What exactly do you reply to someone when they find out what you're naming your LO (we don't outright tell but we don't keep it a secret either) and they message you saying she was just telling her husband she liked the name and didn't realize that's what we were naming our babe! Let me add that this is DH's cousin's wife and they are not currently expecting. They don't live nearby but we see DHs aunt weekly! Do I just say thank you? It didn't sound like a compliment, which is why I feel the need to ask y'all what the appropriate response is lol
@leeeahyo That's what I would say. I'm all about leaving it simple especially if it didn't feel like a compliment.
My random: August is up. WHAT?! How are people finding out they are having August babies?! Also, that makes us second from the top and I just can't handle that. I feel like we are so "old" now. Hahaha
@leeeahyo my go to passive aggressive comment is "cool." So I'd just say that. bahaha.
@lmmjd I saw that today. I usually peek through the other boards because I'm so bad at coming up with my GTKY for the Monday ticker thread and was like "wait... what?" and then I saw the December board someone was like "2 weeks till due date." and I was like HOLY CRAP WE REALLY ARE SOOO CLOSE TOO.
And the birth announcements are going to start posting here like crazy.... Which is exciting but selfishly, eeks, this kid just cannot come early, I'm so not ready. Deep breaths, Don't panic!
Those super early boards are so annoying. Just a bunch of threads like, "does this symptom sound like I'm pregnant?" and "ooh, I'm so sure this is going to be my month to get pregnant."

August? What?!? Guys...I have less than four weeks until I'm due. How is that even possible? This weekend, DH and I worked on the last items on our "to-do" list (went shopping for hospital bag essentials, cleaned the infant car seat, bought the last-minute things off of our registry), so we're physically ready for this baby to come. But mentally? I'm not even close!
So excited right now because DH might be coming around to my favorite first name for LO (Livia)! At dinner I asked him if he calls her by any name when he thinks about her. He said yes and told me to guess. I guessed Georgia because that was the one name he mentioned months ago when we first talked names. He was like no and I was like just tell me because I don't even know what to guess. Then he said Livia! I couldn't believe it! He said when he thinks of names he always comes back to that one and that my plan of periodically calling her Livia is working on him! Seriously, on my drive home from the doctor's appointment today I had even told LO that I needed to stop calling her Livia because otherwise I'll never be able to call her anything else and her dad hasn't agreed to it yet. It's not official but I'm getting my hopes up that he might agree and I'll get to name her the name I've wanted to name my daughter since I was in middle school!
@kelk5 that is awesome! I was so happy when we both finally agreed on a name!
I have two things: 1. How would you respond to family members who are disagreeing about your decision to or to not to circumcise your child? I’d like to say it’s none of your business, but DH and I did not agree for a while. Now we do and it seems like no one likes our decision (not that it matters, but I just don’t want to talk about it or for it to be awkward).
2. I have been taking the same prenatals this entire pregnancy because they were the easiest to tolerate. I bought a new bottle a few days ago, same brand, and it’s a struggle. All I smell is fish, I’m dry heaving each time, and dreading prenatal time. I’m debating whether this is a new fun third trimester symptom or if this is a bad bottle. It stinks so bad. I have to wash my hands 3-4 times afterward and then put on a strong smelling lotion.
Just have to share the convo I had with my gram today. She will be 80 on Wednesday. She and I are very close and talk almost every day. She wanted an update on how my appt went so I told her what the visit entailed and that OB did a cervical check. Nothing exciting. Half cm dilated and some effacement. Baby is head down. She says- Well (pout sounds) what does that even mean?! Are you going to go into labor? How much longer is this going to be did he say?! (More pout sounds). Haha she is super excited for this baby to get here and needs to chill. Also, she doesn’t understand the head down business since she had both of her children breech. She thinks they ought to let women have babies breech like they did in the 60s because it ‘saves the head’. Oh my. I can’t even.
@Dani0329 I would have DH smell it. That sounds bad, but also my sense of smell has drastically upped since I've been pregnant. I have only threw up once this whole pregnancy, but now I feel like I can smell better than my dog. It drives me insane. I've never wanted to not smell more in my entire life lol. Also about the circumcision, me and DH were in agreement the whole time, and I think we are both lucky to have more traditional parents who are in favor of our decision. However I know the debate for anything over your kids is crazy these days. Vaccinate or don't vaccinate, circumcise or don't, there's no grey area it seems with these things. Well I guess with circumcision there can't be lol, but really any decision like that is to be made by the parents of the child, not for by standers, imo. Also if people keep trying to get you to engage in conversation about your unborn son's penis, that's a little weird and you should say so to them. That would probably shut them up fast haha

@Dani0329 I would politely say, “Oh, that is interesting. I’ll
think about it” and then completely ignore whatever they said! If these people are offering unsolicited opinions on serious/personal matters, they aren't likely to cave to you offering explanations. True, you could say, "well, this is my decision" etc. but I've always found it best to not engage. I just had a similar situation with my MIL who is adamant I go to a chiropractor to stop my vomiting/also convinced it's food poisoning (it's been happening for about 30 weeks, lol). I just said, "OMG that's a great idea! I'll look into it." (I won't).
@Dani0329 IMO it's none of their business if you circumcise or not...and it would be awkward I think in general if that came up in conversation. It's not normal conversation to bring up, but I feel the same about people asking me if I'm breastfeeding... I'd say not to worry what others think but if they are constantly asking about it or saying things about it, it would definitely get under my skin. Also, weird my prenatals have been smelling fishy this bottle too! I'm not sure what the deal is with that.
OMG.. Y'all..I went in for an ultrasound and another patient came in to drop off Christmas presents for the staff. Umm... this is my first baby... Do I need to get my OBs staff Christmas presents? I mean I guess it makes sense I've seen them twice weekly forever now.... is this a thing?!
Y'all I'm ready for this week to be over. We have workers over at our house today to demo our master bathroom. It's been half torn apart for like a year and we finally caved and decided to spend the money to have the demo finished. We're not doing a full reno right now, we just need to fix some water damage and make the bathroom functional again and DH keeps putting it off so whatever, we'll just spend the money. But of course now they're telling us that our water heater is about to go (it's rusted out and bubbling at the top) and when they went to shut the water off to the house they noticed 6 inches of water around the valve which means a leak at the main which we're not sure if we'd be responsible for or if it's the city/county's problem.
I just want to go home and sleep because that's what I do when I'm stressed but I can't because I was out so much last week and even if I said screw it, the workers are going to be at the house all day so it's not like I'd actually be able to sleep.
@EmilyLove25 I like your style I'm from the south and I didn't think that was a thing...but I have also heard of people buying their nurses that deliver the baby gifts. I just don't really have time or energy to put forth that effort.
@Dani0329 agree with others, it's no one else's business what goes on with your son's genitals. I think if I were approached (thankfully haven't been yet!) I'd just straight up tell them it's our decision and to please stay out of it.
@ryannenikole If you're buying something for it, I've gotten a good response to a gift bag with a cute mug, tea/cocoa/coffee, biscotti, and some 'fancy' thing like dusting cocoa or cinnamon or those spoons with chocolate that melt into your drink. TJ Maxx ftw.
Or, ya know, scratch-offs and liquor. Depends on your crowd.
Thanks for the advise everyone! My sister told me she will feel sorry for our son. Then we were playing catch phrase and her and one of her friends made a joke to get the answer based on what they thought about our decision. I am angry and hurt and trying not to care but it’s tough. I’ve heard some comments from several close family members.
@Dani0329 well that's just plain rude IMO! I still think you stick to whatever yall decided before because it is YOUR decision not theirs and you have to live with it, not them. And why does it bother her so much what your kids sex life will be like?! Does she feel the need to discuss that topic too? I hate you have to deal with that! You might could pull a pregnant blow up about your feelings being hurt and being allll emotional and then maybe they wont say anything else I'd probably say something super hurtful though and get in trouble for that so that may also not be your best advice!
@Dani0329 at this point after already hurtful comments I would be very blunt “the decision has been made. It’s none of your business. Since when do you think it’s OK to discuss what is going on with anyone’s genitals that are not your own in public?” I’m sorry your family is being difficult.
@Dani0329 Hugs. That would really upset me too. I'm sorry you have to deal with that. I'm sure they believe they are being funny... feel free to vent away on here!
@dani0329 I️ agree with everyone - no one’s business but you, DH, and DS. It’s hard to come to a decision as a couple. Try to find solace in the fact that you and DH made an intentional decision together and not all couples can get there without resentment or second guessing.
and, if needed, feel free to borrow my favorite line: “what you’re saying right now says a lot more about you than it does about me (and my unborn son’s penis).”
shuts people up EVERY time. And if it doesn’t, their defensiveness will make it clear just how out of line they are!
@Dani0329 that is ridiculous that they are even discussing it. It's your and DH's decision. I would probably make a comment that it's weird for an aunt (or other relative) to be so interested in her nephew's penis. Make her feel uncomfortable and then she might shut up.
I keep checking out the December birth stories/announcements.
Also, I randomly decided to try out my Spectra last night and 3 seconds in and colostrum started coming out. I’m impressed by the suction power already. I turned it off after a few seconds bc I got a little paranoid it might cause contractions
So...speaking of breast pumps...I still can't get mine ordered yet (have to wait until 30 days before EDD...annoying). It's been mentioned on some threads but wasn't sure if we had one discussing it. Is there one people love or love vs. another if you have had or tried multiples? Rants or raves about one or the other? Works better when working vs. at home?
Edit to add: Should this be a thread by itself? Breastfeeding tips or tricks something like that?
My coworkers are discussing taxes and food stamps and I just can't even. I dont necessarily disagree with everything they're saying, but I can't.
As to the family issues, I'm so sorry. There are things I am just keeping to myself unless someone NEEDS to know. Vaccine status, whether or not my son is circumcised, etc. Even how I plan to give birth! It's nobody's business but my own.
I agree with OP about keeping opinions to yourself. Whether or not I chose to circumcise my son, vaccinate him, breastfeed him, baby wear him, etc. is my own business. It is on a need to know basis only.
@Dani0329 I’m sorry your family are being jackssses about this. I casually mentioned to my mom that we weren’t going to circ, bc she’d figure it out when she changed a diaper and I figured it was easier to just mention it, she seemed confused but thankfully hasn’t said anything else about it. As long as you abdcyiur DH are on the same page that’s literally all that matters. Re nurse gifts: I’m planning to go to Sam’s Club and grab snacks, throw them in a basket and have DH leave them at the nurses station. It’s not expected, but all my nurse friends have said how much they appreciate the snacks and it won’t cost much/be time consuming so I figure it’s an easy way to say “thanks for putting up with me I will probably be annoying at some point in this process”. I did the same thing when my dad was in the icu before he passed away, the nurses were so nice and made a truly sh!tty time as easy as it could be, it seems like I should do the same thing when it’s a happy time lol. @gusgus14 who is responsible will depend on where the line break is located, if it’s on your property there’s a high chance it’s your responsibility (trenching the yard to access the line can be one of the more expensive components of the process), if it’s out farther and under the city owned portion then you may get lucky.
You are all so right! I think I am just going to make them feel uncomfortable if it is brought up again! Thanks for the love! I was feeling a bit ganged up on!
I want to make a nurse treat bag for when we go, let me know what y’all are doing!
This morning one of my employees was stretching and trying to touch his toes. He is one of my employees that we razz alllll the time so I joked with him and said dude really you can't even touch your toes, I'm pregnant and pretty sure I can still do that. So I stood up and reached over and lo and behold I was able to touch my toes (which felt amazing for my back PS). He lost his mind and we all just started busting out laughing haha! Not bad for 36 weeks and change, but I find it funny that I struggled to get my tights and boots on this morning!
Well, it is 8:58 AM and I am plotting what I'll get for lunch. I've had two days of not puking, so I am feeling ambitious... Oh and at 36 weeks pregnant I hope no one thinks I was put together enough to PACK a lunch. That's a whole lotta nope. Hmm...
I feel super gross and cannot wait to take a shower. The plumber is supposed to be at the house at 2 to inspect the bathroom and hopefully fix the pipe that the workers cut yesterday. DH tried to patch it enough to get us water for a little while last night but it didn't work so I haven't showered since Monday. Bleh.
@EmilyLove25 - I brought a PB&J for lunch but I'm probably about to eat it because I'm really hungry which means I'll end up eating out for lunch for the 3rd time this week. No clue what I want though! I've had fast food Japanese the last two days and it sounds good again but I don't know.
@EmilyLove25 I have cinnamon roll oatmeal in my desk and I’m about to tear into it, and it’s our “holiday week” at work so it’s pizza salad and breadsticks for lunch courtesy of the company. Please believe I’m going to load up on that shizz....free and carbs? Yes please. @gusgus14 DH makes fun of me bc I can seriously eat the same thing for weeks on end before getting tired of them, he mostly can but needs to rotate things every few days. I’ve been on a gyro and hummus kick lately that I’m thoroughly enjoying haha!
