Re: Weekly Chat 11/26

  • What are you looking forward to this week?

I have a huge job interview tomorrow for a show that would start right when my current one ends. It would be amazing for my resume, perfect timing and more money so I'm nervous but super excited!

    What are you dreading?

Well, my husband came down with freaking pneumonia last night, so the whole week is probably going to be a struggle. Unfortunately it coincides with a huge week work wise (and the job interview) so I'm just gonna be working my ass off at work and at home while he recovers, poor guy. I've never seen him this sick and I feel awful for him!

Have any goals/things you want to get accomplished this week?

Survival, basically. And in an ideal world I'd get that job and find out.

    Random thoughts?

I'm super bummed that this holiday week went the opposite of what I had planned (I had hoped to take the whole week off and finish a writing project and neither of those things happened) but I just need to roll with the punches and be grateful at least I don't have pneumonia like my poor husband.

GTKY:  With the upcoming holiday season, what is your favorite holiday tradition?

Oh I love all of it - making cookies, picking out and decorating a tree, advent calendars, and it's going to be extra fun this year because DD is old enough to recognize Santa and she's already obsessed with Christmas lights.

  • Loading the player...
  • @meggyme Wow, an amateur car race!  That sounds exciting!  How far/fast will he go, roughly?  Is there a prize?
  • Was working today and had to start thread and go. :(

What are you looking forward to this week? A big project at my company wraps this week. I cannot wait to get rid of it!

What are you dreading? nothing, really.

Have any goals/things you want to get accomplished this week? get this project done and then put up the Christmas tree this weekend!

Random thoughts? I started watching holiday movies and got super nostalgic for Christmas. Like @meggyme, totally in the holiday mood now.

GTKY:  With the upcoming holiday season, what is your favorite holiday tradition? Baking Christmas cookies, decorating the house, and watching the original How the Grinch Stole Christmas, along with Charlie Brown Christmas.

@maureenmce - Oh, no! Your poor H! I hope he feels better before too long! Pneumonia really stinks. And good luck on your interview! that would be awesome to have another job lined up before this show ends. FX!

@meggyme - Sorry you had to work Friday and didn't really get the long weekend. Hope you get to decorate soon! My MIL always has to watch White Christmas on Christmas eve, too!

  • @maureenmce it’s more for fun than winning. They have an 80’s bmw with a kegerator in it. Their team is called Race Bar and it’s as much an excuse to go out drinking after than anything. They’ve got their Chump Car race this weekend. I think it’s a 24 hour race so they’ll all take turns driving. Last year they won most spirited team.

  • Looking forward to: honestly not sure...maybe dinner tomorrow? Going to Outback Steakhouse as DHs choice since today was his bday!

Dreading: potentially tomorrow before dinner, we're taking DS to see Santa and I'm 99.9999999999% sure he's going to scream. So I may have to be in the picture with him, lol.

Goals: ummm...maybe get patterns for our Christmas pj pants printed/taped/cut out. I've got the fabric, so I should probably pre-wash that as well.

Random: my mommy goes back to Arizona tomorrow (I'm in Missouri) :'(
Random pt 2: we put up our tree today!! I'm curious to see how long it lasts between 2 cats and a toddler! Lol

GTKY: I don't feel like we had traditions growing up. I guess I count the santa calendar my grandma had (I guess an advent calendar?) where you flipped the piece each day of December and it counted down to Christmas Day. Since last year I've decided to sew Christmas pj pants for myself, DH, and any children we have. Also DH and I started going to The Plaza lighting ceremony (KC thing!) on Thanksgiving Day a few years back, so we continue to do that!

  • What are you looking forward to this week? The weekend haha I have a lot of work to do this week to recover from the holiday, and I won’t get a chance to feel caught up until this week is over!

What are you dreading? My night class is almost over, and the last few weeks have been pretty tough so just going to class and doing homework.

Have any goals/things you want to get accomplished this week? Finishing homework I have due Thursday, getting caught up on grading for tests I gave before the break. Recover from this cold I picked up from the break!

Random thoughts? A relative announced her pregnancy at Thanksgiving so I’m excited to get baby updates from her!

GTKY:  With the upcoming holiday season, what is your favorite holiday tradition? Decorating for Christmas, family dinners. At Thanksgiving we play a lot of the same games so that’s the tradition that’s the most fun
  • @maureenmceThat's tough!  Yay for the job interview!  But sorry to hear about your husband!  I've heard of so many 30's something men getting pneumonia this year.
@meggyme I guess it is the time for holiday parties to start!  Have so much fun!
@catlady2015 The original Grinch movie is the best!
@CecilB93 Good luck with your Santa pictures!  I think the crying kid ones are the best haha.
@dogmomma271 What sort of classes are you taking?

What are you looking forward to this week?  My hip is feeling a lot better so I think I'm going to head back into the gym!  Maybe not a lot of weight to start but I need to do something!

What are you dreading? I didn't clean at all this weekend....I'm going to need to do that.  Boo.

Have any goals/things you want to get accomplished this week?  Our last craft sale of the season is this Saturday.  I made 3 hats last night, just need to add the pom poms, have another on the go now.  I'm hoping to get a few more ready for the then.

Random thoughts?  A coworker had an online auction as a fundraiser for her daughter's dance school and I ended up winning a 2 night stay in a gorgeous vacation condo in one of the mountain towns with natural hot springs near us.  I told my husband about it, all excited to go on a little family vacation that is a close drive and all he mentioned was the price (which is less than a one night stay in a typical hotel).  That got me a little deflated, but I think we'll have fun when we get there!

GTKY:  With the upcoming holiday season, what is your favorite holiday tradition?  I grew up Catholic celebrating Christmas, but I married a Jewish man and we're raising our kids Jewish so I'm trying to create new traditions for Chanukkah that will be just as big and exciting as Christmas was for me as a kid.  We've thrown a Chanukkah party for the past 3 years where I make a whole ton of Jewish food and we get all the kids to help light the menorah and get a gift.

  • @mermaidca your Chanukah party sounds like such a great way to celebrate. I’m also a catholic raised Jewish marrying person! Although he’s culturally Jewish rather than religiously Jewish (we’re both atheists) but I’d love to at least bring the cultural traditions into our home for our daughter to learn about.

  • @meggyme that is so funny, what a coincidence!
I still put up my Christmas tree because it's just gives me those warm tingly feelings from childhood.  My husband tries to go to shul every week but I'm not religious at all.  I'll identify as a Jewish convert culturally only ;)

  • @mermaidca Graduate level math courses  :( I have an undergraduate degree in math but at the graduate level I am no longer enjoying/interested in what we're learning!
  • @maureenmce Oh no, pneumonia is terrible. I had it as a kid and missed school for almost 2 weeks.

@meggyme I always watch White Christmas, too!

What are you looking forward to this week? Christmas decorating! Also, I ordered some cloth menstrual pads from a local seamstress that I’m picking up tomorrow. That’s an odd thing to look forward to, but I’m an odd person.

What are you dreading? The weather is being weird. I wish it would just get cold and stay cold. LOL yeah right, I live in Texas.

Have any goals/things you want to get accomplished this week? Decorating, unpacking, cleaning.

    Random thoughts? I love potatoes

GTKY:  With the upcoming holiday season, what is your favorite holiday tradition? Getting a real Christmas tree from the tree farm!

  • Thanks, guys. We pretty much knew this was a possibility, but we were hoping because the nurse who called me with my results back in July told us to try for a year and then they'd send me to an RE. Turns out that she should have referred me to an RE right away, but instead told me to try for a year. The doctor was not happy when I told her and gave me the referral information. So I'll be calling tomorrow to make an appointment for a consultation. Hopefully we'll be able to get in by the end of the year. She did say that I'm probably not even a candidate for IVF because my number is so low. With the cost of adoption being what it is, we probably won't be able to be parents.

@meggyme Low AMH. My number was 0.31 in July and could be lower now. My other numbers are all fine, I just have stupid ovaries.

  • @dreamscapes_ I’m so sorry for that news. Take time to grieve what you’ve lost but try not to count yourself out just yet. You still have options. There are all sorts of grants and programs for foreign and domestic adoptions, as well as fostering. You just need to look into your options when you’re ready. We’re here for you no matter your journey.
    DD1: June '16 DD2: March ‘19 :::: Married since 2011 :::: USN Wife ::::
  • @dreamscapes_ agreed on other options. Idk anything about AMH, but could a surrogate be an option, too? Or even an egg donor? I'm sure there's something (like meggyme mentioned) to help people with adoption. Don't count yourself out of being parents yet!! But definitely take the time you need to grieve and heal.

  • We've already been looking into it, pretty much since I got the test results in July. Adoption through foster is available, but many of the kids in the system here have significant medical issues that we're not sure we could provide proper care for. Surrogacy and egg donors aren't really options due to cost and the emotional factor. And again, the cost of private adoption is just ridiculous. So I'm not entirely sure what we're going to do. I just know that we're going through this together.

  • @dreamscapes_ yay for some good news! Glad to hear you have some coverage! So there was miscommunication between the company setting up times and the mall, they don't have Santa until December..so we saw their fairy princess instead (free of charge as an addition to our now future Santa visit). It turned into a family picture with her because he refused to sit with her...I know Santa will be much the same. And honestly, haven't started the pajama pants!! • What are you looking forward to this week? Finishing clinicals and enjoying the month of December.

What are you dreading? Starting ovulation tests this cycle...fearing I am not ovulating.

Have any goals/things you want to get accomplished this week? I need to start eating healthier.  Cleaned out pantry.

Random thoughts?  Excited to think about trying...but nervous as well.

GTKY:  With the upcoming holiday season, what is your favorite holiday tradition? Cooking a large holiday meal for my family.
  • @JTroyna I don’t think OPK’s can necessarily confirm ovulation, just indicate it might be coming. They measure the hormones that coordinate with O, but you can have multiple spikes or a spike and no O. I think the only real indication is temping or an ultrasound with an RE. If you think you’re anovulating, you might want to consider temping. Just food for thought.
    DD1: June '16 DD2: March ‘19 :::: Married since 2011 :::: USN Wife ::::
  • @meggyme yea, i know i need to temp... i have a tendency to overthink things at times so i was going to try and do the OPKs along with CM for a couple cycles... i don't want to completely freak my husband out yet. we probably are looking at starting to really "try" in feb.

@JTroyna I get that. I’m a data nerd, so last time we were trying I started temping immediately because it helped me feel like I had some control over it.

ETA: i’ll likely do the same this next time.

Personally I just like knowing what’s going on. I’ll probably temp for the rest of my cycles even if I’m not TTC.

  • @JTroyna - i started temping/charting and using OPK's simultaneously. OPK's measure your LH surge, which happens before ovulation, but they will not confirm you ovulated. Women can get multiple LH surges in a cycle (the ovulation freakout). Temping is what will confirm ovulation - if your temp stays high for 3 days in a row, it will indicate you ovulated. You'll see a "shift" on the chart of the sustained higher temps from your pre-O temps. A lot of ladies use FertilityFriend, but there are other apps for tracking (or go old school and use Excel/pen and paper) to help track. I like the app (I use FF) because they can be unobtrusive (I used one for 6 months before H was like, hey, whatcha doing on that?) Like @lalala2004, i like knowing what's going on. I know AF is coming because my temp will drop (no more surprise arrivals for me!). But even doing the CM and the OPK's will help. The CM drying up will help the algorithm determine if you ovulated (shift of CM back to non-fertile). let us know if you have questions!
