  • @krashke we did the snowmen last year and a bump bust one too- can't find a picture of it.

  • @MoonOverGoldsboro @jsl82 - Yeah, I have to go to the radiology department for all of my u/s's and any regular (read: not genetic screening) blood work I have to go to the lab -- but even so, they should know what an NT scan is and be able to order it if someone is asking. And like you said, @jsl82 - my window for having it done is closing, which is why I made sure I stopped by personally while I was working next door, because I figured it'd be as easy as saying I want it done and getting an order put in and printed for me to pick up.

@doxiemoxie212 - If I call the outside/regular number, I get the call center, which has 2 people who answer for the practice, neither of which are nurses. If something's wrong, they'll send the call to the triage nurse, but if it's non-urgent, they put a message in my chart that I called, why, and send it to the Women's Health office. If I call the inside/inter-staff number, I get one of the two ladies who are actually working in the office up front/check-in. Same process there -- urgent calls would go right to the nurse, non-urgent ones would get a message put in.
The patient portal messages are supposed to be sent directly to the nurses, who review them and talk to the doctor, and send the message back (usually within 1-2 business days). But, I was told they're being sent to the call center (which they're not, but okay), and mine was "lost in the cyber world"... Conveniently.
It's all just a whole pile of stuff adding up at this point, haha. I work as a float to cover the front end positions, and the call center positions, so I know what's going on and where messages are sent and what the process is, and I know patient portal messages are sent to the nurses (whom are all awesome people; they're the only ones I'll hate leaving), so I didn't like being told that's not the case when... yes... it is.

    But yeah. Sorry for ranting.

@krashke - Ugh. Our offices sound so similar. I'm sorry you're being screwed around, too! I wasn't dead-set on what hospital I'd rather deliver at anyway, but was really hoping that I'd be able to deliver at the hospital that this practice is in, because it's where H was born and he was really excited about that. But even he doesn't feel comfortable with me staying at this practice after the conversation I had with the NP. I know there's incompetent people at every office, and I could handle that, but if I'm constantly being pushed off on the one truly-incompetent one, and then being told by her that I shouldn't know anything because I've never been pregnant before and nursing school doesn't tell me what I'm going to have done.... sorry, but, I'll pass. That's like telling someone that doing their own research on something is useless and they should go with whatever the doctor says because they're the doctor.. Which I don't agree with.
I've thought about going with a midwife, but only 1/3 of the practices in my area have midwives, and they're (of course!) not covered by my insurance. There's only one midwife who pars with my insurance, but I'm not sure if I want to call her or not.

Re: bump ornaments --- I'm a sucker for Etsy, but haven't searched in depth for any bump ornaments. Definitely worth looking in to though!

    --
I called my insurance to see if they par with the two other OB practices in my area, and they do, so I called both of them.
One office needs me to send my medical records before they can set up an appointment (which will take about a month in my experience with our medical records department and the third-party-hosts that they use for the records), so I'm holding off on that one for now. This was the office a co-worker and his wife went to for their care, and had a great experience, but I wasn't too sure on the L&D floor because I've heard some bad stories from others.
But the other office got me in for a new OB appt on this coming Monday! She was talking about needing an ultrasound, and testing, and just kind of talking out loud while she was going through the schedule, but it really made me feel more comfortable knowing they're at least going to be thinking about those things. This was the office that my SIL went to for all 3 of her boys, and she loves the practice and everyone she came across. And the hospital I'd be delivering at would be the one I kind of fell in love with from when she had my nephews.

Okay, super long AW/response post is over. Thank you all for responding with advise/thoughts/experiences! I definitely appreciate it!

  • I had the pain high up from BD before pregnancy and usually it was linked to not preheating the oven ;) Team vibrator ladies! We were going to wait longer but I started having crazy orgasm dreams and DH can’t stay away from the fuller boobs so we crossed that line a while ago.
  • Ok ladies - I finally Googled what the hell BD was supposed to stand for.  I got the impression it stood for sex, but could not for the life of me figure out what the words were.   Baby Dance.  Gotcha.  I'll stick to saying sex.  LOL

  • So this isn't entirely baby-related, except that it's occurring while I'm pregnant hence making me way more freaked out. I went to a dermatologist today to get a weird mole checked out and he said it was super suspicious and did a biopsy and was talking about the likelihood of Melanoma. They said the surgery for melanoma is safe during pregnancy but I'm still really nervous. Has anyone had a procedure like this done before? I know I shouldn't catastrophize but they seemed overly concerned.
  • @katie121209 I have not, but I will say that oftentimes doctors use the term "surgery" to be anything a surgeon has to do even if it's NBD. For instance, I have a small bump on my neck that looks a little like a blackhead, and it's very small and not noticeable, but I asked my dermatologist about it anyway. She said, "Well, it's not a blackhead, it's a (I forget the actual term, but basically a keratin -- like what's in your hair -- plug). If you want to get it removed, I can refer you to a surgeon." The mention of a surgeon freaked me out, but in retrospect it probably was NBD.

FX it's benign or that if it is malignant, that it's super easy to get rid of!
  • @katie121209 - There are generally two types of "surgeries" they'll perform. One is a quick freeze while you're in the office to get the spot off and have it sent for a biopsy. My mum has them done almost every time she goes to the dermatologist - it's easy, painless, and quick. If it comes back that it's benign, nothing else needs to be done. If it comes back malignant, then you'll end up going for the second, more invasive surgery.
The second is also relatively easy, though. You'd get a local anesthetic wherever the spot is, and they'll take layers of your skin off at a time, have it sent to the lab for testing, and then stop taking layers off once it comes back that there's nothing but regular skin there. Depending on how far down it goes, you could leave with barely a mark, or you could leave with a decent hole. My mother had a spot on the top of her head that had to be removed this way, and they went through quite a few layers before it was deemed gone. But, she also put off going to the dermatologist for years, knowing that she had something wrong, but not wanting to face the music.

  • @katie121209 I remember my OB telling me that it was safe while pregnant to have moles removed.  As @izza2 said they will likely have to take a few layers to make sure that they get it all to prevent future procedures if there is an issue.  I had one removed from my shoulder as a kid.  They numb it up, take what they need (it’s quick) and then you get a few stitches.  It definitely sounds way scarier than it is.  FX it’s nothing!
  • @katie121209 Sorry you're dealing with this. I've only had a small benign mole removed. That procedure was just a quick scrape. I'm sure it was scary to hear them mention melanoma. Have you been to this doc. before? Some docs are just more apt to verbalize worst case scenarios. How soon will you get the results?

  • Thanks ladies. Today was a shave biopsy and I'm supposed to get the results back in a week. This is the first time I've seen this dermatologist, they are a Mose specialty center, but yeah hopefully they are just being more worst case scenario than it really is. It was on the back of my leg so I'm hoping it's relatively early if it's bad, but I never really look at the back of my leg so it's hard to tell!
  • @katie121209 fx all comes back ok! I'm sure it'll be a long week. My niece is due in a month and just had a mole removed in the office.
I have 2 moles I reeeeaaally need to go get checked. I'm embarrassed to say how long I've put it off.

  • @katie121209 FX for benign results!  Any type of procedure is 100% scarier when pregnant, but hopefully it's just the pregnancy hormones making the mole look worse than it is.

@kraske, that's about the same age as my niece. I picked out a little magnetic drawing board built into a lap desk thing. Found it at Target. Was looking for something craft based but not messy, since this sounded like something she didn't have already. My MIL got her markers when she was 14 months, which turns out is a terrible idea and I had marker all over my house. Don't know WTF she was thinking with that one.
