We have a cookie bake sale at church tomorrow and I'm supposed to bring 6 dozen homemade cookies to sell. I'm cheating and using frozen cookie dough I bought at a fundraiser for DS1s preschool class. The cookies aren't as good as real homemade, but I'm tired and have no time for real baking right now. #procrastination

I hear you @krashke. I get so unfocused on everything else during pregnancy. Things like work just seem to get in the way. LOL

@krashke yes- I've been so unproductive all week. Or maybe I just feel that way since I'm slightly up on the energy level than previous weeks. But my main account is being cut back a lot next year, and I had the "well you can't fire me because I'm pregnant" thought. I'm sure they will shift some work around and I'll have a whole new client sucking up my time in a month or so.
So I don’t really understand wine. I want to like it but maybe I’m not trying the right kinds. I feel like I’m missing out for sure...maybe I’m just not an alcohol person.
So I was a lurker on The Bump before this group. I figured out pretty much all the abbreviation and etiquette, etc. Except I never really knew what QFP meant. Somewhere along the line, I decided it meant, "Quit F***ing Posting" which made sense in all the instances I saw it used. It wasn't until a couple weeks ago someone asked on here and I found out I was wrong. I kinda like mine better
@Austenista I have to admit, I have no idea how people can not like wine lol because I MISS IT SO MUCH. But I didn't like it when I first started drinking it at 18. I had to try a bunch to figure out what I like. What really helped was going wine tasting in Napa because 1) all the wine is good (this is not true of all wine regions, lol), 2) tasting/smelling them side by side was helpful for me to realize what flavors were different, and which I liked. I had to start with white wine and move on to red. I think chenin blanc was the first white I ever really liked, for a long time I could only really tolerate that or sav blanc, but bland sav blanc. Pinot Noir was the first red I liked because it's lighter, but one from Washington not any French versions - French wines (and European wines in general) are funkier. Anyway, obv you can't start your wine loving obsession right now so this is a moot point, but seriously: I miss wine so much. SO MUCH!
(And the best advice I ever received was to tell a wine expert what you DON'T like and have them suggest something. So I don't like acid, I don't like vegetal, I don't like sweet. That narrows things down SO much. I always thought I had to know what I do like to ask for wine advice, but what you don't like helps too!)
@Austenista agree with @doxiemoxie212 . I've gone to various places to try different wine - - Napa, Willamette Valley, Charlottesville, VA and Alsace, France. I've learned over the years what I like (Alsation rieslings and pinot gris, Oregon pinot gris and pinot noir, Viognier) and what I hate (Chardonnay, Cab Sauv, Merlot). For a long time, I thought white = chardonnay and red = merlot / cab sauv.
@doxiemoxie212 I went wine tasting in Napa in my early 20’s and agree that it was all good. I’m migraine prone and drinking often triggers a headache for me so I think that’s what keeps me at arm’s length. But one of my big goals of my thirties is to broaden my horizons with wine tasting and figuring out what I like again. My neurologist was just getting me started on a preventative when I got pregnant so maybe once we have LO, I can try again. I feel like I’m going to need it with 2 under 2!
@Austenista there are also certain wines that have more sulfates or tannins in them which can be part of what triggers migraines/headaches for people. My mom, for instance, does not do well with anything that has been "oaked" - it tends to trigger a migraine for her. It took her a while to figure out that was it, though.
@marcus7676 ughghghghghg give me some viognier!!! I love viognier!!! I'm so sad I can't drink it this very moment.
Guys, I'm going to have a glass of sparkling wine on NYE. I have decided. AN ENTIRE GLASS OF MY VERY OWN!!
@doxiemoxie212 I was debating a 1/2 glass of champagne on NYE. We will be at a wedding and we will have just announced on FB so everyone will know and I'm not sure I want to deal with all the judgement.

@doxiemoxie212 I'm with you re: the beach. However, I love the ocean. So, when we go on vacay, I usually end up giving ALL MY MONEY to a boat company so I can lay out on a catamaran and jump in the ocean whenever I want without the sand.
@LaceyBee522 that's DH's dream, but I get soooo seasick. For our honeymoon in Maui, he was sooo excited to take me on a boat to see the dolphins, and I spent the entire time belly down on the boat with a towel over my head just repeating to myself in my head, "Don't vomit, don't vomit, don't vomit." When they stopped the boat to let us get off to snorkle, they were like, "Do you want these goggles, etc.?" and I was like, "NO I JUST WANT TO BE OFF THE BOAT QUICKLY!!!" I was very upset I had to get back on to go back to shore. lol
@doxiemoxie212 Oh, that is tragic! I'm so sorry that happened to you. We're supposed to go out on a fishing boat on our big family vacay to Key West next March (last trip before babies, prob) and I'm really hoping pregnant me doesn't have any issues with sea sickness!
I'm not a wine person. I prefer harder stuff, rum, vodka, etc all mixed with something. My cousin did have a really good, sweet wine at her wedding and I loved that one. My fffc- when not pregnant, I put the kids to bed, have a rum and coke and get a little tipsy. Not drunk, just giggly. I know my limits and never over do it so I can take care of the kids if they need me. But my kids also don't usually get up once they've gone to bed.
@doxiemoxie212 there are definitely exceptions. But for the most part, I don't like it. I don't really like sitting down to watch movies or gaming either. It feels like a chore.
@Austenista what do you do then? I love binge watching a show on Netflix while I fold laundry. It will take me like 4 hours to fold the laundry when I could probably do it in 20 but that way I can watch my show in peace without MH bugging me.

@krashke I love to read (I'm a big reader), play on the computer/phone, listen to music, play with my kid, and talk to people. I do like some tv and movies, but 9/10 I'd just rather be doing something else... and usually I'm reading.
Count me in on the wine missing training. For some reason it has been so much harder this pregnancy. The struggle is real. I absoluetly plan on having a 3-4oz glass of red wine with Christmas dinner! I can not wait...
@May14th2011, you mean to tell me there are people who don't enjoy an adult beverage after they put the kids to bed?
The best wine advise I have ever gotten (originally on a vineyard tour in South Africa- Shennanblanc region (spelling?) was to not feel pressured to like anything specific or within a specific price range. Try a lot and if you like it you do and learn more about it and if you don't like it- that is ok. Don't feel pressured to do the smelling and sipping then spitting pony game.
God I miss alcohol so much. So much more than I thought. MH makes the best manhattans/sazaracs/martinis and I used to have one every other night or so. I always thought that my excitement for being pregnant would override any desire for alcohol. But, man do I miss it.
On a related FFFC, I think vodka is a dumb alcohol. It has no taste. Gin all the way.

@Austenista I also enjoy reading more than watching TV. Yes I do have several shows I always watch, but to sit down and relax at the end of the day it’s with my Kindle!
My FFFC is I’m seriously about to call a parent to tell them their child has a fever even though he doesn’t because he’s clearly in pain. His ear is killing him and I sent a message to mom and she said she would come get him if he was still complaining, so I replied that he was and he didn’t eat much lunch at all. That was three hours ago.
I love that this FFFC is like 80 percent about alcohol. I want an old-fashioned so bad I could throw things. And I am embarrassed by how much I am looking forward to my NYE prosecco.

I totally agree with @doxiemoxie212 about how to get into wine. I hated it until I took a couple wine classes in college. I started with white and then move to Pinot Noirs.
Im wayyy more into craft beer than wine now. It’s just as complex as wine now. We have a ton of local breweries and miss them.
My FFFC: I really don’t like to read books. I think Harry Potter and The Mockingjay series are the only books I’ve read since getting out of school.
So living in the Bible Belt and being raised by my grandparents (my grandmother’s father was an alcoholic) - not many people I know drink and there was never alcohol in the house. Like ever. My husband and I aren’t opposed to drinking at all, but neither of us really do. I think I would just like to know more about drinking in general and not just wine.
