Selfishly starting this thread this week so that I can some input from you awesome ladies.

My ob started me on a monitored Clomid cycle this month (50mg CD5-9). (I am AMA and have been trying more than 6 months. My ob/gyn gave me a referral to an RE, but she also offered to do a monitored cycle through her office. Since I feel very comfortable with her, I decided to start by doing this). I do ovulate on my own, But I think Clomid is supposed to help with a stronger ovulation. I’m getting all of my usual PMS symptoms so I am pretty sure it’s another unsuccessful cycle.

For those of you who have tried Clomid, what were your next steps when the cycle did not work? Did your OB/Gyn or RE change the dosage amount (from 50 to 100)? Or change the cycle days you take the meds? Or did you switch to another medication?
(I am hoping to hear about your experiences so that I can discuss them at my next appointment. MH says he is not ready to move to the RE yet).

I know our next steps were to increase dosage if, and only if I did not ovulate at all. We were to stay on the same days, 5-9, though. I think the days are usually provider preference, but I've heard of them changing that up as well.

Did you ovulate this cycle (Did they test your progesterone)? What did your ultrasound look like follicle wise? They might just keep you on the same dose if you ovulated...

@dukestar5, I ovulated with my first cycle of 50 mg clomid and my OBgyn had me do another cycle of it. We never discussed what the next step was if I did not get pregnant. I am sorry you are feeling like you are pt this cycle.

I need some insight on hormone levels. I'm doing cycle monitoring and it's annoying that they're not telling me much so I keep peeking at the screen stealthily whenever I can. I will meet with the doctor after the monitoring is done, but I doubt she'll go over the numbers with me in detail.

I'm on CD21 and about to drop an egg. I had a blazing OPK this morning and temp dip. My stats today were a 22mm follicle and 10mm endometrium lining. That seems good and normal to me. However I looked at the screen during bloodwork and saw LH levels slowly going up and at 28 a couple days ago (normal I think and probably way higher today!), but my estrogen has been going up from 20 to 100.... all the way to over 900 two days ago! I'm in Canada so they're probably metric units. Does that sound insanely high?? What could it imply?

@coco2787, I don't have the zip version. I think I had a trial of it years ago, and didn't see where, for me, it was worth the money.

AFM, I have been doing some reading on helping egg quality. I have seen mention of Coq10, any brand recommendations? And DH should take it too, correct?

@coco2787 I have the VIP version of FF. I don't need it at all, but I just wanted to see what it was like. I think the different features are fun to use, but it's definitely not necessary (imo).

@coco2787 I do not have the VIP version either, but I know a lot of ladies on here do. I think the chart overlay feature sounds nice.

@holly321 Coq10/ubiquinol is supposed to help with egg quality and it is particularly encouraged for women in the AMA (35+) group. I take the NOW Ubiquinol 100mg brand from Amazon. Awhile ago @fishsticks-n-custard recommended that brand to me.

@jrm_14 I took Garden of Life Raw Prenatal for quite a while and really liked it. My only real complaint is that I had to remind myself to take it multiple times a day

I only stopped taking it because I think Amazon had a sudden price hike or something like that a while back, and I figured it would be a while before it would make a real *difference* so I switched to Deva for a while. Right now, I'm just taking whatever my sister just gave me that she had hanging out. That said, I will switch back to GoL when this bottle of prenatals runs out if we get a positive from our FET.

@zwink1 That is helpful to know it is more than once daily. The main thing I have against SmartyPants is the lack of iron.

@dukestar5 sorry I don’t remember and see a siggy for you. How far AMA are you and have you had your AMH level tested? Also day 3 FSH?

Personally I would recommend to set up an appointment with the RE and at least take the first consult and get your blood work, saline sono and HSG. Then you can still decide to carry on with more cycles of Clomid if you want and everything else looks good.

There’s a big difference between if you’re AMA with high AMH/ Low FSH (probably no big rush to move onto more invasive treatment) or low AMH/high FSH (probably discuss moving ASAP to more aggressive treatment)

Also depends what insurance cover you have.

And what treatments you are willing to do.

@emmasemm. Thanks for the info! I recently turned 35. All blood work (including CD3, AMH, and 7dpo progesterone check) came back at normal levels. (AMH is 2.59). HSG revealed that tubes are clear.
MH does not want to move to an RE at this point, so we will try probably just 3 cycles of Clomid with my Ob/gyn and then reevaluate. My ob/gyn called Thursday and says she wants to do 100mg for this next cycle. We shall see...

@dukestar5 for what it’s worth, I think you’ve taken the right next step. With that BW and knowing everything is clear (I assume your DHs SA was good too) then sounds like you’re doing everything right.

i would just say don’t get hung up on the name of the doctor - my RE also has ladies on Clomid etc just doing TI. But he says some people are happier knowing that they have built the relationship with him already in case it doesn’t work and they later end up with greater intervention

@emmasemm Thank your support. I know you are a wealth of knowledge and I’ve learned so much from everyone on this board. Personally, I would love to move to an RE because of the more in-Depth knowledge of infertility issues, greater monitoring and also responsiveness to questions and concerns. However, MH is not ready/willing and our relationship/unity is important to me. So for now, we are moving slowly and doing what we can with my ob/gyn.

OPK question!
I'm not yet temping so I know it can be hard to confirm anything. But.. if I got a + OPK on CD 14 (5pm) and + OPK on CD 15 (3pm), when would you consider O to be? Day after the positives, day of first positive or day of second positive?

@kristah2 Only talking from my own experience (I also tend to get two days of +OPK), I would mark the day after the last positive you got to be O day.

@kristah2 Unfortunately it's really hard to say because some people O the day of the 2nd positive and others O the day after a second positive. Are you also tracking CM/CP? That can help to better pinpoint O. If you are, put it all in FF and they will set the most likely O date for you.

@lulu1180 I usually do but my CM has been off due to fever, strep throat and high dose of antibiotics. FF was marking most likely day as 2nd +opk. Ovia is saying day after (today).

@kristah2 +1 for O being the day after my positives. Either way, it's only a day, but I would pick the later date so you're not testing too early...if that makes sense

@kristah2 I O about the second day after the first +opk. I don’t trip anymore, but it happened consistently enough I’m confident enough about it now. Plus 1 for going with an extra day so you don’t test early.

Sorry for bringing an old post back but I think this is the best thread for my question.

If AF shows up in the evening would you count that as CD1 or next day (full day) as CD 1?

@kristah2 I would count that as cd1 even if it comes in the evening (before I go to bed). Anything after I go to sleep I could as the next day.
