I was induced at 39 weeks 3 days due to hypertension - I don't know too much about pre-e, but it's definitely something that is in the back of my mind. Per my OB, I took baby aspirin prior to us trying for this baby, but stopped around 8 weeks. I haven't gotten the all clear to take it again after my surgery on the 1st, but I'm hoping to be able to get that at my next appointment.
My swelling got really, really bad towards the end and my OB thought I looked off. My BP didn't get high, so being induced was more preventive - and luckily my body was ready to go and handled it well.
I'll be following this thread to learn a little more. I'm not sure how much of a risk I am with the previous hypertension.
Here is one study I read. If you had pre eclampsia once according to this study you have a 1in4 chance of getting it in a subsequent pregnancy. I would be interested to read any studies you have were they say your risk decreases with subsequent pregnancies. Taking the low dose aspirin will hopefully lower all of our risks of getting it again.
I had pre-E at 38wks with my last pregnancy. I had to push for extra testing cause my protein was not in my urine and my BP was not the normal "high", but I was swollen, my BP was high for me (130/87) and I felt awful. They admitted me after doing a protein ratio blood test.
This time they have been doing extra blood work, I have a BP machine I use at work and home and they have not started aspirin... but it has been mentioned as a possibility or other anticoag meds if needed.
@Kendrajos I wasn't disagreeing with the fact that you are more likely to get it if you had it the first time...just the part where you said you are more likely to get it "especially if your children share a father."
Ugh I just got results of my 24 hour urine test and there's some protein in my urine. It is just above the normal level so they aren't concerned yet but will be keeping a close eye on me. I already have a lot of anxiety about something going wrong and this isn't helping. But this actually might mean it wasn't really pre-e last time..or it was a combination of an existing kidney problem and the added stress of pregnancy. So that makes me feel a little better...maybe.
@fraufarbissina Protein in your urine is actually pretty common. All sorts of things can cause it, such as exercise. It happened to me a few years ago and I totally freaked out. Subsequent tests were all normal. I hope you have the same experience!
@suchaglencoco thanks! At least if things go south, they'll catch it early because I have lots of lab work in my future
@gildah that makes me feel better! From what I've read, it could be elevated because of something minor like being dehydrated or stressed or tired. And I'm probably all of those things right now lol
