Re: EDD Feb 11-17 (33 weeks) week of 12/24

  • Thanks for starting this @psm2462

    1) 32 weeks! (8 weeks to go!)
33 weeks! :) It’s crazy how fast time is flying by...

    2) How are you feeling?
Lots of back aches, belly is feeling heavier so sleeping has become more difficult.

    3) Any appointments this week?
    No appointments this week!

    4) Rants/Raves/Questions?
Do you think putting a heating pad on my lower back for a period of time is a bad thing? I know you can take a bath up to 100 degrees, but do you think a heating pad is bad? I use my car seat heater while driving, and it can’t be much different besides direct skin contact... thoughts?

    5) GTKY: What was the best gift you got over the holidays? (Copied from another EDD post)
DH got me a prenatal massage for Christmas. I’m so excited to schedule it since my back has been bothering me so much. I got some UGGs for easy slip on shoes so I don’t have to ask DH to tie mine anymore. Plus, with winter coming, it’ll be nice to have warm feet too!

I hope you all all had a wonderful holiday!

    1) 33weeks on Friday! (7 weeks to go!)
    Sorry had to adjust that.
    2) How are you feeling?
Well I've had a cold since Dec. 15. Can't get whopping cough shot while sick and deadline is 34 weeks. Getting nervous
    3) Any appointments this week?
Yes we have our weekly Wednesday appointment at 5pm today. Then Saturday going to hospital for weekly Saturday NST and Biophysical ultrasound. Fingers crossed they let LO stay in and she shows signs of growth.
    4) Rants/Raves/Questions?
Rant.Call me a brat, but I'm getting annoyed that ILs haven't bought anything for LO except a 3-pack of Seahawk onesies  for 6-9 months. And a 3- pack of WSU onesie 0-3 months. She needs more than sport onesies( which I despise) and hello February....warm clothes.
    5) GTKY: What was the best gift you got over the holidays? (Copied from another EDD post)
Nothing see rant above. I was expecting a lot of baby stuff this christmas....you know what happens when you assume.
  • @jenniferjoy37 my midwife okayed the use of a heating pad on my lower back to help with my preterm contractions.  I think there's even less of a concern with a heating pad raising your core body temperature than with a bath, and at this point in pregnancy overall less of a concern with raising your body temp.  I say whatever keeps you comfortable!

    1) 33weeks on Friday! (7 weeks to go!)
Thanks @chawk17, I did a bad copy/paste job from another EDD post :)

    2) How are you feeling?
+1 for nursing a cold... no escaping it this time of year when your toddler is in daycare.  Still having irregular contractions so just managing those with heat, rest, and hydration.  Feeling less anxious about the preterm labor concern with every day and week that passes.  34 is the magic number, so I'll be breathing much easier once I pass that next week!

    3) Any appointments this week?
Nothing this week, regular appt next week and an exam to see if these contractions have changed my cervix any further.  I'd love to carry this baby to term, but also wouldn't be disappointed if I'm getting some of the early dilation out of the way before active labor!

    4) Rants/Raves/Questions?
@Chawk17 I absolutely won't call you a brat since I have the same rant.  My MIL was the same way with my first, and continues to be relatively aloof to what our actual needs might be.  She will be the first to make a passive aggressive comment about not feeling included in things, but also makes zero effort to contribute.

Rave is making it another week with baby still cooking inside! Although the unknown of what could happen is making it difficult to take on work so I spend a lot of time tooling around at the office.

    5) GTKY: What was the best gift you got over the holidays? (Copied from another EDD post)
Not to sound cheesy, but the best gift was watching my toddler come downstairs on Christmas morning.

    1) 33 weeks! (7 weeks to go!)

    2) How are you feeling?
Getting over this bug we've been dealing with for about a week. Still get heartburn/reflux on occasion and usual pelvic pressure and aches.

    3) Any appointments this week?
Regular OB appt. and NST on Thursday.

    4) Rants/Raves/Questions?
Induction in about five weeks. Still so much to do. My mom and sister fly in this afternoon. Haven't seen my mom in almost a year and three years since I've seen my sister. <3

    5) GTKY: What was the best gift you got over the holidays? (Copied from another EDD post)
The song DH wrote for me. He framed the lyrics and hung it next to his guitars. He also gave me a deep tissue massager and Lush bath/shower goodies. Also love the card dd1 gave me. It made me tear up. :) My gift to myself was a bespoke perfume. The process was originally started in the summer, but I had to put it on hold due to an unexpected bathroom remodel. The started the process up again in October and the perfumer was finished with the final mods and sent the bottles last Tuesday and received them a couple days later. Yay!

  • 1) 33 weeks! (8 weeks to go!)
Starting next week, we can say we are due next month!
    2) How are you feeling?
Overall, good, but feeling large! Last week, my tailbone was hurting so did some stretches to help with the pain. Ate a ton over the past few days, so feeling full of holiday food + baby.
    3) Any appointments this week?
Not until next week. We also have an U/S scheduled next Friday!
    4) Rants/Raves/Questions?
@Chawk17 - sorry that you didn't much baby stuff! I experienced the opposite. We have so many baby blankets, bath towels, and baby socks! I can send some over to you, but they're boy stuff!
    5) GTKY: What was the best gift you got over the holidays? (Copied from another EDD post)
Got a lot for baby, but DH got me an in-home massage! I'll probably save that for after the baby is born.
  • @Chawk17 I hope you feel better soon! That’s got to be terrible to have a cold right now! I feel you on the IL thing too. I don’t feel like they’re too excited for the baby just yet. LO got gifts from my parents, BIL and SIL but not from IL. Weird. Maybe in time they will come around... who knows...

@psm2462 Am I missing something? Why is 34 the magic number?

@soulculcake Ahhh! 5 more weeks!! Crazy!!! What does the perfume smell like? sounds like it would have been fun to put together!

@jennifer_m21  An in-home massage?! That’s awesome! I’m sure you’ll be so much more comfortable at home.
  • @jenniferjoy37 sorry for any confusion.  I have a history of preterm delivery and have been dealing with preterm contractions with this one (have been 1cm and 80% effaced since 31 weeks).  34 weeks is the point where they will no longer administer drugs to get my labor to stop, and with the steroids I received for the baby, the gestational age where he is likely to do well/need little NICU time.
  • Gotcha! @psm2462 Keep cooking LO! Do you think baby will come fast after they stop giving drugs to stop labor?
  • @jenniferjoy37 hard to say! My midwife has definitely hedged a lot, reiterating that "anything could happen."  But given that my first came at 36 weeks (and I didn't have any signs of preterm labor, my water just broke spontaneously), it's less likely he will come later than that.  So we are pretty much prepared for him to come any time in January!
  • jenniferjoy37 - I've used a heating pad on my lower back during pregnancy. I'll probably start using mine in a couple weeks when the lower backaches really hit. As for the perfume, back when we started the whole concept, I wanted a perfume that reminded me of new baby smell. Something soft and comforting. That was at the point where H and I thought we were likely done and dd3 was weaning from breastfeeding. My taste in fragrances is vast and varied and changes based on mood and season. I also collect niche, natural, indie, and bespoke fragrances. This was a very different project than the others I commissioned, but turned out really well. The perfumer used a champagne note with musk, benzoin, and a little vanilla. The champagne note gives it a delicate sparkle/fuzziness and the musk and vanilla a soft and sweet smell.

Chawk17 - I'm sorry about the lack of baby gifts. I'd be bummed, too. Keeping fingers crossed your little girl is growing well!

  • @jenniferjoy37 I also use a heating pad...  it seems localized enough that there wouldn't be any adverse affects at this point.

    1) 33 weeks! (7 weeks to go!)

eep! made my to-do list yesterday... I've actually managed to do a lot that would have been on it, anyway. but then I looked at the hospital packing list that I made with DD, and felt like I was soooo much more organized with her!

    2) How are you feeling?
Pretty good... contractions have decreased in intensity and frequency, so that's reassuring. Managed to get a long-ish walk in while my mom was in town, which felt really good.

    3) Any appointments this week?
Ultrasound to check cervical length tomorrow, followed by a tour of the hospital (woo hoo!)

    4) Rants/Raves/Questions?
I feel like I'm in a weird limbo with so much to do, but no idea where to start. I hope it'll be a little easier to organize when DD goes back to daycare next week.

    5) GTKY: What was the best gift you got over the holidays? (Copied from another EDD post)
I was pretty spoiled this season... my mom bought me a serger (the kind of sewing machine that makes it easier/ faster to sew knits and finish seams on woven fabrics, for those that don't sew ;) ) which I'm hoping will make it easier to sew clothes for the kiddos! I love to sew, so I'm pretty excited :D

I am so ready to no longer be pregnant and so not ready to have a baby lol
    2) How are you feeling?
Very large, starting to have some sciatic pain
    3) Any appointments this week?
I have one on Friday, kinda jealous of others who get a routine 3rd tri us.
    4) Rants/Raves/Questions?
@Chawk17 - If it makes you feel any better my in laws have gotten nothing for this baby.
    5) GTKY: What was the best gift you got over the holidays? (Copied from another EDD post)
DH and I did not do gifts this year, my mom got us an amazon gift card to put towards a stroller

  • 1) 32 weeks! (7 weeks to go!) Oh my...

    2) How are you feeling? I'm feeling okay.  I'm sleeping like crap, which I'm sure is just part of the deal at this point (right?).  I'm still on bedrest at home, and waiting to find out whether or not I'll be allowed to go back to work before baby, or not.  I have been dealing with a pre-term labor 'scare', (but I'm a FTM, so no history), and am just hoping to keep her happy and cozy in there as long as possible.

    3) Any appointments this week? I am going weekly at this point, as I'm considered high-risk now, so we have an appt. this afternoon.  I don't know what to expect, in terms of what they'll do today that's different from my past appts (like, since I was 2cm dilated last week, will they be checking that?), or from here on out.  I've seen other ladies mention regular NSTs, or ultrasounds, so I just am wondering if/how the course of action will change.  This is the first 'complication' I've dealt with (which I am so thankful for!), so I am new to these things.

    4) Rants/Raves/Questions?  While DH is home for Christmas break (we're teachers), I'm trying to think of things we can get done.  Anyone else put the carseat in yet? Is there a disadvantage of doing it this "soon" (quotes because we really have no idea when LO will come at this point).  Anyone else doing baby things right now that we could all to our list?

    5) GTKY: What was the best gift you got over the holidays?
We got LOTS of things off of our registry, which was great (we've already had my shower).  I also got gift cards, which I can use for nursing bras/tanks at Target, or diapers, wipes, etc.  In terms of favorites, I love the navy floral lovies and this baby book that my mom got for us.  Those are so special :)  I also got a YETI coffee mug, which will be great once the baby comes because I hate when my coffee gets cold!

Stuck in the box: This is interesting- I was 2cm (and don't judge, but I don't know anything about effacement) at 32w + 0d, so similar, maybe?  Good job staying put, LO!  I hope the baby continues to stay in. :)

@lucylou214 hoping yours continues to stay put as well! As for what to expect going forward, I'm sure every provider will differ slightly on their course of action for our situation (as an example, I wasn't put on bedrest, just told to limit my activity level and rest when I started to contract), but I assume if you've continued to have contractions they will check you to see if you've had any further changes to your cervix.  I don't have plans for NSTs or other ultrasounds since baby looked great when I was in the hospital last week (growing well, heartrate responding well to contractions, no concerns with fluid levels or anything like that).  I'll be curious to hear how your appointment goes, so please keep us posted!

On the carseat question, I think the only concern with installing this early is that if you were to be in a car accident (god forbid), you'd have to replace the carseat.  That being said, there's no harm in installing the base and leaving the carseat itself out for now.  Hopefully baby stays put past 37 weeks but as an FYI if LO comes early they will have to take a "car seat test" in the hospital where they put them in their car seat for a period of time (I think an hour?) and monitor their oxygen level.  Thankfully my 36-weeker passed with flying colors, but just something to be aware of!

ETA: effacement refers to how thinned out your cervix is (it will go from 0% in an unchanged cervix to 100% to deliver your baby).  If you get checked today, you might ask!

I see we were all waiting to get this started...it blew up this morning. I actually had to take notes! Thank you @psm2462 for getting this going. And good luck keeping baby in and past 34 weeks ( fingers crossed)...it seems our group has a few of us with baby issues.  :# this trimester.
@jenniferjoy37 agree with others on heating pad, and jealous of masssge.
@soulcupcake good luck with nst and I love dhs gift! Romantic.
@jennifer_m21 see thats what I need those small things...socks, towels ect. Now I'm extra jealous!
@katefb17 good news on less contractions...fingers crossed for good news at us tomorrow.
@GoogleMD +1 over being pregnant. I'm over my clothes not fitting.
  • Thank you SO much, @psm2462 .  This was super helpful!  I will definitely ask today.  I really appreciate all of that info.  It's been a little scary to all of a sudden to have all of these things to 'worry about'.  I'll report back tonight, for sure!
  • 1) 33 weeks! (7 weeks to go!)
Just about 5 in my case!

    2) How are you feeling?
No appetite lately, and massive pressure in the pelvis. Plus peeing all the time. And tired. And hard poops.

    3) Any appointments this week?
    Nope, next week.

    4) Rants/Raves/Questions?
Kind of the opposite of @Chawk17 but I also feel like a brat. Yesterday I was sorting through the giant pile of baby stuff that we still have to sort and found this basket of bath supplies MIL had given us, in addition to the seemingly millions of onesies, hats, bibs, and socks she gave us at the shower, and in it was a pack of 24 washcloths (and here I thought I had washed everything). Then I found a box I must have overlooked filled with 10 more washcloths and hooded towels. I started to curse her name because OMG, who needs this many damn washcloths for a baby who gets bathed just a couple times a week? Then I said "ok, MIL, challenge accepted: I will go an entire year without reusing a single washcloth." I gotta make it fun or I will curse her name with every damn bath. I think my bad reaction was a result of feeling overwhelmed by the amount of crap we now have to cram into this tiny room and I can't imagine a baby needs all this stuff, but she just won't stop buying shit. So yeah, I'm a brat too.

Also--what's with the over use of those plastic attaching thingies on baby stuff? I was trying to get the tags off this hooded robe and it had plastic thingies attaching it to cardboard, attaching the already-sewn-on belt, and then randomly attaching it to itself. I have no idea if I got them all...

    5) GTKY: What was the best gift you got over the holidays? (Copied from another EDD post)
My favorite candy from Fannie May candies. And it was a gift to NOT have my mom give me a bunch of crap that she got for free at random store giveaways or the dollar aisle and just "needed to get rid of," like fancy bar soaps or tote bags. And she finally took my taste into account and didn't buy me jewelry SHE likes, but got me something that I would actually wear. I'm grateful to not have a house full of crap!

@lucylou214 Yes to what @psm2462 said about the car seat. Install the base now juuuuuuuust in case of an accident.

    2) How are you feeling?
I'm still having hip and back pain which sucks but I've been dealing with that for months.
    3) Any appointments this week?
I actually had mine this morning. Everything with baby looks good but I might be starting to have some blood pressure problems.
    4) Rants/Raves/Questions?
Rave: I cannot wait to start my maternity leave. My last day is Monday and then I have off the rest of the year (yay for living in Canada)
    5) GTKY: What was the best gift you got over the holidays? (Copied from another EDD post)
I've gotten some pretty awesome gifts this year. Got the softest new blanket and reading socks. And my dad finally came up from PA to visit me for the first I me since I moved here.

  • @Chawk17 ugh I hate the bump app!!
  • 1) 33 weeks! (7 weeks to go!)
    2) How are you feeling? Day 6 of a cold and still feeling super congested.
    3) Any appointments this week? Nope.  Starting weekly NSTs next week.
    4) Rants/Raves/Questions?
Rant: I swore up and down before getting pregnant that I was going to be med free if I ever got pregnant, but this sucks.  Called the OB's office and the nurse told me it was ok to take Tylenol Cold and Flu.  After taking 3 doses yesterday and feeling a little better, DH's anxiety kicked in and he Googled it and it was pretty much on the "NEVER TAKE WHEN PREGNANT" list.  We called the emergency number for the OB's office and the attending was like, "yeah, you definitely shouldn't take that.  Do  you remember the name of the nurse you spoke to so I can tell her never to tell anyone it's ok again?"  The attending was great, though, and talked us through our anxiety.  The risk is elevated BP for mom.  Since I historically have low BP, we weren't too concerned, but I drank a TON of water last night to flush it through my system.  It was an anxiety filled night with many trips to the bathroom, but all is good and the baby is kicking away this morning.

    5) GTKY: What was the best gift you got over the holidays? (Copied from another EDD post)  Third time is a charm:  DH got into the lottery for tickets to see Springsteen on Broadway (we've both tried all three times the lottery was offered.  I never got a code and DH finally got a code on the third try).  The tickets are for the end of March, so it will be our first date after LO arrives.

  • @babybro218 i would be livid...the nurses are supposed to be the one with education ect.not Google for most up to date info... I would report her to your ob.

4- DH & my mom are cleaning my house and doing my pre baby to do list!! I am so happy i could cry
5- got a stroller w/ infant carseat from my ILs and a bread maker from DH!
  • @Chawk17 we were livid! Sounds like the attending on call will talk to the nurse and we are going to say something to our OB at my appt next week.

So since you're measuring 2 weeks  fundally.(...yeah i made that word up)early are they thinking you'll go earlier?
  • @Chawk17 makes me nervous! Doc said they would keep an eye on it but she isn't worried yet. I am a tall person so maybe I just have a big baby that will need to come out early

A fundal height +/- 2-3 cm (equivalent of weeks) is within normal range. Some caregivers may investigate further if it jumps to 4 cm, and definitely 5+, as it could point to excess fluid. I started measuring 5-6 cm ahead at 26 weeks with my first. I had a combination of moderate polyhydramnios (excess fluid) and she was suspected to be LGA. Except with my ds1, as I had severe polyhydramnios with him, I typically measure 2-3 cm ahead as a multipara. I'm measuring at 35 "weeks" right now, although he is in the 85% for weight, 2 cm isn't that much. Things like baby's position, fluid levels, as it fluctuates, and mom's torso are factors that contribute to fundal measurement.

So, the appt went well today!  The Dr. did not do a cervix check, but said he will note for the one I'm seeing next week (it's a multi-provider practice) to do so, since it was just checked a week ago.  I think DH and I might have felt better if he had, but I also know there are disadvantages to doing it too often, and we don't want to stir anything up.

I have no idea if I'm having contractions (I didn't know before, either), but he felt like unless I did start feeling them and they were painful, not to worry for now.  No plans for NSTs or ultrasounds for the same reason as you- baby looked fine when she was looked at at last week in the hospital, so they are not concerned about her.  I am still on "restriction" for another week (they said there is no evidence that ACTUAL bedrest IN bed does any good in keeping labor at bay, but restricting activities and laying low can help for sure), but will be gently going back to work next week, unless something changes.

Also, for what it's worth, my doctor also mentioned the magic number of 34 weeks, saying what you wrote earlier- that at that point, they would not try to stop labor.

Well I got promoted to having ultrasounds twice a week with nsts. Going to ob is getting depressing.
Still breech.  Dr. Could take her via section as early as Dec. 30th. But we are trying to make it to 37.
He did say she more than likely will be a premie with a nicu stay.  So over the bad news.
Also I had to go to L&D for a steroid shot, and again 24 hrs later to help support lung development.
  • @lucylou214 great news for now! Sounds like we are in the exact same boat.  I was also told not to call or go to L&D unless things escalated in frequency/intensity from what I've been experiencing, or if I have any other warning signs (fluid loss, spotting, etc.).  I do feel at least a few contractions every day, but nothing regular and they are very, very mild.  I'm just trying to reframe it mentally as a good opportunity to practice staying relaxed through early labor :) And we are SO close to 34 weeks! We got this!

@Chawk17 I'm so sorry to hear about your appointment yesterday.  And those steroid shots are super uncomfortable, right?? I was not prepared for that.  I am sure the twice weekly ultrasounds are a pain, but at least you can take solace that they are keeping a close eye on her so they're able to make the best decision.  A friend of mine had IUGR and got all the way to 38 weeks before she had to be induced (which also gave her time for baby to turn, so she did not need a section).  I will cross my fingers the same is true for you.  Even if you don't get to 37, every day and every week counts, and as with me and @lucylou214 you are SO close to 34 weeks -- with the steroid shots on board, a NICU stay at that point would likely only be a couple of weeks and she will do just beautifully.  You're in all of our thoughts.
  • @Chawk17 sorry about your news. Hopefully they can keep baby in until 37 weeks. I will be thinking of you little one.

@lucylou214 glad you got good news
  • @lucylou214 congrats on the good news!

@Chawk17 thinking of you and hoping that LO continues to grow strong in there!! I’m glad they’re keeping a close eye on her!
  • @Chawk17 will be thinking of you and sending good vibes to you and LO
  • @chawk, thinking of you! I know it likely seems super overwhelming, but I agree with others that I would also want them keeping a super close eye, which it seems that they are doing. The steroid shot was definitely unpleasant, but important for sure.  Fingers are crossed for you!

@lucylou214 great news for now!

Thanks, the problem isn't her being breech- that just means c. Section. Which I'm okay with.
And we found out they only do growth scans every four weeks... so we aren't sure of her size as of yesterday. What is the immediate concern now is..which contributed to the double ultrasounds is she has a blood circulation abnormality. 2 weeks ago our dr. Told us if it decreases then she is coming out....well yesterday it started to decrease. There isn't anything to do except monitor, cross fingers and wait and see. 37 is considered full term. At 32/33 weeks she's moderate premie. Dr. Did say nicu more than likely would be 2 months.   :#...thank you for thoughts everyone....its scary.

On a funny note....Apparently, in a nsts you have to feel the baby move and kick. I didnt know that so I got stressed out. I don't feel her move. So during the us the tech was like she just kicked...you felt it right?  Um no- I don't feel her.   Apparently that stresses everyone out when you tell them you cant feel her.  In my defense I brought this subject up at 24 weeks, 30 weeks, and 31 weeks and got the brush off....NOW it's a big deal.
The good news is she moves like crazy....i can't feel it though.
  • @Chawk17 - thinking of you! Agree with the PPs above - sounds like your dr. is looking out for the best for you and baby.
  • Oh one more funny positive thing I'm about not feeling baby...dr came into nst to deliver our news ( so distracting when I'm focusing on feeling baby).. he looks at me and goes " oh...you're having a set of contractions right now"....i look at him and go " I feel nothing doc  :)" hmmm if I had to go naturally....maybe I have super powers and itd be easy...doubt it.

Oh yes, @jennifer_m21 our dr. Is amazing. He is the one  ( after 3 years of infertility and 2 worthless ob dr.) To realize we have infertility issues. Went to him desparate Aug. 2016.he diagnosed me and had my left tube removed Oct. 2016. And successfully  pregnant by may 2017. We love him and trust him.  We started this journey sept. 2013 and were constantly told " be patient" by the other docs.
