Fit Mom Friday 12/29

I'm a day late but are any other moms feeling frustrated that they feel so crappy? I've been doing my best to at least do something active each day but only succeeded twice this week. Today I did a yoga with Adrienne video and it just made me feel dizzy. I'm hoping so much that with the second trimester this will pass and I'll get back to my usual jogging and working out.

Re: Fit Mom Friday 12/29

  • Yup. I am losing muscle tone already and I'm so frustrated by it. Sigh.

  • I’ve been super lazy over the holidays, but I plan to get back to it January 1st all cliche like.

  • I've been horrible but I've now been sick for 3 weeks straight. Every time I try to go to the gym my cough gets worse, so I guess I'm out for a while until the cough is actually gone. So naturally, I ate fast food twice today because I might as well just go all out.
  • I did a workout Wednesday and then yesterday with a walk with the dog. I tried to do one of the bodypump releases I need to learn in a few weeks and it was so depressing how tired I was and what little weights I’ve had to go down to in a matter of a month. I know my participants will understand once they know and hopefully when my energy increases, so does my endurance, but man! I couldn’t barely do a real push up.

My main thing is I cannot lose my arm muscle tone. It’s my best feature fitness wise!
  • It has been really hit or miss for me. I got dizzy twice this week playing ping pong, and had to stop, but then the whole family played wallyball, and I was fine. I've also skied twice without feeling sick. Sometimes the spins and nausea just hits out of no where and I have to stop whatever I'm doing. I'll be back to skating after I get home this weekend, and I'm really hoping that I can keep that up throughout at least my first two trimesters.

  • I did yoga twice this week. But yeah. I haven’t felt like doing much either besides being a total slug.
  • @missybutler94 I love ywa videos! I definitely haven’t felt like working out at all with the nausea. But she has a new 30 day yoga starting New Years and I plan to at least try to do that!!

  • The single-digit temps are cramping my style, ladies! I’m going to force myself to go out anyway. Exercise actually helps my morning sickness and headaches.

  • I’ve been forcing myself to get to Zumba 3 times a week, it’s hard to get the gym but once I’m moving it feels great !
  • I definitely hear ya! Morning sickness and complete exhaustion has officially hit. I’m hoping now that the holidays are over I will feel better when not eating 5lbs of Turkey and apple pie a day.  It’s funny that the all day nausea and exhaustion hit the week of Christmas while eating terrible and not exercising. Will be interesting to see if I feel any better this week when my routine gets back to normal!
  • We bought a treadmill with some money we got for a Christmas and put it together today! I got in a 40 minute walk and it felt Great! I’ve been slacking the past few months with my workouts, and before my BFP I told myself I was going to get back to it. I wasn’t active my last pregnancy and I plan on doing things different this time around. So FX I can keep it going, and I’m hoping it helps the horrible back pain I had last time, too!

  • @mac627 I didn't know she was starting a new one! That's awesome! I was using an older 30 day challenge by her! I'll have to start that one on days that I'm feeling up to it. Sadly my nausea seems to be getting worse :(
  • I've been keeping up with work outs 3-4 times a week. I did the same last pregnancy and I felt great. I don't get morning sickness so I think that makes it easier, however this exhaustion is kicking my ass this time around. I subscribe to beachbody on demand and doing some p90x3 and 21 day fix. Once I get further along, I do pregnancy yoga and Autumn has maternity workouts for each trimester. I did those last time and loved them. Not too tough but feels like you're getting a good workout in 30-35 minutes.

    Hello from Detroit!

  • Ahhh thank you for sharing about the new challenge! I’m so excited for yoga with Adrienne. My goal is to atleast get myself moving each day. I’ve been so tired and really slacking!
  • YWA True Day 1 is in the books! Best way to start the day.

  • It’s definitely been rough! I’m hoping to get back on track with workouts this week.

something that’s been majorly helping me with MS is a few sips of milk or juice before bed and a protein shake first thing in the morning.

Now I just need something to get my energy up, lol.
  • I got my new Fitbit for Christmas (#3 for me since I killed my other ones), so I am really going to try to get back into the swing of the gym. I did weight lifting for the duration of my last pregnancy but unfortunately the class times don't work with schedule now since I have my DS to watch. I didn't do too much cardio last time but my plan is to up my cardio game (safely) for this pregnancy. FX for making it to the gym tonight!
  • Same here! Super frustrating because I was very dedicated to fitness last year and was smashing gym goals. Now I feel like 1 pull up is so heavy! I was doing seats of 5.. The exhaustion is real! I guess I just wast really prepared for that. I think my new goal might be going to the gym and setting a timer for 30 min and at least try to stay moving.
  • I’m really encouraged that my OB nurse gave me few restrictions on exercising. Just to not get my HR up too high and take a break every 30 minutes for 10 minutes. She said I’ll know when I need to stop laying on my back. So I’m going to try to keep up my fitness level as long as I can! I know I’ll have to modify some things, but I’ll do what I can for as long as I can. Then in 3rd Tri I’ll probaby switch to yoga.

You will definitely know when you can't lay on your back anymore. Your legs go numb. Usually your body just instinctively rolls over. Lol.

I knew when to stop laying on my back when I felt like couldn't breathe and it felt like the bump was suffocating me!
  • ^^^ This is good to know because I actually was wondering this in Yoga today!
  • @lakesideknitter ahh! Good for you! I had every intention of doing it but felt pretty terrible today when I got home. I’m going to be a day behind!

I’ve been wondering the same thing about being able to lie on my back. I know it’s early but I’m just so nervous all the time. Doing ab workouts worries me too but I hate ab workouts so maybe that’s just my subconscious coming up with excuses ha.

I’m a STM, so I definitely knew when I couldn’t sleep on my back, but laying on my back for a short time for exercises isn’t the same, and I wasn’t exercising at this level in my last pregnancy.

  • I just found out that my area finally has an Orange Theory!! Has anyone here done OTF while pregnant? I REALLY want to try it, but am feeling a bit anxious to have my inaugural visit be when I'm pregnant.  Thoughts?

Ah. That makes sense lol. I thought you were a STM.
  • For those of you who have the Beachbody on Demand, have you done the workout for Diastis Recti while pregnant? My friend had a baby over the summer and her abs separated a lot, so I'd like to prevent that at much as possible. I just saw Autumn has a 10 minute Diasitis Recti video but I haven't watched it yet.

No, but we're getting one too so if you go, I would be curious! I was thinking that could be my post-baby jump back in!
  • @scottishlass1213 I think I will probably wait until post-baby too.  A friend was just telling me that she wouldn't recommend while pregnant, as it's essentially a 60 minute HIIT workout. Normally I'd be all about this, but I'm not sure about while pregnant.
  • Over the break, I because a complete slug and with this major cold snap here, it's impossible to get motivated. Add the exhaustion and the nausea and I feel terrible. YUCK. Only a few weeks until second tri... maybe I'll get more motivated once I make that turn?!?  HALP!

I have a handful of coworkers that swear by it, but they said they wouldn’t recommend when pregnant because it is such high intensity. I’m always intrigued by the workouts they talk about though!

  • Thanks for all the info on Yoga with Adrienne! I’ve never been very good at yoga, so I tend to shy away from most workouts and classes. I think that it’ll really help with the back pain and other ailments I had last pregnancy though, so I’m going to give it a whirl and see how it goes!

I watched it, but I’m pretty sure it’s more for if you have it than preventing it. I don’t think there is much you can do to prevent it, but I could be wrong.

  • Chiming in - my doctor said to not let my heart rate get up above 150 while exercising. Don’t know if that’s universal but thought it’d be interesting to share!

  • @hardlyhannah My doctor said the heart rate thing is bunk.  If you regularly exercise, you should be able to continue doing what you normally do.  I think the general rule of thumb is that you if you feel fine and can have a conversation during the workout, you are fine.  Obviously I'm no doctor, but I let the heart rate thing really scare me out of working out during my first pregnancy, and I wish I hadn't done that.
  • ^^^ I asked about hot vinyasa flow. My studio heats the room to 95. My doctor was basically like you know your body. Listen to it and don’t be dumb. I haven’t been to a hot class since like week 5 though, because when I hit 6 weeks I started feeling like total crap. Hoping to get back to it when I start feeling better.

Same, I was so scared of going over 140 in my first pregnancy. Now I've given myself a "slow down" period when I hit 160. It seems to happen so quickly! I did a really intense HIIT workout right before my BFP and my HR was like 200. It was insane and the calorie burn was crazy. But I won't do that again for a long while. Hahaha.

When I don’t feel like thinking of my own workout I use the Nike Training Club app. It’s free and has a ton of workouts on it with videos etc.
