Re: TTTC Checkin: 12/27/2017

  • @goldenkeys first of all a big thank you for your efforts keeping this board and the list running. I know you have your own journey too. I for one each week see the grad list for the year as an inspiration.

AFM, as posted earlier on the checking from last week, currently WFAF on CD28 and then starting stims for IVF#3 on CD3.
Last 6 weeks were tough after IVF#2 failed and then having to wait out a cycle for #3 due to the holidays.
We did squeeze in an HSG which was clear so hoping if we get an embryo to transfer we have some HSG magic.

We’re also researching other clinics in US, UK and Spain at the moment n case #3 doesn’t work out. Any recommendations for DOR with OE please let me know - also by pm if you want.

Goals for new year: The obvious family goal, but otherwise landscaping our garden and terrace and finishing my EMBA successfully would be the main ones.

@GoldenKeys Another thank you for your efforts in keeping up with the list!

@emmasemm I’m glad to hear AF didn’t come earlier before you made it back home!  I wish I had better words of support & encouragement for you. We are all here for you, friend  <3  FX for that HSG magic!

MH & I are ready to hit the ground running with IUI w/ injectables next cycle. I believe today was O, so it should only be about 10-12 more days! I don’t know if it’s being on her & knowing what to ask the RE, or if they don’t generally offer up any extra information. For example, the coordinator emailed me today and told me to let her know CD1. Um, when do I get my meds?  Which one of us coordinates w/ the monitoring OBGYN?  The RE never mentioned overstimulation, criteria for cancelled cycles, rates of multiples, etc.

My family will be here later this week. I’m part looking forward to it, part stressed. Hopefully anticipating the difficult parts & having a plan will be helpful.

We we went to dinner recently with a couple with also has IF. It seems like she has the, “you haven’t struggled as king & as hard” complex. Maybe we haven’t- but who wants to play that game?  I was hoping for support and all we received was nosiness and judgement. She doesn’t know we have been working with the doctors 2 years now. There are so many different IF paths & they all suck.

    Eta: posted too soon accidentally!

New here and full of hope as we restart our IF battle.
DH (41) & I (34) have been TTC since 2010, 2 IUI cycles in 2012 with Clomid and tabled it for a few years.
We're diagnosed with MFI (Morph 1% & DFI)
We're gearing up for our first cycle of IVF w/ ISCI (ER Feb & FET Mar).  I'm just waiting for AF so I can call in on Day 1 and start BC.  My labs have all come back good so far so I am getting my hopes up that the first IVF cycle is our last.

  • Thank you @GoldenKeys! I appreciate all you to do keep this board thriving. :)

CD18, DPO -1 according to my arbitrary fertility app. I had some symptoms that made me think something was happening - I had a dream so vivid that it could inspire a racy novel and chin acne. I'm assuming my body is saying something. That I should write erotic fiction or that I need a different moisturizer, or both.

I have been planning a trip abroad with more commitment, because doesn't it always happen when you're focusing on other things...?

Fingers crossed for everyone and wishing you all a joyful 2018!

  • @jrm_14 thanks  <3
I think you know my opinion, ask everything you want and don’t be embarrassed about it.
I asked my RE before my second cycle if he was ok with my questions and suggestions- he said he tailors the level of detail for each patient based on need to know, plus level of interest and stress. Some people can’t cope with all the extra info up front - others need to know what will happen in the most likely situations.
So maybe that’s it, or maybe they need some help with their communication  :D

@christenma83 welcome. Hope AF comes soon so you can get started.

@benjay haha loving the writing of erotic fiction!!! Could be a nice little earner ;-)

  • @Benjay haha yeah idk why I keep using my fertility app--I guess just to see where I'm at on the calendar.

AFM, just taking my Letrazole and waiting for my next IUI (Jan 4).

QOTW: Weight loss, man.  I'm not heavy-heavy, just chunkier than I should be.  And poor DH is really getting heavy.  He's naturally so tall and thin, but he's the heaviest he's ever been, and I can tell he's uncomfortable.  So we're going to try low-carb (keto) in January and see how that goes.  I've always resisted low-carb b/c I think it's silly to cut out an entire food group, but so many of our friends swear by it, so we're going to give it a whirl.  And we are not very disciplined when it comes to just reducing calories.  Bleh.  So we're in this weird week now of wanting to start being healthy but also wanting to eat all the bread while we can.   :D

@benjay Where is your trip abroad?

@emmasemm I'm sure I could be one of those download for free or 99c ebook authors on Amazon. I feel like just about anyone could. ;)

@soehlerk I have no idea why I even bother other than to confirm dates with my doctor and infertility specialist. They get to know my average cycle length and all this fun stats!

@jrm_14 We are thinking of taking a Brexit vacation, although that was much more relevant when the US dollar was stronger just after the EU vote. London and Bath (maybe), and Scotland.

  • Hi all! @GoldenKeys I am also very appreciative of all the work you do to run this board. Thank you!!

AFM AF has come and mostly gone and now we’re in our last cycle before IVF Round 2. This week we need to finish sorting out the financing and actually pay. My clinic was reluctant to charge my insurance for the monitoring—thus cutting the OOP cost—even though they’ve done so in the past. So I’m a bit annoyed, but they’ve decided to allow it.

@BenJay Oh yes, write down those dreams and sell that! Some IF financing.

@emmasemm I’m glad the AF timing has worked out for you to start IVF again next cycle! I’ve heard Weill-Cornell in NYC is quite good for challenging cases, but I don’t have first hand experience.

@jrm_14 Hooray for almost being at IUI! But I’m sorry that your clinic is not forthcoming with info. For me, most of that info was covered in the massive consent paperwork we had to sign (for both IUI and IVF). Hopefully you get some answers to your email!

As for your friend, who wants to one up someone about IF? Wow. I’m sorry she was really not supportive and even dismissive of everything you’ve gone through. Usually I find IF to be a bonding experience for people, so it’s really sad that you have an IRL connection and she’s pushing away. You don’t deserve that at all.

    @christenma83 Welcome! Good luck!

@soehlerk and @BenJay I signed up for 3 months premium on FF the other month. Whhhyyyy? It’s not like I’m going to bother getting the ol’ BBT our again.

@soehlerk Good luck with your diet!

QOTW DH and I are finally in a position where we could buy an apartment, so I’d love to do that this coming year!

  • @GoldenKeys Yes, thank you very much for all your work on running this board
@emmasemm- keeping my fingers crossed for you get that HSG magic!
@jrm-14 I'm sorry your dinner didn't go very well.  I don't get how someone who also suffers from IF can act that way.  Everyone's journey is different but it doesn't make it better or worse for the individual person.  I'm sorry you didn't find the support you were looking for.
    @ChristenMA83 Welcome!
@BenJay Your trip abroad sounds amazing!!
@soehlerk How is the Letrazole going for you?
@Bababatty How exciting to be so close.  We made our final payment yesterday.  We decided to put it on our credit card and then make a big payment off of there so we can get the miles for it.  With everything we've put on there for this, it should add up to a nice vacation somewhere warm.

AFM, I start stims on Saturday.  I'm happy with how the Lupron has been going....not very many side effects.  I have gained a little bit of weight but some of that may be holiday weight too.  We go in tomorrow for my baseline ultrasound and labs.

  • @GoldenKeys - another big thank you from me!

@emmasemm - I'm so sorry about cancelled IVF #2. Really hoping this next one is the one for you.

@jrm_14 - welcome to the check-in! I'm excited for you to get started! It'll be cool to see how you respond to the injectables. How old are you?

Ugh. Sounds like a horrible dinner! I haven't had a conversation like that, but I've seen them happen, and I even see how they could happen. A year-or-so ago there was a woman on one of the other boards who was really struggling with IF (we think), and she started lashing out at some of the other participants. She had had recurrent miscarriages for a few months, and seemed to feel that that was much harder than just being straight-up infertile, so she was a little bit nasty to the women who tried to comfort her, like: "You don't understand!".

It made me think a lot. At the time, I hadn't yet been through my surgery and my failed FET and IVF, but I was really struggling with my first failed IUI, and with all my months of TTC beforehand. There were women around the conversation who'd had maybe 1-2 MCs/CPs and had been through something horrible, like 3 failed rounds of IVF. I'll borrow an analogy I saw elsewhere: IF really is like being stuck in this awful cesspool. Some of us are up to our necks, some are fully drowning, and some are knee-deep. But you're still knee-deep in a cesspool, you know? I felt like I was knee-deep, maybe not up to my neck, but it still wasn't good. I didn't presume that I could relate to the women who'd just had their 3rd cancelled IVF cycle, but I knew it wasn't like a competition of who'd been through the most pain. It's not like if you suffer the most, then you get a take-home baby, alas.

Now that I'm more up-to-my-neck though, I do have a hard time with some of the ones who only have their toes in, at least sometimes. Not so much on the boards, but IRL - like, we know a childless couple who wants to have a child but isn't even actively TTC - and she thinks she can relate to us! They did actively TTC for a couple months about a year ago,  **TW** had an MC **TW** then stopped TTC altogether, citing "financial reasons" because his contract expired and he didn't find work again. She'll talk to DH like she knows what it's like to struggle with IF, and I get so annoyed. I can't even talk to her about it because I find it so obnoxious. I mean, I get it, financial struggles are real, and I feel bad that things aren't working out for them. But it's not the same thing, and it offends me when she implies that they are.

Likely, the couple you had dinner with was totally different - a totally different situation - not like the woman who annoys me. Sucks that she didn't bother to listen and provide support!

    @ChristenMA83 - Welcome!

    @BenJay - ooh, a trip! Fun!

@soehlerk - I'm in exactly the same situation with my DH. Not loving all the leftover Christmas candies that are laying around!

@Bababatty - aaah!!! Apartment hunting?!! So fun, so fun!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

@hoffmanr7 - so excited that your stimming is here! It begins!!

AFM: waiting for AF, and then I start medicating for my next FET. I'm getting pretty nervous about it. I want it to take so, so badly. If it doesn't, DH and I are going to have to have a serious talk about what we do next.

For the past couple of years, we have been living really frugally so we could take advantage of some investment opportunities. I'm so glad we've done that, and I know it will pay off, eventually... but paying for IVF took a lot out of us financially, in light of these other opportunities. There's no way we could come up with the cash to do another round right now - I'd need to wait for a while - so I'm really, really hoping this next FET takes!

Funnily enough, half the reason we stretched ourselves so much to take advantage of these opportunities was so we'd have a college fund for our unborn kids. So here we are - college fund and all - waiting for a baby who may never come. :(

Really hoping 2018 starts with a bang, and I can start lecturing my baby in-utero about all the sacrifices mommy and daddy have made, so "we expect you to work very, very hard!"  ;)
  • @Bababatty - I just use a really basic one that does math. I always laugh when I log my marital relations because it asks: 1) protected or not 2) orgasmed or not and 3) How many times?

Hahahah, this is written for 20 somethings isn't it? It does feature a cute zebra character on the main screen... Yes, it was free.

  • @Bababatty I wonder why they were reluctant to charge insurance for monitoring?  Glad they ended up agreeing to it again!

@hoffmanr7 GL at  your appt tomorrow!

@funkykey I am 30 and MH is 32. I’m sorry you’ve had crappy IRL situations, too.  I’d be annoyed by them, too, it sounds like. IF vs RPL seems like a terrible Would You Rather questions because they both effing suck. FX so hard for your FET. I hope hat you don’t have to have that next conversation.

Thank you all for the validation & support if the IRL person being ridiculous. No one deserves to struggle to get KU. No one deraerves to be belittled or made to feel like their sucky situation isn’t enough. It sucks, regardless. Like @funkykey said, we we all in the cesspool. Some neck deep, some waist deep- but all still in the cesspool.

  • @emmasemm fx everything goes well! Interesting that you're looking at international clinics - is this to try to find the best possible option?

@jrm_14 yay! not long now :) That sucks about the other couple. Some people just seem to always make everything a competition. We're all struggling and should just be supporting each other.

I hope everyone is doing well :)

    AFM:
**TW** 10 days to go until our ultrasound now. I keep alternating between insanely happy and absolutely terrified. Plus I'm super hot and nauseous and thirsty almost constantly. In a way the symptoms give me reassurance though :)
I just hope more than anything that we see that heartbeat (or two) in 10 days..

And I truly hope that you all get BFPs soon :)

  • @funkykey I definitely feel like I'm only knee-deep, especially when hearing the stories here.  But yes, IRL I want to pull my hair out when friends say "oh yes, it took us 6 months to conceive!"  Or "oh you're probably just not doing it often enough!"  #okthanks

@Benjay It asks about orgasms??  There are zebras involved?  Color me interested.   :D

And @Goldenkeys I am grateful for the order you bring to this chaos.  Thanks for all you do!

  • Hi all, thank you so much for the sweet words.  I think it was so hard bc I really psyched myself up for Christmas so that I wouldn’t be sad like I was on my birthday...and it worked.  I was having such a great day, so happy...and then that happened and it was just like my world came crashing down.  This is just my like last friend/family who didn’t have a baby either, she has had a lot of fertility issues and had a m/c last year, too.  So whenever I would think “everyone has a baby but us” it would be “well not Walton and Shannon” so it was just harder because of that I think.  A lot of tears and then I actually got sick so I’ve been able to wallow for a couple days bc of that which helped, haha.

As for the whole “you haven’t been trying that long” thing, I totally get that.  Another announcement came on Christmas, a family friend who always comes to me to vent about her PCOS and how she doesn’t ovulate, etc.  She is pregnant with twins after two rounds of Letrazole.  There isn’t an ounce of happiness for that one from me, haha.  I just can’t help it.  It’s the “COME ON, MAN” of the IF world, haha.

AFM, got a BFN negative yesterday which was 13dpo so I’m just waiting for my period to start now.  Probably for the best bc I did get sick and had a really high fever all night and then took a hot bath which I am weirdly terrified of since TTC, haha.

Hugs to all who need it, seems like we have a lot of awesome plans in place though and lots of exciting things to come!  I am going to call a new RE once I start my period, I really need to lose some weight too so maybe I will get the ball rolling on that for the next month while we get started with the new doc.  He comes highly recommended so I’m looking forward to hopefully figuring out why this keeps happening.  TW* We’ve been working with my gyno since our second miscarriage, the RE we were with last year ended up being a terrible fit for us, so hopefully this new one will be better!  I love my gyno, he’s young and new and just happened to be on call when we found out we’d lost that baby and he was just wonderful, but we’ve done three rounds of Letrazole with him now so it’s time to move on.  Blah.

@lablover78 seriously so excited for you, nothing but happiness and joy for you and I love what you said about this cycle feeling different for you!!!!!!  I was just told about reiki, I think I’m going to give it a try!  Also, are you a lawyer?  Lawyer’s wife here, haha.

  • Love to all of the BFN ladies this month, I'm right there with you.  I wasn't surprised since we were trying naturally (so like a 1-2% chance!) but somehow I still manage to have that little bit of hope each month, against all odds.  I guess that's what keeps us all going on this journey.

@jrm_14 - Sorry about the weird competitive feeling from your friend.  Hearing that motivates me to be a better friend to anyone going through this.  @funkykey your insights are spot-on.  We are all on different paths within the world of IF but we should ultimately bond over shared suffering and shared hope rather than constantly compare ourselves to those around us.

AFM, proceeding with the D&C on 1/3 to hopefully remove polyp if it's there and give my lining a good scrape to promote a new healthy environment that will hopefully be IRRESISTIBLE to embryos  ;)

  • @benjay if I had enough time on my hands I would definitely try writing novellas - when I lived in Asia I used to write a long email once a week to a group of friends about all my exploits and they used to say I should turn them into a book ;-)
Those were the days when I was stupidly worried about falling pregnant accidentally... oh the irony...  :D
I have four apps, but none with a zebra lol

@bababatty thanks I hadn’t heard of that clinic, off to look them up! And ouch to having to make the payment for IVF#2 - we just paid our 50% for #3...
And I paid for premium FF for a year even though we’re totally on the IVF train... luckily they added to their IVF and FET options.

@hoffmanr7 oooh we’re on the start block for stimming together on Saturday! Do you mind sharing your protocol please as I’m interested in some Lupron options for round 4. Hope your baseline went smoothly

@funkykey I like your analogy. IF is really crappy full stop.
I really hope this FET is your one.

@lablover78 thanks. Yes the one in Prague is really well known for DE, low prices, great success rates. I had a call and some email info, but they wanted to go straight to DE and we’re not ready yet. But if we are, then they are a good option as we are only a one hour flight away.

@tops-2 We live in Germany which has some of the strictest ART laws. DE is illegal to do in country and has not been tested in court on children conceived by DE out of country but born in it. PGS is not done in country and PGD only after strict pre-selection - eg having an existing child with a serious genetic disorder. Officially freezing of embryos after 2pn (which is not strictly quite even an embryo) is not allowed but most clinics use a loophole in the 25 year old law to get around it when patients have more than one blast. My problem is we only get 1-2 each time, so we have to transfer the one we have unless there is a risk to my life in doing so... We really want to bank 3-4 cycles and try to get a few for PGS testing - so we need to go out of country.
I actually have some good friends in Sydney and did think of taking a sabbatical for 3 months to do three back to back cycles, stay with them and enjoy your summer ;-) I listen to the podcasts with “The Prof” and feel I’d get some nice laid back straight talk from him!

@soehlerk yep, that’s a great one when people to just have more sex... I mean clearly they have no idea how much of a PITA HIO ED during FW for 2.5 years is...

@BWhitta sorry for the BFN. Be kind to yourself.

@wishing-and-hoping Sorry you’re in the December BFN club too. We too have a ridiculously low chance trying naturally but every time DH and I are in “ooooh what if” mode for those days before AF arrives... I think you’re right - without hope how would we go on...

AFM I’ve decided to call today CD1! So stims start on Saturday evening. Come on little old ovaries of mine, time to wake up and get the party started!!!

Yes I’m a lawyer...Does anyone listen to Roseanne Austin’s podcasts? She was a lawyer & I found some of her stuff helpful but she does do a hard sell to purchase her coaching services which gets annoying...but if I understand she’s probably just trying to recoup all the $$ she spent TTC :)

  • Hi all, I’m new! I’m Brittany and I’m 29. Have been TTC since 2015. Diagnosed with anovulatory PCOS with insulin resistance and luteal phase defect. Was on clomid for 4 mos in 2016, was unsuccessful. Decided to take a break a for a bit and stop ‘trying’. This is the first medicated cycle in some time. I was on clomid for cd 5-9 and Ovidrel for trigger. I had 1 follicle on day 14 that wasn’t as big as the would like at 17mm. triggered 1 day later. Currently in 2ww and unfortunately I’m not hopeful due to the small follicle. Any experience?
  • @hoffmanr7 - Today, I saw one too many baby photos of DH's friend's baby on FB, so I started snoozing. Thanks for the tip! I have been snoozing not just pregnant/new baby photos, but all of the people who kind of annoy me on FB. What a gift! This is a great feature!

@jrm_14 - OMG, you guys are so young!

I was thinking about your dinner more, and the more I think about it, the more angry I am. I'm sorry not to have thought of it before, but living with Juvenile Rheumatoid would be hard enough. You shouldn't have to deal with that other sh*t too. Sometimes I think being unexplained sucks, and a lot of people think that there might be links between unexplained and autoimmune - whatever it is, I'm finding it more than difficult! Living with a diagnosable autoimmune that affects so much of your life? (I say this only because if it's "diagnosable" is must be undeniable - and extreme.) I'm so sorry, what a b*tch that woman is, and you must be such a warrior, when I really stop and think about it.

    What is "RPL"?

@tops-2 - so thrilled for you! Really hoping the US goes well!

    @BWhitta - I'm sorry for your BFN. :(

On another note - I mean, I have a hard enough time convincing my DH to do things my way, and he's not a lawyer! How do you do it with someone who is effectively a trained arguer? LOL! Any tips?

    @wishing-and-hoping - good luck with the D&C!

@emmasemm - thinking about it more. I second @Bababatty 's recommendation of Weill-Cornell. I don't know anything about it at all, except that I once read this article, and looks like Weill Cornell worked for this couple:
    https://www.self.com/story/breaking-the-silence-on-infertility

Also, my friend's sister had trouble with her DH. They tried a couple of times in Toronto, Canada, failed, and then moved to Colorado for a month, I think to Denver, to do a round of IVF. Now they have three children. I don't know all the particulars, but apparently there's some clinic in Denver that's also very good. Maybe CCRM? I'm happy to reach out and get more info if you're interested.

@BenJay - I mean, I could be down, but I really cannot imagine DH being up for a second round in one day. Maybe if we were on vacation? Maybe.... maybe! Or maybe if I think back to right when we first started dating, or if I imagine DH as a teenager? LOL. Except highly likely I would not have been attracted to his 19-year-old self. Hahahahaha.

    Hahahahahahahaha.

Still chuckling about DH's emo phase.

@Bgreenfield10 - welcome! It only takes one follie! Hoping this one is the one for you!
  • @emmasemm wow, that's fascinating. I'm in Sydney, so I can recommend my specialist if you're interested - he's very good :)

haha, @funkykey he is an extremely kind, quiet, level-headed and reasonable guy!  We’re not much for arguing, (not yet at least) we both just sort of sulk and retreat to our corners if we get mad, but if we do argue, I definitely have to take time to get my thoughts together, haha.  If he gets on the phone though with customer service reps or anything like that (for example, talking to our RE who ordered unnecessary expensive tests, or our insurance company after Hurricane Irma...) I have to leave the room, haha.  He’s not mean or nasty or anything, but I always feel bad for whoever is on the other end of the line haha, it’s pretty impressive though and definitely nice to have around!

@lablover78 I haven’t heard that one I will definitely check it out!!!

  • Baseline Ultrasound and labs yesterday went well....everything is right where it needs to be.  Starting Stims tomorrow!,

@funkykey Glad I could help!  I think that is the best thing they have added to facebook in a long time
@emmasemm I have been on 10mL of Lupron since 12/16.  I stopped my oral BC on 12/22.  Starting tomorrow, I decrease the Lupron to 5mL and start 225 units of Gonal F, and 2 vials of Menopur daily for my stims.  I start my monitoring US and labs on the 3rd.

I was excited but now I'm just plain stressed out thanks to work.  I had intended to take the whole week off of the expected ER just to minimize stress as my job tends to create a lot of it.  That didn't work out because my boss will be on vacation the first half of that week.  But still, I had it all worked out.  I had extra help planned out on the floor so someone could cover the office a couple of days and then, if the ER fell mid week or later in the week, the only day no one would be in the office would be Wednesday (boss is back that Thursday).  I had the schedule all ready to go, had the next two weeks all planned out......and wham.

We just lost one of our staff who had to go on medical leave for I don't know how long.  I knew it was a possibility, had it all planned just in case but the pain is this weekend.  She was, of course, supposed to work this weekend so now I am scrambling to try and get it filled......as well as finishing off a new schedule.  I know it will all work out in the end, but it is definitely not how I wanted to start my weekend out. I could just cry. End rant.

  • @funkykey - OMG thinking of my DH as a 19 year old O_O. My God, me as a 19 year old... Maybe I would go back in time and put up with him knowing that I would spare myself that first boyfriend with the intimacy issues. Maybe I would have enjoyed my 20s. ;);)

  • @hoffmanr7 I start tomorrow, too! Sorry your work is being so stressful right now. Take whatever time you need for you, though. (Trust me, I’ll be telling myself the same thing :/

@emmasemm what crazy laws! I hope you find a good alternative!

@GoldenKeys  thank you for keeping this board running!

A little late to the party this week. I’ve been trying to keep my mind off of impending IVF. Meds arrived today (finally!) and now I’m reminded again...

QOTW: be okay saying no and not feeling guilty about it. Also start my Duolingo Spanish again :)
  • @hoffmanr7 Take care of yourself. Make time for self care and continue to work to delegate things to others. I hope that your stress level will stay as low as possible, given the change in plans.

@BWhitta That’s so nice you can see that as a skill of your H’s to talk to customer service people ;)

@benjay I used to have a MUCH higher sex drive than MH. Babymaking has put a serious damper on that. FX 2018 ends your obligatory-sex streak!

@Bgreenfield10  Sorry that you find yourself here. Welcome.

@wishing-and-hoping  I like how you said my ....frienemy making IF a competition motivates you to be a better friend.

@halfanewt I’m sorry that the meds arriving are so double edged- exciting they arrived & things are getting on the road. Yet, sucks you’re at this point. Keep doing things to distract yourself. ❤️

@funkykey RPL=recurrent pregnancy loss. Thanks for your support.  We are spending this evening somewhere this person is, too. I get more and more upset thinking about it the longer I am around her.
