(Clarification Added) Daily Ticker Changes or Weekly Due Date Threads?

ETA: The poll is closed but I added a post at the bottom with some clarification for those who were confused about this.
Hi everyone! A few of the other BMBs have done away with the daily ticker changes because they don't make a ton of sense since you'd be posting with people who are a couple weeks behind or ahead of you. Instead, some of the BMBs do a weekly check in based on your week/due date. So they do four due date check ins per week. For example, if your due date is August 13th, you'd participate in the "DD Check In - Second Week" thread or if your due date is August 30th, you'd participate in the "DD Check In - Fourth Week" thread. The June BMB does these DD Check In threads on Thursdays, but we can do whatever day of the week we want. In addition, to keep celebrating the weekly ticker changes, the June BMB does a Weekly Ticker Change Gif Celebration thread. Of course, we don't have to model our board off of another month, but it seemed to work really well so I wanted to see what everyone thought about it.
I posted about this on the Board Organization thread today and some people thought it seemed like a good idea, so I'd start a poll to see what the general consensus is.
Anyways, if I didn't explain it well, go check out the May and June BMBs (I believe these are the only BMBs doing this, but I could be wrong) and let us know what you think!

I'll ho along with the majority of course. I selected other because I loved how we did it with my last BMB which was just one weekly ticker change thread and everyone would post there. If anyone wants to check out March '16 you'll see what I'm talking about. It worked well. But if I had to pick another option it would be one of the weekly ticket change threads!

@ecwk Ah, a weekly ticker change thread could work too, but I imagine it might get really crowded (depending on how many people participate, I suppose). Personally, I think it would be nice to have people to talk to who had a similar due date so we could discuss similarities, symptoms, milestones, whatever, instead of just having a hodgepodge of due dates in one thread. But maybe I'm the odd one out here!

I voted daily but mainly because it's what we did in Jan 17 and it's what I'm used to. I like that it makes your day special. However, I see the value in your suggestion and I'm happy to go along with the majority vote.

@ecwk The weekly ticker change is what we did in Dec14’ too. I liked it because it was still the whole board participating so you got familiar with everyone’s DDs not just those in your week or weekday. That said I voted for the by week because that’s my favorite of the two options and before you said yours I couldn’t remember how we did it in D14’

I like the idea of due date threads - getting to know people due around the same time as you

I think we'd need 5 weeks for August though? Just a little bit more than 4 weeks in Aug

I also like the idea of the threads for week you are due, especially starting out. I don't remember what we did on my last bmb but I like your suggestion. I'd like to see the people with dd closest to mine easily. 3 weeks can be a decent leap in baby development, symptoms difference, and appointments. I would still stalk the hell out of the other threads, but it'd be nice not to have to search for similar dd

I’m still trying to understand out how this works. So every week there will be a new ticker change thread, but you only post in yours once a month based on your EDD? And what about months with less days than August? Do people due the 29th-31st not get a thread in February? Someone explain it to me better.... Do you only post in your thread when your actual ticker change happens? If so, that doesn’t always line up with dates since every month has a different amount of days.

@lalala2004 The way I understand it is that every week (Thursdays for example) there would be 4 (or 5 as @tops-2 pointed out) threads created for ticker change. One for those folks due the first week, one for those due the second week, etc. That way you have people checking in with others that are due around the same time as them.

So you would post in the thread that contains your due date every week.

FTR I voted for the option with the gif party because I've been googling some awesome gifs.

@lalala2004 I could be wrong but every week there will be 4/5 different ticker changes.

Maybe Aug 1 - 4 (1st week)
Aug 5 - 11 (2nd week)
Aug 12 - 18 (3rd week)
Aug 19 - 25 (4th week)
Aug 26 - 31 (5th week)

So every week there will be a check in based on what week you are due. And all the threads could be started on a Sunday, say, and regardless of what actual day your ticker changes, as long as it within that week, you belong there. So you might say "I will be 8 weeks on Tuesday" or "I will be 8 weeks on Friday" depending on your own situation. So if I am due on the 17th, every week I will post in the "Week 3 Ticker Change'' or whatever it is called.

@ecwk I like what you've got listed there for the weeks (waves at my week 4 peeps)
Can we extend the 1st week and last week in case people will be induced early or anticipate going past their EDD? So like the 1st week would be July 29th - Aug 4th and the last week would be Aug 31st and beyond?

Just a thought

@lalala2004 Right, @mrsbubbles-2 and @ecwk explained it well. Hopefully my explanation above wasn't terrible.
@tops-2 I thought we'd tack on those 3 extra days to week 4 instead of making a thread just for 3 dates.
For example:
DD Check In - First Week: August 1-7
DD Check In - Second Week: August 8-14
DD Check In - Third Week: August 15-21
DD Check In - Fourth Week: August 22-31
But we can do whatever the majority wants to do!

I can also create a new poll if people think a weekly ticker change thread for everyone to participate in (instead of a daily ticker change) is a better idea than the DD check in.

I was thinking the layout would be like @offtoneverland above example. I personally think that makes more sense than the week it falls on the actual calendar because you just need to know your date and not look at calendar to see oh it’s in the third week

I’ve never really found the daily ticker posts useful, they never seemed to develop any real conversation ime - I think week of makes way more sense!

Bumping this up for some more votes, hopefully. It appears that the weekly DD check ins are winning by a large margin, so if you don't like that idea, please vote!
We'll aim to close the poll by the end of the day (Thursday) unless anyone wants to keep it running longer.

I personally would prefer weekly check-ins, just because my DD is the end of the month, and people reaching certain milestones or having symptoms that I don't have yet because they're weeks ahead is still going to freak me out. So, for selfish reasons, that's my choice.

@jsnakehole just to offer a devil's advocate POV - in my last BMB we did the daily check in regardless of when in the month you were due, and I actually found it helpful to check in with ladies who were due before me because it gave me a heads up on some of the symptoms and things that were coming my way. I'm a planner and I do not like to be blind-sided by anything, so it was nice to have a general expectation of what might be coming.

Again though, I want to reiterate that I'm happy to do whatever the majority wants. I don't mean to be a squeaky wheel about doing it my way, just offering up my two cents on why it is still valuable.

I really like the idea of due date check-ins, I would be a lot more interested in seeing what ladies that are close to me in weeks are experiencing. I don't bother with the daily ticker change threads on my day and I think these type of threads will get more participation.

Oh I like the idea of both. I like a thread for people meag my due date. It will be good towards the end too.

But the day of the week ticker change brings different people together too. I still see people from my M14 group say to each other “we were in the same ticker change day group”

@izmom28 I think it would be too much to have daily threads plus 4 due date threads each week. That would be a lot of threads on top of all the other ones we have, meaning that lots of threads would get pushed to the bottom and would be hard to find. Just my 2 cents. I was only in the June18 BMB for a few days and other than that have no experience with BMBs so maybe I haven't had enough experience to say.

@ecwk I tagged @mrslittlemac in the organization thread to have her update it. Saturday and Sunday both look like dates that aren't too full of threads already, so either of those would work. Is Sunday the preference?
Also, looks like not many people wanted the gif celebration thread so we can nix that one unless there are any complaints.

Hi everyone, I'm bumping this up to add some clarification. Some people have been confused thinking they're only supposed to post in these DD check in threads on their ticker change dates. That's not true! The DD check in threads are not related at all to your ticker changes, so you can post in the DD check in thread all week long, on any day you want to. I hope this clarifies some confusion, but please let me know if you have any other questions.
The board organization thread was updated to add the new DD check in threads and remove the daily ticker changes. The DD check ins will be on Saturdays, but like I said, they're designed so we can post in them all week long, not just on Saturday or your ticker change day.
