January FET

Hello ladies,

It has been awhile since I’ve been on these boards but have been lurking lately and didn’t see a January FET board yet so I thought I would get one going!

Little background here... after a few failed IUIs in 2016, DH and I had IVF in Feb 2017. I was super anxious to have a fresh transfer but I was high risk OHSS so we did a freeze all with the thought we would have our first FET in April but life got busy and we kept pushing it back. But we are finally ready to get back on track and hopefully have our first FET in January.

I am am currently waiting for AF which should be here in the next few days and then I will start BCP for a few weeks and then start prepping for the transfer! Will probably be a long 6-8 weeks but I’m hoping the holidays will help pass the time.

Hope to see a few more join in and FX that we all start 2018 with sticky embabies and BFPs!

Re: January FET

  • Hello!

We're planning our FET for mid/late January.  We have one frozen PGS tested embryo created with an egg from my sister.  This is a sibling attempt--my daughter will be 8 months old when we do the transfer.  She was a sort of surprise baby conceived 3 weeks after a failed FET with apparently my ovaries' last hurrah (very low ovarian reserves because of heavy chemo use a few years ago and genetic issues). We are in a time crunch because my ovaries were supposed to be removed by age 40, and I just passed that milestone last month.

So excited to finally get going on this!  Our good friends just did a FET and had a positive beta this past week and we are really hoping for the same result.  It would be awesome to be pregnant together!
Me: Age 40  Husband: Age 41
Chemo killed my ovaries (along with a BRCA1 mutation, which causes DOR)
4/30/13 ER just prior to chemo: 8 embryos frozen at 2pn. 2 survived to blasts/1 PGS normal

    4/16 ER cancelled on CD7: 1 follicle on L/ 0 follicles on R
    FET #1  7/13/16  BFN

    Super shocker +HPT 9/19
    Baby Alyce arrived 5/8/17

Went forward with donor eggs from my sister for baby #2
ER 4/24, 5 eggs fertilized/1 survived to blast and was chromosomally normal.

    FET 2/15 (my sister/donor's birthday!).  Beta 10dp5dt:172; beta 12dp5dt: 425

  • @PNW12RN glad we’ll be in this together! That is so great that you have a sister that could make this happen. And it would be so great if you and your friend were pregnant together.

Speaking of sisters, my sister is partially responsible for getting me back on track with my FET. She just announced her *tw* 3rd pregnancy and it really got me wanting to get back on track. My embryos have been frozen for almost 10 months now. DH and I are currently discussing if we want to transfer 1 or 2. We opted out of PGS testing due to the cost. I am leaning towards 2 at this point,

One more question, are you in Wasington? Your username screams Seattle :)

Looking forward to having each other to chat with through the process!

  • @Mando15 yes, I am in Seattle (and I'm an RN).  Definitely lucky to live somewhere with such easy access to specialty healthcare.  Our friends are in Montana and had to drive to another town/stay in a hotel for fertility visits.  I literally walk 3 blocks from the hospital where I work over to the fertility clinic at the next medical center over.

  • @PNW12RN that is super
convenient! Any chance you go to PNWF? That is where I go but my drive isn’t super close, as I have to commute from Federal Way. Driving there from here is a nightmare on weekday mornings. But it is of course worth it!

  • @Mando15 yes, we're at PNWF.  My RE is Dr Marshall, and I really like her (though, I've seen pretty much all the other REs at some point.)

I just ordered my meds!  I'm a little irritated, because the coordinator emailed me to get things going, and asked when my next period was supposed to start.  I told her.....and now my cycle start date is pushed back about 12 days.  I don't understand why they told me to choose what week in January I wanted to transfer if the whole thing is going to be timed based on when my natural December cycle started, anyway.  So, now it looks like the very end of January for our transfer. Not a big deal at all, just irritating when they told me to pick a date/make plans and that is not actually something that is possible.

So...I'll likely start BCPs on 12/21 instead of the 10th.  Still excited that we're working on meds!  There's a chance my insurance will cover the $600 for lupron, so we're waiting for the prior authorization to come through.  Keeping my fingers crossed, but all the meds together are like $960 if there's no coverage, so it's not nearly as bad as the egg retrieval meds.

  • @PNW12RN Nice! I really like the gals over there at PNWF. My RE is Dr. Shahine. She is great. I have met Dr. Marshall, she is the one that performed my HSG last year.

That is irritating that they changed the dates on you. The end of January will be here before you know it though. And luckily we'll have the holidays as a nice distraction to help pass the time!

I haven't ordered meds yet but I do have my BCP ready, just waiting for Cycle Day 1 to show up. Whenever I want it to come it always shows up late. Drives me nuts.

  • Hi Ladies, mind if I join you?

A little about me - I'm 33, we have unexplained IF. My H and I have been TTC #1 for a little over 2 years now. We did a round of IVF in July after a few failed IUIs. I'm just coming off FET #1, which failed - we got the news earlier this week.

We have 3 frozen embryos left, and hope to transfer one of them around January 17th.

I don't know a lot of other people with IF IRL, so these boards have been really helpful for me. I have good relationships with my friends and sisters, but you know how it is - sometimes when you get a birth announcement in the mail the same day that you've gotten some bad news from your clinic, it's nice to be able to talk to someone who understands.

Keeping FX for all of us!
  • Welcome @funkykey, I hate that you have to join us over here. i hope January is the month for all of us!!

AFM: AF FINALLY came today. I’ll start priming with estrogen patches and estrace tomorrow morning. US to check lining 12/20. Since my clinic doesn’t do any transfers the week to Christmas or NYE, we would then just stay on the dosages until the week of 1/8! It can’t come soon enough, I’m a little over all the Facebook Christmas pregnancy announcements lol. Aren’t we all? Haha

  • Hello all!

My husband and I are planning on doing our 6th FET in January. This time we're doing a natural cycle instead of medicated.

Prior to this we did 7 IUIs, 2 era tests (I need 6 days of progesterone), and I just had a d&c two weeks ago to clear out polyps and small septum. We've been trying for a little over 6 years so hoping this is it- but if not I guess we'll just keep trying!
  • Welcome @rachelbeth130 hope this is your month!

  • Thank you! Hoping this is your month too!!
  • Getting close!  We paid for our transfer last week and got the meds ordered.  They're being delivered on Tuesday.  I'm expecting my period on the 20th and will start BCPs the 21st.  If all goes as planned, we'll have a transfer at the very end of January.

I'm convinced I'm actually pregnant at the moment (I'm totally not).  It would be the best thing in the world to give my husband a positive pregnancy test at Christmas.  I'm just coming to finally realize that once we do the FET, there is zero chance we'll ever have a little boy.  We have a 7 month old daughter now, and our frozen embryo is also female.  We said before all of this that we were hoping for 2 pregnancies/2 boys.  I wouldn't trade my daughter for anything and I love her more than anything in this world, but I really wanted to have a little boy someday who looks just like my husband.  But, the reality is that my ovaries come out 30 minutes after the next baby (or in February/March if the FET does not work), so unless I am actually pregnant at the moment, there will be no little Ethans running around in my house.  Such a silly thing to be sad about in the grand scheme of things, but it is what it is.
Me: Age 40  Husband: Age 41
Chemo killed my ovaries (along with a BRCA1 mutation, which causes DOR)
4/30/13 ER just prior to chemo: 8 embryos frozen at 2pn. 2 survived to blasts/1 PGS normal

    4/16 ER cancelled on CD7: 1 follicle on L/ 0 follicles on R
    FET #1  7/13/16  BFN

    Super shocker +HPT 9/19
    Baby Alyce arrived 5/8/17

Went forward with donor eggs from my sister for baby #2
ER 4/24, 5 eggs fertilized/1 survived to blast and was chromosomally normal.

    FET 2/15 (my sister/donor's birthday!).  Beta 10dp5dt:172; beta 12dp5dt: 425

  • Hii Everyone,

I am Adrianne, and the DH and I have been TTC for 8 years. I have a severe case of PCOS and overstimulate easily. We were trying IUIs at first but none successful, and then I lost my job and my insurance coverage. So we took a much-needed break. Another 4 years and still no baby so w/ my new job and better insurance we're trying it again.

We started our testing back up in all is pretty much the same. DH is perfect, I'm not ovulating. Our insurance wants 6 IUIs before moving on to IVF, but check this: they don't count canceled cycles. So we tried the "slow and steady" approach last cycle, and still ended up w/ borderline OHSS (E2 = 5336) BUT luckily RE convinced insurance that we needed to convert to IVF and they saved the cycle.

Now we're waiting for AF so we get primed for a January FET. Check the spoiler box for the all of the deets. It's nice to meet you all and I'm excited to join this journey alongside you.

    Me (33) & DH (29)
    DS (13) DS (11)
    TTC#3 since '10 (PCOS)
    2 IUIs 2013 (1 canceled and 1 BFN)
    Ready to try again 2017:
    IUI converted to IVF Dec'17
    ER 12/11, 20 eggs retrieved/15  mature, 12 eggs fertilized and 5 day5 blasts frozen
    FET set for January 2018

  • I can totally relate @PNW12RN but the opposite. I have 2 sons from a previous relationship that my husband adopted when we married, so as far as he's concerned he has 2 boys already. All he wants is a girl, and a little ashamed to say, so do I.  I know things are pretty final for you since the ovaries come out after next baby, so I think its okay and normal to "mourn" a little bit for the missed chance at your baby Ethan.

Wishing you nothing but the best, however the best may comes ;)

  • Hello, ladies. I think I am ready to join this group now.
TW*  About me : DH and I have been ttc for 2.5 years, we were unexplained but then I got a surprise natural bfp right before our first IVF cycle. The bfp turned out to be late diagnosed EP, I lost my right tube and apparently my left tube is no good either ( severe scarring) so now my dx is tubal IF. At least we know what's wrong, right? So we did an IVF cycle in September which resulted in CP, then my first FET was a bfn. * End TW So my fet#2 is scheduled for January 15th. I am having an endometrial scratch done this Friday which I am a little nervous about. And I am turning 30 this Saturday!  I am excited for all of us to start 2018 with bfp's!

  • Ladies, we are getting closer to January! Merry Christmas and ... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

@PNW12RN - I'm just thinking about your story, and how stressful I'd find this FET if I were in the same shoes. There's something about being down to only one embryo - for me, I would have mixed feelings. Is it bittersweet?

I had to see my GP the other day about something else, and she asked me how the treatments were going. I said that our first FET had failed, and that now we're starting to get into: "Ok, when do we stop?" I mean, obviously, I want to have a family very badly. But I'd be lying if I said IF hadn't taken a toll, and in the back of my mind I'm starting to think: "How much longer are we going to keep trying like this?" If this next January FET fails, for me, I'd like to do another round of IVF, but DH isn't so sure. He thinks we try one more FET (for a total of three) and then we leave it.

I'm really hoping I get KU-ed though, and that we don't have to make that decision.

As for the preferring a particular gender, I think about that too. I mean, logically I know that whatever I actually get is going to be totally different than what I imagine. When I think about a life with two little boys or two little girls, for example, even if I have two little boys or two little girls, they're probably going to surprise me! So I think: "It's silly to prefer a gender". And also, I mean, I want a family so badly, and I'd be so grateful for whatever baby we get, I don't really give a fig about their gender. I would never choose a particular gender (if we had enough embryos to make that choice).

But in my heart, if we just end up with little boys, as happy as I would be, part of me would always wonder what it would be like to have a daughter. Sometimes I think because of that, we probably will have only boys! *TW* I know a couple of examples of families here with four or five sons, and sometimes I wonder - particularly for the family with five boys - why did they keep trying to have babies? Even if the moms would never admit it, sometimes I think it's because they wanted a little girl. *TW* We're not in the same boat - at this point, the most I'm hoping for is 2 children, because I'm having to work so hard for even 1 - but if we were in a different boat, I'd too have the impulse to try "one more time" for a little girl.

Anyway, all that is to say, I can understand why you'd be a little sad. It's like letting go of yet another dream, and IF means you've had to let go of so many already.

@LadyDouce - holy! Your DH was so young when he had kids! PCOS is such a b*tch, I'm sorry for your cancelled cycles, and hoping this FET does the trick.

@DecemberDoll27 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Welcome to your 30s!

How was the scratch? I'm so sorry for your struggles - ugh. I mean, EPs are tragic for anyone, but it seems particularly unfair for IF women. And I'm sorry for your CP and failed FET too. :( Here's hoping 2018 brings much better luck your way! And that your 30s are much, much better than your 20s. ;)

AFM: I'm still waiting for AF; I'll know my dates better then. She's due next week.
  • Just to make things interesting, my usually punctual period started 4 days late (!).  So, I'll be starting my BCPs tomorrow and my transfer will be at the veeeery end of January.  They'll give me a specific calendar on Tuesday when everyone's back at the clinic.  Glad to finally be getting going!  I got my other meds delivered last week, so I am all set. This whole thing seems surreal.  I'm sure giving the actual injections again will help make things feel real!

January is almost here!! I know a lot of us are pushed to the very end of January but I’m guessing now that you’re starting meds, the month is going to fly by.

AFM, I was tentatively scheduled for my first FET at the end of January but my SIS last week revealed some uterine polyps that have to be removed before we can move forward.

I hope that January is a great month for all of us!
  • Welcome to everyone that joined us here!

I started Lupron few days ago. And as expected, I’m having a constant headache! My baseline appt is next Friday which is when I will start the patches.

  • Somehow, with my period starting 4 days late, I'm now looking at a Valentine's Day transfer instead of late January.  Not entirely sure what's up with that, but they mentioned my RE being off for a few days so I suspect I ended up with an extra week or so of BCPs before I start Lupron.  I did get to start BCPs Christmas Day, so at least I am doing *some*thing.  I also went in for my bi-annual ovarian ultrasound (looking for cancery issues) and got an all clear there, so I am MORE than ready to go now!

I suppose I'll go add myself onto the February FET board (if one is started).  Best of luck to all of you this next month!! Sending sticky vibes and positive thoughts your way.

  • I just got an email from my clinic telling me that my Dr will be on a family leave (I bet they meant maternity leave but just didn't want to use that term) from Feb to May....

My FET is at the end of January. So she will probably do the transfer... unless she's giving birth early...

what sucks is that this is my last embryo, so if this fails, I will have to make a new plan with a new doctor... ahhh....

I really hope my last embryo is the one!!! *FX*
