Also I am a bad wife because when the hospital called my first instinct was to call my Mom who had been asking about it a few minutes before. Then I was talking to her and she asked how H felt and I was like "Ummm I gotta go make a call" What is wrong with me!?!
So glad to hear this! What does the micro-deletion risk mean? Will you do an amino? I get why you called your mom first of you had just been taking to her. In this moments of relief you just want to get it out.
And I've definitely called my mom before DH on occasion. It just happens. We've gone to our mom's first for decades and its burned into us. Just don't tell your husband, haha.
@nanifrog a micro-deletion is where instead of a whole chromosome being deleted or added, a little section of it is missing. They can't see that on a blood test usually (except for a couple more easily detectible ones) but if they do a full amnio they can do a microarray, where they basically look at every single chromosome in detail to see if anything is deleted or added.
We haven't decided about an amnio yet, and it will depend on what the ultrasounds show. But I think we're leaning against it. One thing is that doing a microarray can sometimes just show you have variations in your chromosomes that they don't even really understand - it could be a big issue or it could mean nothing at all. The stress of finding something like that would be pretty huge and apparently they can happen close to 5% of the time. Since the chance of them hitting on an actual issue is probably only 1-2% or even less I'm not sure it's worth the added risk. But it would be different if the ultrasounds show some more red flags.
@suchaglencoco haha unfortunately I am incapable of keeping secrets, and when my husband asked if my mom knew, and then immediately was like "oh of course she doesn't" I had to say "well actually..." Fortunately he is pretty laid back and just thought it was funny.
@thunderberry@nanifrog I was tested for 5 micro deletions as part of my blood test, and more are coming! In a few years I think you’ll get a lot more information with these blood tests, which is just amazing. Go science.
Hey everyone, as a further update we had out 16 week scan yesterday and everything looked perfect! It was a huge relief. We still can't say for sure everything is good but the chances are getting lower and lower that there's anything major. We've decided not to do an amnio at this point unless some sort of additional red flag comes up at the 20 week scan. While we can't know for sure there isn't something going on that wouldn't be visible on a scan, all those type of conditions are rare enough we feel the risk of miscarriage outweighs them.
