I love over-doing it during the holidays. It doesn't stress me out at all and I just think it's tons of fun! I'm getting sick of all these curmudgeon articles about simplification and cutting back and blah blah blah. You do you and that's great but please don't make me feel like an asshole for being extravagant.
@wishiwaspreggo and @ble1 I agree! I love shopping, especially for DH. But FFC.. just once I wish he would go overboard on me and buy me something I'm not expecting at all.
What was the worst Christmas(or other special occasion) present dh got you? For Valentine's Day 4 years ago I got an automatic car starter, which I still havent received so that was my worst one.
My H kind of sucks at gifts. He got me a purse and wallet this year and already gave it to me. I don’t like it and I’m too guilt ridden to say anything. Occasionally, he does well. Once I got a kitchen aid stand mixer and this week he booked me a 90 minute massage. I asked for athletic pants one year and got them the next 3 years. Not even ones I like. I guess my confession is that I’m vain and want him to listen better as to what I want. Eta: I guess my bonus confession could be I need to be more assertive on things like yay. Or not, just suck it up and be happy he tried.
@nitnat007 I've been waiting for August 18 because I'm totes gonna be on there because I used Clomid this cycle, and I want to see how crazy it's going to be.
Also eyeroll-worthy- I'm also totally trying to 'sway' for a girl this month. Because that's totally science. Almost as much as the Chinese gender chart.

@wishiwaspreggo I am so excited to over-do it this year! It's our first Christmas in our house, and I am giddy with excitement. MH keeps trying to reign me in, but it's not working lol. He doesn't know it yet, but he's putting up lights outside this weekend.
AFM... MH and I don't get each other Christmas presents, and I am totally ok with that. He's so hard to shop for. I know my MIL silently judges us for it because she can't understand how I'm fine with not getting a gift from him. I'm ok with that too lol.
It may be a little selfish, but I prefer when people get me gift cards so that I can buy things that I actually want/need. I tell my mom this every year but she never listens to me and always ends up getting me stuff that I’m not crazy about.
@jsnakehole I actually like the birth month boards better now that my cycle is a month ahead (I'm now trying for September). I can lurk and enjoy the drama without getting hopes up about joining it.
I guess my confession is that H is WAY better at gifts than I am. He buys everything he wants when he sees it. I'm only able to get him something good this year because I told him previously he couldn't have it. I guess that's my other confession. I dictate what's "allowed" in the house.
@Spylon this year we aren't doing presents, normally we chip in on 1 big item that we can use together. We've bought a telescope, nice camera for astrophotography, this year DH just bought me a car. I'd be just as fine without anything. I think we just use Christmas as an excuse to buy something we normally wouldn't spend money on. We just don't need anything. We buy what we want through out the year.
@mrs_drc_rn - I love gift cards too but I hate when you are just exchanging gift cards. You both might as well just keep your cash. What's the point? If it's a gift where you aren't exchanging anything, and it's purely as a gift.... gift cards are for sure the way to go.
Gift card exchanges make zero sense to me. Let's just high five instead. Lol

@eleven_ people wash pants?! Kidding. sort of. I don't know why people wash pants every time you wear them?! It just starts to effect the integrity of them. Plus if nothing spills / they aren't dirty why bother?! unless you don't wear underwear or something.
Plus one for waiting all week for that dang August 18 board to open!
And also plus one to way overdoing Christmas - I over-decorate, over-bake, and way way over-spend. I am thankful that me and DH have decent enough jobs that I can spoil our loved ones for the holidays without going completely broke (sort of).

The first Christmas after my niece was born he got my sister a t-shirt that said "First Xmas as a Mom" and got my niece (who was 7 months old) a t-shirt for about an 8 year old (size wise) that said "First Xmas as a Baby" - he thought he was going to nail Christmas that year because he went out and got them specially printed at some store. They were so bad, and the fact that he couldn't even spell out c-h-r-i-s-t-m-a-s because it was a pay by the letter deal made it so much worse!
@galactickates I get what you mean about keeping the cash. DH has spent years telling people not to give me cash though haha I used to just put it all towards bills. I’ve only recently adopted a “treat yo’self” mentality.
@eleven_ I hate when my jeans get to the point of needing to be washed. They get so stiff afterwards! I usually only wash them if they get dirty or if I wear them out to a bar and they stink of cigarettes after.
@jrm_14 - I can just imagine in YH's head I know she loves athletic pants chickety check lol next! The first year I was with my H I just told him flat out, b if you can't think of something get me jewelry.. or what my neighbors do which I thought was a fabulous idea is create amazon wish lists and buy off each other's list. Maybe make a rule that you have to have items submitted by a certain date and no peeking after if you wanted to keep them a secret?
@galactickates Yes, that's something we've done too! We don't get each other gifts, but we'll agree on buying something we both can use, like a new TV one year. We're considering a new computer this year.

@galactickates I do that for my husband. His family wants you to tell them exactly what you want, like send me the link and I’ll hit buy. I like a bit more surprise, so I send him a list of ideas on amazon and he picks which ones, so it’s still a surprise.

The last couple Christmases have been weird either due to moving or remodeling but this year our house is finally in order and I get to decorate the exterior for the first time I went nuts last year at the after-Christmas sales and stocked up on outdoor decorations. Super excited. I am decking the shit out of my halls this weekend.

I usually always wear the same pair of jeans for a few days running then just wash them on the weekend, people who wash them after every use are the weird ones and how many pairs do they own?! I only have two good jeans one blue one black haha
keeping on the laundry theme, my bras are not on a regular washing routine at all. I think it’s because I’m a member of the itty bitty titty community so I don’t wear one every day but yep not a priority for me
My FFFC, my mom and I just went to the outlet mall to Christmas shop, and I bought myself a bunch of stuff.
I also go over the top for Christmas. I already went over our "limit" and I am not even done. I bake cookies usually twice a week starting in November and I over decorate.
I also only wash pants or bras after a few wears, with the exception of leggings, they generally get washed every wear, but that is because I usually will wear them to bed by accident.
@CraftyG I have to wear a bra every day and still don't wash them as regularly as I should. I also wash them in the machine - I don't have time to hand wash!
@holly321I totally read that as "after a few years" and was all "what in the actual fresh hell is this?! Her H must really love her to put up with that kind of stink!" I also wash my leggings every time (although sometimes I will wear them all day, to bed, and all day again the next day!)
I loathe putting away laundry so much that I will wear pants until I absolutely have to wash them. #noshame
My FFFC (thanks @elothair for spelling that one out) is that I'm not buying Christmas gifts for my TW-kids nieces and nephews in Texas because I rarely see them and I don't think they've ever thanked me for a gift.

I don’t buy birthday gifts from my brother’s kids (9,9, & 4) because I’ve never heard a verbal thank you let alone a written one. For a long time, they even know my name. So, last Christmas I gave each $5, called it a day. And spent more on my sister’s kids who know me, love me, & appreciate me. I don’t know if I’ll even do that this year for his kids.
