@ashleyf911 it really isn't too hard to count carbs. If you need any guidance we all are happy to help.

I'm sorry I started a new three hour thread about the 3GTT without reading through this one first.  With DD I failed the one hour with a 146 but passed the three well within normal limits.  This time I also failed the one hour with a 140 and am sitting through the three hour this morning.  The test obnoxious but if the one hour was accurate for everyone they wouldn't need the three hour I suppose.  My blood sugar has never been high in my life except after these one hour tests.  I have no family history and no symptoms.  I'm doing the test out of an abundance of caution but I was truly shocked when I failed both one hours.  Just goes to show you never know.

I wanted to check back in. I hope everyone is doing well!
Thankfully I passed my 3 hour gtt. It took me reaching out to my OB to find out my results but everything came back fine. Their reasoning for adding an additional 350 grams of carbs is so it isn’t a shock to your body drinking the sugary drink.
My advice for other people is to make sure you bring a snack with you for afterward. My blood sugar took a dive at the last blood draw and I almost passed out on my way home. It’s a long time to go without eating.

Yeah, they decided to give me the glucose test while I was still in the first trimester. The first time (1 hour) I failed by a couple of points so they sent me to get the 3 hour. Passed it just fine. I guess they were thinking I was diabetic because I'm overweight since before getting pregnant.

Just this Wednesday they made take the one hour again. Hope I don't fail that one because I will seriously be peeved to do the three hour one again.

@katester91 I guess I can see that but it still seems weird and like it would skew things. Happy for you that you would passed though!

Seems odd that they would make you take it again. Why not just draw a hemoglobin A1C to see where your levels have been over the last 4 weeks...?

I have the 3 hour tomorrow,  anyone know if I can have water? I get dehydrated easily and will wake up at 6 with my 2 year old and won't do the test until 815 so I'm dreading it if I can't at least drink water!

@bravoandprosecco I was able to drink water up until I drank the glucose. Once I drank it, then no water until after the 3 hours.

@ladybugsamom and @PixieMoxie they look at certain variables to do it early then if you pass you still have to do it again at 28 weeks because that's when your hormones can change to cause you to have GD.
An A1C wouldn't necessarily be accurate because it would show the results for before that change.
I know that it sucks to have to do the test again and seems like time wasted since you have to sit there but it's just another way to keep you and baby safe and make sure you are monitored correctly. That being said, good luck and hopefully you don't have to do the theee hour.

@megpeg I know it's in the best interest for baby's and of course my health. I just hope I pass the first time around so I don't have to go through the 3 hour again. Wish me luck.

I was tested at 8 weeks with this baby as well. My OB wanted to check since I had GD with my first. I failed by just a few points. We’ve been monitoring my sugars since. I’m even seeing an endocrinologist. And each time my sugars start to rise again, we adjust my insulin dosage. We’ve started the monthly growth scans and at the beginning of the year I’ll start the twice weekly NSTs. Not looking forward to that simply because it’s boring and my back always hurt afterward with DS!

Hi all, my 3rd time with GD. Previous pregnancies I did a good job of eating and testing according to plan so was able to stay diet controlled. This time I was diagnosed a lot earlier on in pregnancy (16w) and I have just totally sucked at testing and am probably blowing the diet also. My fastings are great; my postprandials seem totally unpredictable and I've blown a lot of them significantly but since I haven't been really logging them anywhere I don't know what to say to my dietician.

@mintea see if they will do an A1C to check how that is. It will show you how things have been going over the last few weeks.

Ugh, just got my 3-hour results. They were apparently kind of odd? The nurse wouldn't directly say I failed the test, but that I do need to do the diet and education. My fasting was good, something like 78, but my 1-hour draw had me at 119, and then my other draws were something much higher (looking at general ranges those did fail, I guess. She rattled the numbers off pretty quick, one was 160-something).

There's just something unsettling about the nurse going "well, your body is processing sugars weird", lol.

@calecorvus that is weird? Like just come out and say you failed it and have GD or that you don’t?

I go in for my three hour tomorrow morning. Bought a new book so I’ll have something to keep me occupied!

@calecorvus that is a little weird usually they are high at the beginning and settle out more at the end.

    @ShawnnaO Good luck!

I did a bit more poking around and yeah, the delayed spike in levels is definitely not the usual reaction. But then if I'm remembering the numbers for the 2 and 3 hour draws, I did stay high through the rest of the test so I'd have failed anyway (unless their scale is more forgiving than the one I saw on Google, lol. She didn't tell me what their cutoffs were). Something to ask the GD educator I'm going to go see on the 2nd about, at the very least.

So glad to see this post! I failed my one hour and have my 3 hour scheduled for Friday. I definitely cried when they told me I failed, I was really hoping I never would have to drink that drink again! I failed the one hour with my first, but passed the 3 hour... I have horrible acid reflux with this pregnancy and the one hour gave it to me pretty bad. I’m dreading the 3 hour. Praying I can keep the drink down!

Hey all, curious about what youve done/are doing regarding baby showers and food?

My plan for doing panera catering for sandwiches no longer seems as awesome as it did pre-diagnosis, lol.

@calecorvus it was 10 years ago but I had chicken croissants with veggies and fruit and salads at mine and I ate mine on a lettuce wrap so I could eat other things I wanted. . I decided even though the shower was for me it was easier to do something everyone else would enjoy and just deal with it the way I needed to to make it better for me.
