I'm trying to think of J names for a boy. DS is John. I don't love the name James, but it's okay. I REALLY dislike the nickname Jimmy that often comes with the name James. First of all, what do you think of Jameson? I would probably try to call him Jameson, but would be okay with James as a nickname. Do you think I can avoid the NN Jimmy with this name/NN combo?
In the family, we already have Justin, Josh, Jason, Jonathon, Jaxsen, and John.
Jameson makes me think of whiskey and I think James is better with John. I wouldn’t worry about Jimmy as a nickname. I’ve known James’ who never went by Jim or Jimmy. Assuming you want a J name you could also use
My nephew is James and has never gone by anything else. But, I would avoid a name you really hate NN too but they just happen sometimes... I don’t mind Jameson but prefer James.
DS is James. DH abhors the nn Jimmy, so no one calls him that. Unless he one day decides he wants to go by Jimmy, I don't think you'll run into an issue. People will generally call your kid what you want them to.
I agree with others that Jameson seems trendy and makes me think of the whiskey
I went to school with a Jamison. I’m 32, btw. He went by Jamie and is a newscaster now! I never associated it with the whiskey when I was younger, but now I obviously do a little. However, he has a successful career in the public eye with the name. It’s not that bad, IMO. If you like it, go for it. I wouldn’t consider Jimmy a nn automatically for the name.
ETA correct spelling as his name just came on the TV screen! I think I like the “I” better than the “e.”
Honestly, it seems like you have enough J names in the family already. I would choose another classic name (no J):
Robert Peter Henry Paul Philip Andrew Daniel
and Jameson is either the whiskey or the chosen last name of the most famous porn star of all time.
Oh, I know! We definitely do! I would like to do a classic non J name but DH's family has a tradition of naming boys J names. I'm trying to see if there's any J names I like. We'll see. Maybe this baby will be a girl and we won't have to worry about it.

Jameson= alcohol to me. So I would honestly kind of assume his parents were partyers. It's just where my mind goes.
I think it works if that association doesn’t bother you. I think James could work too - just call him James and have others follow suit.
Suggesting: Julian, Joel, Jasper, Jerome
