Parenting is hard and exhausting with some really nice moments mixed in. I thought it would be nice to share some of those good moments to keep us going during the tough pregnancy moments.
On Wednesday night, we had our office party. I got home after bedtime. DD2 woke up super early and came to my room to say she loves me and missed me. (See how that overshadowed the super early wake up?)
Also, I got a kid's biography of Keith Haring at the library and it was really fun to read our with DD1. Her eyes were just lighting up at so much of it.
During our AS yesterday, DS came with us and asked, "Mommy, are you doing okay?" about halfway through. He also told the doctor (also my uncle)"Uncle Marc, don't hurt my baby sister."
I love toddler responses to all things baby... we had a check up on Tuesday and DS came, he always gets concerned when the midwife examines me and asks “mama, hurt?” He gets excited when we hear sister’s heart beat, then pulls up his shirt and goes “me?” Like we will find a baby heart beat in his belly too...
but the new and hilarious (to me) thing was, as we pulled out of the parking lot he goes “bye sister! Bye baby sister!” ha... doesn’t quite get it yet!
I have such a sweet daughter. She’s so cuddly and loving. She tells me every day “I love you mommy” followed by a big hug or kiss. She comments on the baby in my belly and says she wants to rock the baby and feed the baby. It’s heart melting. She did say something really funny today “the baby in mommy’s belly is human”. Haha. Sure hope so! (I’ve been teaching her the word human for whatever reason so she’s applying it to every person).
When he was a baby and would reach up for us to hold him, we would ask, "do you want me to hold you?" So now any time he wants us to hold him, he says, "Hold you, mommy?" We also have a morning routine. H takes him to daycare because I have to be at work an hour earlier. When I leave I stand at the door and we say our goodbyes. I open the door, he asks, "Where's the moon?" I tell him it's sleeping. He then says, every time, "Maybe later we find it" and I say, "Yes, love. Later we will find the moon." and I go to work. It's something sweet just between us that helps me get through the day.
Yesterday morning DS says “Mom, you know what? I closed my eyes and fell asleep and all my best friends were there. Even you and daddy! And there were no strangers or bad guys.”
i just thought it was cute that he called us his best friends! And that he was dreaming about us.
I thought this was a sarcastic Awesome Parenting Moments, so I was all set to let y'all know that my 4 year old informed me that since we haven't bothered to put up any Christmas lights, he's moving in with the neighbors because "their house is all sparkly and our house is ugly."
But let's see, awesome.... same kid also told me he was going to marry me when he grew up. Dad and DS1 can live with us too. And the other kid is planning on buying me an orange race car, and invited me to ride the train he's going to conduct when he grows up whenever I want. So I'm pretty well set up for life.
My awesome moment was last night cooking dinner, DS (who is almost 21 months) came up and hugged my leg and said "I love you mama"...first time he used "I love you" in the proper context all by himself.
I just love how my girls play together now! They are 2.5 and 5 and that little one just wants to do everything big sis does. I also love how they come craw in bed with us and cuddle in the mornings... it’s the best!
DS is a real sweetheart, but for some reason he only hugs people around the head. I wonder if his experience has told him that a hug means holding them to your chest. Still, I love it when he stands on my lap, leans into my face, and wraps his arms around my head.

Our twins share a room and are in toddler beds. They have been a handful at bedtime, but last night they came running into our room holding hands and it was the sweetest thing. DS normally will only hold our hands, but he was smiling ear to ear holding his sister's hand. We let them stay in our room for at bit after that. It hit me right in the feels.
Ds1 said he wants to be Santa when he grows up. He said I can be Mrs. Clause (we shall address this soon!), dh can be an elf and ds2 can be a reindeer. Love the laughs they bring.
@k5678 I was thinking we might need a companion post for the other 95% of what happens when you're a parent. Maybe our 4 year olds can get an apartment together. On Halloween, I was told that if I made mine brush her teeth before bed she would go live by herself. I told her to make sure she left her address.
@crazyliblady I've known a few kids who hug like that since they always get hugs like that.
J has developed this habit of when he’s really upset or overly tired he just throws himself on me like a Disney princess on a bed sobbing. It’s sweet because he always wants mommy to cuddle him better when his emotions are too big.
My son woke up at like 630 yesterday morning, so he laid in bed with us for an hour or so watching Mickey, while I turned over to close my eyes longer. He put his arm around my neck and said "I love you." It melted my heart.
BTW - love this board. It's a positive reminder of why all of the hard times are worth it (and pregnancy haha).
My 4 year old DS is going through this phase where he just breaks into insane laughter over every thing. Paired with my 6 year old DD new obsession with knock knock jokes (but not always a great understanding of what makes them funny) there is a lot of laughter happening at our house lately!
Our 2.5 year old son is going through a phase where in an attempt to avoid going to sleep at bedtime, he smothers us with kisses and says ‘I love you so much’ repeatedly. It’s adorable, I’m eating up every second.
He also peed all over ‘the green’ in the middle of the golf store yesterday, which had me completely flustered in the moment, but now I can’t stop laughing. What a kiddo, the joys of parenthood
I keep laughing at this one. We went to get the girls boots this weekend. Our friend was with us. He was checking DD2's shoes to see if they fit and was pressing on the shoe. He asked, "is this your toe?" she said yes. He said, "wiggle it" so she stated dancing/wiggling her booty. LOL he said, through laughing, "I meant wiggle your toe."
DS (2.5) and I went outside to play in the snow the other day. Later that day he came up to me, gave me a big hug, and said, "Thank you for playing in the snow with me, Mommy! I had a fun day with you! I love you!"
When DS says "I love you, Mommy" it makes my heart melt every time! It's the best!!
My daughter started walking a few weeks ago and the sweetest thing in the world is when she walks towards me with her arms wide open and a giant smile on her face and gives me a big hug.
DD (22 months) came to see me in the hospital today. She walked in my room and yells “HEY MAMA! Miss you!” and gave me a big hug. Then she lifts up my shirt and goes “sissy okay?” I told her yes and she kissed my belly. She also pointed to all my IVs etc and had to check out my “ouches”. I’ve been missing her so much lately and she got right in my feels.
