Crazy Skin

First of, I searched to see if there was a thread devoted to skin care but didn’t see anything so if there is can someone just post it here.

I usually have really low maintaince skin but pregnancy does a number on me. My face is super dry and breaking out in these super slow forming zits.

Meanwhile, my chest is super greasy and I have a serious case of boob acne.

Has anyone found products that help with problem pregnancy skin?

I've been using the Alba Botanica Hawaiian Detox volcanic clay cleanser (and sometimes also the scrub) and it's been working well. If I have an active breakout I use the Origins Clear Improvement charcoal mask, which is amazing and I've been hooked on it since high school for really clearing things out. I also use the First Aid Beauty radiance pads that @dee_ao mentioned every night (I cut them in half so they last longer), and they're awesome.

  • @dee_ao I picked up a small pot of that Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Cream recently when I was going on a trip and wanted something easy to travel with, and I really like it too! I really hate creams that leave my face feeling at all greasy or heavy and that stuff absorbs really well.
  • I basically  have zero care for skin care products other than basic cleaners and makeup removers. I have noticed that I tend to get a chin zit after every workout because when I took a week off, I had none and was jacked. Then I hit the gym and a day later felt a new zit coming and then saw it the next day. It's odd because I come home, shower, and use face wash after every workout.
  • I’ve been using CeraVe - it’s done wonders. I also use the gel moisturizer by Clinique which is great because it keeps my skin hydrated without breaking it out.

...but as a disclaimer I haven’t actually checked with my midwife to make sure they are safe to use in pregnancy.
  • @thunderberry yes! Same here, my face retaliates as soon as I use anything too heavy.
  • @dee_ao I love the fresh soy cleanser!!
  • Good idea in starting this!

I just came from a derm appointment. My face has been SO bad for the last few months and I’ve been fighting for an appointment with a derm because my doctors response was “keep your face clean, don’t eat chocolate and sleep”... cool. Thanks.

Heres what I discussed with my derm and what I’m using:

she prescribed Azelac acid cream which helps the redness and inflammation. Benzoyl perioxide as a spot treatment. Both of these morning and night and if drynss comes up from the BP skip a day. I have actually started using BP since last Wednesday and have seen a dramatic change! I have also been using clyndamyicin solution on and off since my period returned (6 months ago) It’s a topical antibiotic but she doesn’t think that will necessarily help what I’m dealing with now- but could be good for some of you dealing with this.
As far as over the counter cleansers/products, stick with no fragrance, paraben free and the least ingredients possible. Stuff with pregnancy safe exfoliants are great at removing the excess oils and helping new skin come through.

Hoping “the glow” comes in and i stop looking like a 15 year old boy that has his head stuck in a sweaty helmet.
  • @pandakov I have been using CeraVe and it doesn't seem to help me much. But I was using prescription stuff before getting KU.

@mileswithmyles Have you ever tried Murad? It’s s little more expensive (I believe 30 bucks a bottle) but I’ve had success with it in the past when I’ve had hormone related break outs.
  • @pandakov I haven't, but I might.  I also have a Sephora coupon, so I might try some of the products @dee_ao suggested.
  • @mileswithmyles good luck. I hope you find something that works! I feel your pain. With my first two pregnancies my skin was out of control. I had cystic acne near my temples. It was awful. Freaking hormones.
  • @dee_ao I didn’t even think to go get a consult at Sephora. It makes me a little nervous I will leave spending an arm and a leg but I guess I will just consider it my Christmas present to me!

Anyone using a product a different product to address the boob acne? I don’t think I will be asking the nice people at Sephora about that.
  • @hotmessmamax3 I feel you on that. The consultant that helped me really didn't push a lot of things on me, but I also knew I wanted a whole new regiment so maybe he didn't feel the need to.

I would go ahead and ask about the boob acne because they do have lines and products for the body.
Also, I received an online coupon for Sephora valid until Dec 13  2017Reward.  It'll give you up to $20 off a purchase of $50 or more. I don't know if you have to be a Sephora VIB, but I shared it with my friend and she was able to use it.
  • @dee_ao thank you for your recommendations! I am having a terrible time with my skin and will look into the products that worked for you.
  • I have had random acne flareups wth this pregnancy but oddly enough I've also had a few people complement my skin too (I don't see what they see lol)
I mainly just use Beautycounter products. The are free from harmful chemicals, gentle and very effective.
I've been using them for over a year now and a few of my favourites are the Nourishing cleanser, the charcoal bar and charcoal mask (great for detox and acne), and the face oils. Sounds weird to put oil on your face but through have actually been amazing. My skin is clearer, I don't use any other lotion and it feels so nice.
Anyway it's a great company and it's safe for pregnant ladies. In full disclosure, I'm technically a consultant with them but I'm not looking for business or sales. I only do it to get discounts for myself and the help others to learn about switching to safer products. I was appalled the learn about how bad some products are. (Check out www.ewg.org/skindeep to see how your products rate for safety and if there are any hormone, endocrine, cancer or fertility risks/concerns. Type in bio oil and you'll be shocked). I'd be happy to share more information on ingredients or provide recommendations to any one interested.

  • I just use Yes to Cucumber face cleanser and Yes to Cotton daily moisturizer. I just make my own face scrub too. I just use a little bit of coconut oil and brown sugar and add a squeeze of fresh lemon to help even out skin tone. Also you can try adding a bit of baking soda to your regular face wash and it will help balance the pH in your skin too. And laying a hot washcloth on your face for a few minutes before putting on any lotion will help open your pores quite a bit and help the lotion get a little bit deeper in your skin. (As well as soften those horrible pimples!)
@suchaglencoco have you tried keeping face wipes in your gym bag and wiping down mid workout or at least right afterward?
