of arm hair I had in high school and started shaving them.

@llamamama14 I agree that our cellphones and smart TVs collect info too.

  • @llamamama14 Oh yeah, our cellphones are probably the worst. We joke that my H's phone knows him better than I do (he has sold his soul to Google in all forms).

lol @ your mismatched legs @lrichhx05. I gotta say, I was really hoping to be somewhat flexible about my son's schedule...but it turns out he's a total sh*thead if we're not religious about his sleep schedule. I haven't really minded because he's an incredible sleeper as long as he's in his routine, but I do hope this babe might be a little more easygoing in that department. I can't imagine how that works with two!

  • @becca_123 I can't say a thing cause i used to eat onion sandwiches. Mayo, onion, salt and pepper. My great aunt started me on them. I haven't had them since I wasn't little cause, well, smelly lol.

  • @dinodna3 @MoonOverGoldsboro @lrichhx05 I totally didn’t want to be that strict mom but by tracking her sleep patterns at only a few months old I realized the days she napped best, she went to bed easier/slept longer throughout the night. So I instituted certain naptimes and stuck with it. Obviously now at 2.5 if we have something going on during the day she’s fine without it, but bedtime is still a little hairier on the no nap days.

DH and I watched Snowden last night (yeah they made a movie about that).  It was eye opening as I didn't realize the extent of all of the creepy, creepy things the government was doing/using/listening to its normal citizens and others.  So, if you want to be extremely creeped out and paranoid of your phone/computer/drone/basically all devices watch that movie. It was pretty good.

  • @dinodna3 @MoonOverGoldsboro @lisa2589 yeah I may be eating my words if baby #2 isn't as easy going as #1 lol a schedule is better than a cranky kid
  • I hate shaving. I always get razor burn. But... my leg hair is dark and grows fast. That being said, what's everyone's plan for shaving as our bumps grow? I don't care much until it gets warm out and I wear a dress or a skirt.

I'm interested in trying this chip-sandwich deal...
  • @bearmoons I sit down the shower to shave and I usually only shave from just above the knee down so I feel like I’ll be able to continue that for while. Especially considering my mini bump.

  • @bearmoons my last pregnancy my husband shaved my legs for me towards the end. I was able to shave everything above the knee, although I couldn't really see what I was doing..but he did below the knee. My daughter was a July baby so I had to keep up with shaving and it was a pain.
  • @ PatientlyWaiting10 I agree!  And when I wait too long to shave, my legs aren’t smooth and look rashy for some reason.

sunshineandwhiskey Having a shower gives me so much anxiety!  I did it for the wedding and baby #1 and now I'm done.  Between feeling the need to appease both sides of the family and my weird unjustified fear that the shower won’t have a good turn out, I cannot deal!  It's too bad because I wouldn't mind the gifts lol.
  • @catlady1215 not going to lie, that sandwich sounds tasty! May have to give it a try.
  • I used to make my mom fill pita pockets with mayo (only mayo) for my school lunches.
  • @doxiemoxie212 I just told DH about the onion sandwich and he was like well I've had a straight mayo/bread sandwich! Go figure!
  • @stephcat421 I effing loved mayo as a kid. Are spoonfuls of the stuff, but only ever organic brands my mom bought. I had Kraft or something once at a friends and was like wtf is this isht lol.
  • I loved mayo sandwiches.
Two slices of wonder bread, smothered in mayo and maybe a hint of pepper... best sandwiches ever!

I also distinctly remember my wonder bread tasting like bubblegum at one point, so maybe I just had a really bad sense of taste as a child.

  • Potato chips on a  pimento cheese sandwich is where it's at.

I told my husband that I would shave when my legs get hairier than his. I may have lied.
  • @bearmoons In my experience shaving near the end is a pain but doable.
  • @LaceyBee522 YES!!! Essentially cinnamon toast, minus the cinnamon, untoasted. Delish!
  • I guess these are UO, I don't like mayo. I only started having it within the last year. I'll have it in chicken salad but only when I make it and just a little bit of mayo. Never on a sandwich.

I never made weird sandwiches as a kid. Unless you could peanut butter and honey but I feel like that's not that weird.

  • I don't know if this is an UO, but I'm guessing it is. I like Miracle Whip - especially on grilled cheese sandwiches.

And, @kfren yes!! Also, I still love cinnamon sugar toast in the morning.

  • @krashke I have similar feelings about mayonnaise. It kind of grosses me out. I can also eat a tiny bit in a tuna salad, etc but it can't be gloppy. Would never put it on a sandwich. And never ever ever miracle whip.  Also funny about what ketchup is acceptable on. I guess I am a high maintenance condiments consumer.  :D Mustard on the other hand...give me alllllll the mustard.

My best friend and I as kids used to make butter and cheese Dorito sandwiches.
  • @amys614 SAME! I don't like most condiments, mayo, ranch, ketchup only on certain things but I LOVE mustard!

  • @LaceyBee522 Me!!  I had butter sandwiches.  Nothing else on them either, literally just bread and butter  :p
  • MMM butter on saltine crackers.  That is yummy.
  • I used to make "sandwiches" with graham crackers and butter and then dip them in milk. I have loved reading all these weird creations! I definitely associate freaky food combinations with the Midwest.

amys614 Thanks for the heads up to go creep August!

  • @krashke I have the same feelings about mayo.

was putting chips on a sandwich not as popular as I thought? A turkey sammy with Doritos is amazing.

Mmm, all this talk of mayo sandwiches makes me think of the cheese, lettuce and mayo sandwiches we used to make. 1 slice of white American cheese, a couple iceberg lettuce leaves, and white bread smothered in mayo.

Possible UO 1: mayo all the way, but no no NO to miracle whip. I always thought they were the same thing (I'd never had miracle whip) until I ran out of mayo and drove 5 min to the closest gas station to see if they had any. They didn't have mayo, but they had miracle whip, which I took home with me. And threw out the next day. Gross.

Possible UO 2: they love dipping fries in mayo here, and it's amazing. The mayo is a bit thicker/fattier than most American mayos. They also like dipping fries in a combo of mayo + peanut sauce, and sometimes raw onion on top. It looks and sounds disgusting, but it's amazing too. It's called "patatje oorlog" (war fries). https://streetcuisine.blogspot.nl/2011/01/patat-oorlog-dutch-street-fusion.html

ETA: @LaceyBee522 I just saw your UO about loving miracle whip. I think a lot of people are probably right there with you but :-0
  • +1 on hating miracle whip.  Yuck.  I do like mayo.  I think mayo in the rest of the world is somewhat different (correct me if wrong). I remember the mayo in Japan was much thicker and richer.

  • @LaceyBee522 your post about miracle whip made me gag. I HATE miracle whip. I will only eat Hellman’s mayo.
  • Chips on sandwiches is life. Especially Doritos mmmm. This just makes me sad that we can't eat cold lunch meat.
