I have a midwife appointment on Wednesday. I haven’t been in about 6 weeks so I’m excited for her to go through my anatomy scan with me!
Me: 27 // DH: 30 Married 05/21/2011 TTC Since Feb 2016 RE: Dec 2016 Dx: PCOS 5 rounds of Letrozole 5mg + Ovidrel + TI BFP!!!! June 2017 // EDD: 04/01/2018 IT'S A BOY!
I had by regular Check up with the OB today. It went pretty well, My blood pressure was down from the last appointment where it was high and I need to do a 24 hour urine sample. So that was a huge relief.
In other news, since last month, I think I am on my third UTI, and the doctor said that if the sample that they took from me this morning with my urine turns out to be positive, that they will put me on preventative antibiotics for the rest of the pregnancy.
Backstory: I had a vaginal delivery with my first DD, she is 11 now, and they forgot to deflate the balloon in the catheter that I had with my epidural while I was pushing her out vaginally, so I pushed her out and the long tube for the catheter out with the baby. It has caused all sorts of bladder damage, and to Blatter surgeries to try and repair the damage since then.
In order to not cause further platter damage, my DS was born via C-section after having months of preeclampsia.
So all of this being said, I am more susceptible to UTIs than the average person. My first one was in late October, and I have been having them ever since now. I have been taking cranberry pills. I have been monitoring everything. I definitely wipe front to back always have. My water intake is on-par. So all of this is very frustrating.
He baby is in no danger (which is the GREAT) part due to all of this. But it’s so frustrating knowing that I have been doing everything imaginable to stop these infections for the baby and I can’t seem to do it!
I had an OB appointment today, not very eventful. Everything was good, she decided against the GTT for now. I have to get my Rhogam shot next appointment bleh lol.
I had my 23 week appointment today. Baby is good but was awful! Waited 1.5 hours with 2 kids and medical assistant was rude and cared less. At least baby is ok. 4 more weeks get to do sugar test.
@lesliegolem yeah it went ok. I'm glad I had my water with me (forgot it last time) so I didn't feel to terrible. I was really hungry though and so glad to be done I think I inhaled my granola bar. I'm hoping I passed but I think I might fail because my body forgets how to process sugar when pregnant. Other then that my appointment went great baby boy has a nice good heart beat
Appt with my MFM today. It was supposed to be last Friday but cancelled due to the large amount of snow that came to GA. Excited but nervous..hoping my placenta has moved.
@mikkimikey boo I'm sorry you are stuck on antibiotics for the rest of the pregnancy. I guess on the bright side you will for sure pass the Strep B test?

Yes, true. Because i didn’t with DS 9 years ago. So that’s a bonus!
@mikkimikey ugh, and probably all because the doctor screwed up with the catheter years ago? I’m so sorry, that sucks. The lawyer in me would itching to sue someone, because what a pain in the ass.

Just got back from my 24 week appt. Totally uneventful and it was with my favorite OB, so that was a bonus. She said we’ll schedule my c-section at the next appt! Shit is getting REAL.

Omg I know right! I had a dentist appointment today and had to make a follow up appointment for June. It dawned on me after scheduling that I need to check in with my husband to make sure he can be home to watch a baby. Shit got totally real for me in that moment.
@mikkimikey UTIs suck so bad. I had a similar stretch 2 years ago where I had them constantly and kidney infections along with it. I tried everything and had to take antibiotics with sex everytime hah. But I'm sure it feels even more crappy while pregnant. Hopefully the abx dont have any side effects and you can feel better now!
FTM question. I have a pediatrician appointment tomorrow because Ive heard you should interview a couple and pick one. I have no clue what to even ask. Any advice on what I should be looking for?
@rach-j one thing I asked about at our pediatrician interview was their view on circumcision. I wasn't sure which way I'd be going if we had a boy but I wanted a Dr to be cool and non judgemental. Aka provide the facts without being super biased or jerky. You could ask about vaccine schedules as well. Some Dr's will let their patient choose alternative vaccine schedules. This may or may not be important to you just telling you what I see as possible important issues on my local mommy forum.
Also breastfeeding vs formula if you have a preference you want your pediatrician to be supportive. Lastly I'd look at hours are they open weekends, nights? Can you get a sick visit usually same day that type of thing. I wish i had found a pediatrician open some Saturdays! That's all I can think of good luck!
@rach-j when I was picking pediatricians, I asked them what their thoughts were on vaccinations (I wanted a pro-vaccine doc), flexibility in scheduling (does the practice have other docs or such to take emergent y appts), and other issues you are concerned with. Heck, you would be even justified in throwing out parenting style questions you don't necessarily believe in, but want to test how empathetic and well-thought out their answers are.
For me, I didn't want someone who was dismissive, didn't listen, or was inflexible.
Do you have to have a paediatrician? I’ve never heard of anyone having one here for routine care unless the child has some sort of medical problem. Usually we just take them to the family doctor. I’m in Canada.

Do you have to have a paediatrician? I’ve never heard of anyone having one here for routine care unless the child has some sort of medical problem. Usually we just take them to the family doctor. I’m in Canada.
No it isn't mandatory (at least in USA) that the doc be a pediatrician. But their offices are usually set up to be more kid friendly and less intimidating for a kiddo, and they will know more about childhood-specific stuff than a general practice doc, as well as have newborn vaccines on hand. For example, I would expect a pediatrician to know how to look for possible lip tie and advise about breastfeeding with more,competence than a gen practice doc.
@rach-j I also considered location. Close to daycare? Close to the hospital? In the hospital. Hate that we ever had to use this but DD was so sick (throwing up, dehydrated etc) around 10 months I brought her in on an emergency visit to the pedi and they walked us immediately down to the ER because the office was in the hospital. We were so thankful to have everything we needed all in one spot that day. Yes its likely rare but all the specialists are in the building too, its been wonderful! (nose, allergist etc)
@rach-j agree with all above. Also very important when it comes to feeding. I know when I started looking for one there was one I found that was very much all about breastfeeding (I was planning to formula feed) so having one that was ok with me formula feeding was a high priority. So you want to have one that will support your feeding choices. The one we picked was very much pro-feeding and was able to answer all our questions when it came to formula and never once did she bring up breast feeding. ETA: With the vaccines you could even see if they even see children who aren't vaccined as well. I know when my DD was barely 2 months there were some outbreaks of the measles that were in the news and I was scared because of course my DD couldn't be vaccinated yet for them and my Dr's office said they don't see children who aren't vaccinated. So if that is important to you that will be something to look at.
Has a standard 4-week check up today. Apparently they missed some shots on the anatomy scan, so I have to go back for a repeat. My doctor joked that they always miss something on purpose just to get you back in again. I'm not complaining, it's another chance to see my boy on TV ^_^
Also, not only do I have an anterior placenta, it's low lying as well. We're hoping it resolves itself overtime, but I'll have yet another ultrasound at 30 weeks to check on it.
I finally had my anatomy scan today, and everything looked great! I have been holding my breath somewhat since the 12 week scan, so this feels like a huge relief. Also, I managed to look away at the appropriate time so my husband could have his way - we will open the envelope revealing baby’s sex on Christmas Day.

@vintageandrea90. My youngest sees a family doctor. We like it because if we all get sick with something he can see us all at the same appointment. He also schedules 30 min appts and there is not that rushed feeling when visiting the doctor.
We are not anti vax, our 12 year old is completely up to date. We do follow an alternative schedule with our one year old. Our 12 year old's pediatrician did offer a little wiggle room with an alternate schedule but not much. And we completely understood her stand point.

@allowachick I don't mean to sound ignorant but will that cause any issues your ab muscles being separated or not a big deal?

I know when my DD was barely 2 months there were some outbreaks of the measles that were in the news and I was scared because of course my DD couldn't be vaccinated yet for them and my Dr's office said they don't see children who aren't vaccinated. So if that is important to you that will be something to look at.
