I'm going in Monday night to be induced. My question is I guess for third time or more moms: how much longer does an induced labor last than a natural one? I'm only 1cm dilated so far... So I'm super nervous about just waiting and waiting forever.
@chiknnuggetrubin I don't quite fit the criteria (1 induced labor) but I wanted to give you some encouragement. I was SUPER nervous and scared going into my induction. I was high and tight with maybe 1/2 cm dilated. They had prepared me for up to 48 hours. I had the best induction ever!! 12 hours almost to the minute and only 20 minutes of pushing. GL you'll do great!!!
@chiknnuggetrubin I am only a STM and cannot exactly answer your question. But, I was induced with my first. I started at a 3.5 and only dialated to about a 4 or 4.5 for the first... forever. It wasn't until the night shift nurse came on, who had me move from side to side that I started dialating. However, once they had me flipping, I went from that 4-4.5 to having the baby within 3 hours.
@chiknnuggetrubin STM here, but I was induced with my first. I'll spare you how long it took, but once I got the epidural, I went from 3cm to being ready to push within 8 hours.

I was induced with #2 and #3. I got to the hospital at 7pm for #3 and she was born before midnight.
Thanks y'all! I've just read so many different things about induction taking forever and/or not working at all. I'm not super impatient or anything but you know... it's intimidating! Definitely helps to remember other people do this and it all turns out fine (I'm good at forgetting that.)
@chiknnuggetrubin, I was induced with both DD1, and 2, for various reasons though, in first my bp was rising constantly so they stabilized it and then induced, and during second they thought baby's weight was more than my uterus can handle for more days, i was 38.4 weeks then. Both the times I had cervical stiches so may be that played a role in faster delivery, DD1 was born in 7 hours of induction and DD2 was born in 4 hours of induction... So it really depends on how your body will react, also I feel its easier if its not your first delivery( just my thoughts). Prayers and positive vibes your way for smooth delivery
@chiknnuggetrubin I was induced with DD2 ( I was 2cm and 75% effaced and also 2 day past my due date) I started pitocin at 7:30am and has her at 1:30 pm with only one push. I had a great experience.
DD1: 2/28/12 DD2: 9/12/13 Baby #3: Due January 2018
@chiknnuggetrubin it was 16 hours from foley bulb insertion to baby for me. My current midwives said that’s a pretty typical time frame especially since my body was already moving that direction anyway. Good luck!
They're having me go in at 9pm so I'm guessing they expect it to take a while lol.. I have my last day of work today (I'm a vet tech so I have a very active job). I'm hoping the moving and contorting and lifting will encourage my cervix to open as much as possible. All I know is I get really sore after a full day of work so... I just imagine it's working. Thanks for all the support! We can't believe she'll be in our arms by Tuesday!
@chiknnuggetrubin wishing you luck! Just wanted to add that I was a LONG induction where they started me at night with a cervix ripener (I’m sure they will with you) and the first 10 Hours weren’t bad at all! They offer you sleeping meds too. I ended up taking 37 Hours and pushing for 2.5... my only suggestion is to eat a full meal before you go in I was so starving pushing was hard for me... but 37 Hours lots of pushing and tearing... but guess what? It was STILL an awesome experience. No joke! Good good luck!
Since @EmilyLove25 said how long hers was Mine lasted 40 hours + pushing for 3. Definitely go in with a full meal in your stomach, just in case! Best of luck, hope yours is short and sweet!
I know someone mentioned this a while ago but I don't remember who..... This past week DD has started screaming when we put her to bed (18 months). She is fine for her nap, doesn't even cry. DH suggested last night that we get a nightlite bc maybe she is afraid of the dark....
How do you know your kid was afraid of the dark? Will adding a nightlite make things worst?
Ended up taking about 24 hours to complete and like 2 minutes pushing. There were some harrowing moments. But overall I'm thrilled with the experience. Glad I had some idea of what to expect. Thanks for sharing your stories.
