Re: FTM Check-In - 11/15

  • For those new Mama's who have already had their baby(ies):
    1) How many days/weeks post-partum are you?
    2 weeks and 3 days

    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
We have her 2 week check-in tomorrow.  I swear she's grown so much already!  The NB footie-onesies are almost too short now, although the regular NB size onesies and pants as separates still fit.  I had a blood pressure check-in last week as mine spiked quite high during labor and again 2 days after delivery.  It is still high for me, but back down into the range that the midwife is no longer concerned.

    3) For nursing moms, how are feedings going?  Baby reacting to any particular foods?
It is going alright.  The baby prefers the football hold for nursing, and we've got all the latch issues with that worked out.  But ... the rocking chair we have in our room for night feedings is not so great for any hold really.  My torso is too short (or arms too long) for the arms on the chair, and it gets in the way.  The chair is also not quite wide enough for me to tuck the baby between me and the arm of the chair.  Combined with the dark (using only a night light for now, as I'm trying to keep the baby in a state of semi-drowsiness at night), we're having night-feeding latch issues.  I'm going to try out the breast-feeding support group at my birth center tomorrow.

    4) For formula-feeding moms, how are feedings going? Have you had to switch formulas at all?

    5) How're you doing with the visitors?
There are none this week, so that is great! I'm only mildly facetious.  The first weekend was so overwhelming.  My in-laws arrived the day we got home from the hospital and were supposed to stay only 48 hours, leaving before my father and grandmother arrived.  Well, my father-in-law ended up with appendicitis the day they arrived at our house and had to go to the hospital for an appendectomy that night.  They were asked to stay in town through the weekend to help him recover and in case of any follow-up issue.  Two days after we got home from the hospital, my father, his wife, and my grandmother arrived.  The day after that, one of my sister's-in-law and her 3 kids arrived.  It was bedlam at my house! And not much in the way of help either ... My mother-in-law went grocery shopping, but ended up filling the house and fridge full of things I cannot eat because of food allergies.  Last weekend we had just day visitors.  I honestly prefer day visitors to over-night guests right now.  I think I get much more worked up an anxious about the baby's feeding/changing/screaming schedule at night (and guilty about waking the guests) when there are people staying in my house.

    6) Rants/raves/concerns?
Why does having a baby mess so much with your GI track?  I've always been a rather regular person, and eat a high fiber diet.  Constipation and hemorrhoids were not an issue during the pregnancy. I do not feel as if I have changed much about what I am eating (other than quantity) post-partum but the GI disruption is no joke.  Not to be TMI more than usual, but if anyone dealt with hemorrhoids during pregnancy and has some good tips, send them my way.  I'm just trying to keep the fiber and diuretic intake up (bring on the caffeinated tea and coffee and apples!) for now.

    7) Anything else you want to add/ask?
I thought after getting a dog conversations about bowel movements and poop were common place and no big deal.  I had no idea.  I swear the expressions "Fountains of Poop", "Explosions of Poop", "Projectile Poop" and "Lagoons of Poop" are becoming daily utterances.

    8) GTKY - What has your LO done new this week?
She is half rolling over.  She's too young to roll over!  It's probably just balance and reflex, but she does it nearly every day when on her blankets.  Also, she seems to actually like tummy time.  What gives?

    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
Yesterday. Still 2 cm, but now I've thinned to about 75-80%.
    3) Cravings/symptoms?
    Increased BH.
    4) Rants/raves/concerns?
    5) Anything else you want to add/ask?
    6) GTKY - Do you have any last date-night plans with your SO or family?
Haven't planned anything,  but I like this idea!
  • 1) How far along are you? 40+2

    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? On Thursday, nothing was happening and I still didn't get a size estimate.

    3) Cravings/symptoms? nothing

    4) Rants/raves/concerns? been eating dates,  bouncing on a yoga ball, pumping, and HIO trying to get him out. Nothing is working.

    5) Anything else you want to add/ask?
How long after everyone lost their mucous plug did they go into labor? I still have mine.

    6) GTKY - Do you have any last date-night plans with your SO or family?  Just trying to get as much sleep in as possible.

  • @nytino24 sorry nothing is working to prompt labor. I have read (in Expecting Better) that nipple stimulation was really the only at home trick that led to 30% more likeliness of going into labor within 3 days. But it said you had to do it at least 1 hour at a time, 3 times a day. So if you continue, maybe focus on that. Have you asked for a membrane sweep from your doctor? It said that also increased labor induction by 30%.

FX you go into labor before your induction!
  • @NYTino24 I'm just lurking around but I didn't lose my mucus plug until I was in active labor. I hope that helps, hopefully you'll go on your own soon!
  • @dragonfly87-2 My cervix was too high to do a sweep. I've been trying to pump for 15 minutes with a 15 minute break in between. I read an NIH study and used several other resources, but all had different periods of time and intervals / opinions on whether to pump one or both at the same time. I'm getting some colostrum, so I don't want to push it too much.

@jlemons-2 *TW* I lost my plug 2 days before bleeding, 3 days before contractions, and 4 days before my loss was complete last time, so who knows... */TW*

  • @nytino24: Yeah, my cervix was really high at my week check last week. We didn't discuss a membrane sweep at that point, but I go back on Tuesday if she hasn't arrived. I plan to ask for one then if possible. I want to avoid medicated induction, but at the same time, it's going to be a bit awkward because my regular OB is out this upcoming week. It will already be a bit weird for a complete stranger male doctor (he is in the practice, but I have never met him) to do the cervix check, but layering on a potential membrane sweep makes me a little more uneasy as well.
  • @curiousfool1 I laugh at your GI tack issues,  only because I'm experiencing the exact same thing. No real big issues during pregnancy,  but now it's crazy.  I can only recommend witch hazel.
  • 1) How far along are you? 39w3d

    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Had an appointment on Thursday. 0 dilation, but heartbeat was strong and head down/engaged.

    3) Cravings/symptoms? Still have an awful taste in my mouth. I have tried everything (salt water rinse, citrus juices, brushing tongue, gum) and nothing makes it go away. It is beyond irritating.

    4) Rants/raves/concerns? Ok, it feels like she is going to push herself out of my pelvis right now. I have been sitting on a medicine ball throughout the day and walking, and the feeling won't budget. But still just having inconsistent braxton hicks. There were a few moments where the contractions radiating to my back, but only temporarily. This is like torture just waiting to see what happens.....oh, and while shopping in Target today, I peed myself a little bit. WTF? For a second I thought my water broke because it came out of nowhere, but nope, just peed myself. I feel like a child who can't control their bladder.

    5) Anything else you want to add/ask? Nope.

    6) GTKY - Do you have any last date-night plans with your SO or family?
We went out to a southern style/bbq restaurant as a nice date, it's a new place in town. It was pretty nice, but I couldn't eat much because my appetite is still really low. We had planned to go see a comedy show last night, but I feel asleep and was too exhausted....then proceeded to wake myself up with my own snoring. Really lovely.

@dragonfly87-2 I think she will be helpful, but she will have her 6 and 2 1/2 year old with her. She's doing our newborn pics. Hopefully she will come this week!

I'm having some contractions and hoping today is his birthday!!

  • @nytino24: FX today is the day, the contractions should be a good sign! Are they regular/starting to hurt?

I woke up and I feel like I am in limbo. I am having contractions, but can't quite tell if they are still just braxton hicks. I need to time them I guess...but they hurt like period cramps and my back is aching quite a bit. My guess is that it's nothing...but hoping it might be early labor!
  • @dragonfly87-2 FX these contractions are the real deal!!

  • Hope you guys get to meet your little ones soon. @dragonfly87-2 every person is so different but that sounds like what I was having the night before my water broke.  I never had contractions that I could time.   Only could see them on the monitor when I went in.
  • @angkay711 Thanks for sharing. Yeah, I have attempted to time them, but they seem inconsistent still. But they feel different than the previous braxton hicks because they are coming with "wave like" feelings that ache, rather than the non-painful previous ones I have had for a few weeks. Curious to see how it progresses or if it just goes away.

Kind of conflicted though, I had plans to go out and do a bunch of errands today...but debating if driving around town for 4 hours is a good idea at this point.
  • I'm having a similar feeling. More intense than Braxton Hicks, but not regular at all. I'm 40+2, so I'm hoping that these are the real deal and she will be here soon.
FX that your LOs will be here soon @dragonfly87-2 and @NYTino24

My body is confusing me now, lol. For the past 1.5 hours, I have been having regular contractions that are 15-16 minutes apart, but they don't hurt anymore. I have dull achey pains in my back though in between. Just a continued sit and wait I guess.
  • @dragonfly87-2 I had something like that the night before last! Seemed like fairly regular but far apart contractions that were a bit different from my usual BH, plus a bad back ache that was radiating into my thighs. Was really hoping it would turn into labor, but no such luck for me. I'm getting so impatient. Due date isn't until Friday, but this baby is so big and I don't want it to keep getting bigger!
  • @yesouican Ugh that sucks. Yeah, starting to wonder if this is prodromal labor....which would suck. I am so ready to meet our little girl and I am so uncomfortable. Let's hope both of us can meet our little ones soon!
  • @fishakris - I hear you on the witch hazel. Loving my padsicles right now! The high fiber approach also seems to be working.
  • @NYTino24 -- Any progress with the contractions? Hoping you don't respond so that means you are in labor!!!

I am thinking mine was prodromal labor....again. Had it happen last Friday too. Back aches, pelvic tightness, but my consistent 15 minute contractions have now started jumping all over the place ranging from 5-15 minutes apart. Ugh....losing hope this is the real thing. But sending positive vibes to the other ladies!
  • @dragonfly87-2 Sorry to hear you haven't progressed. :( I'm in the same boat. Had a few more weird contractions this evening too, but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

Hopefully @NYTino24 is welcoming her little one today!! Fingers crossed.
  • I report thinking of you ladies @dragonfly87-2 @YesOuiCan @NYTino24 @DungeonTrollMel @hillaryo14 and hoping to see announcements of your sweet babies soon!

My LO is 4 weeks today. I still can't believe it. We had his newborn / family photo shoot. Overall I think it went pretty well except we did his naked photos on our new couch and he peed everywhere. It was quite funny! I am still not used to having a boy from that regard.

I am still pregnant. Contractions fizzled out by noon. Sigh... DH is working a 24 hour shift and there is no chance our little turkey will be home for Thanksgiving at this point. I am so happy our rainbow baby is on his way soon, but it's torture to have to wait this long when PGAL. Andplusalso, I got pregnant for the first time almost a year ago... so I've almost been pregnant for a year.

@NYTino24 booooo! Sorry to hear that. Was hoping your lack of online activity meant he was on his way. Sorry PGAL is getting to you, FX he arrives soon and it alleviates your anxiery.

I just realized last night that  my loss date is coming up soon and I am hoping so much she arrives well before then.

My contractions remained steady at 10 min apart and painless until I went to sleep around 11pm. At 5am, I nearly fell out of bed with an incredibly painful contraction. Since then, I have been having slightly painful contractions that are 15 min apart. Not really sure what my body is doing right now.
  • @dragonfly87-2 That's a good sign! Hopefully they speed up soon for you.

I am overwhelmingly frustrated! I had a regular OB appt and I still have 0 dilation, but 80% effaced. I am having painful contractions 7 minutes apart, but still no dilation?!?! I had to see a different OB since mine is out of town and his only comment was, "This is kind of odd...have you ever had a procedure done on your cervix before that would cause scar tissue and prevent dilation?" I promptly said, "no." And he said, "Hmm....unusual."

Just great....this feels like an ongoing nightmare. Almost 32 hours of consistent contractions that are leading to nothing!

    Sorry for all the rants/tangents.
  • @dragonfly87-2 rand away. That sounds exhausting and incredibly frustrating. Did they mention anything to either Help dilation like cervadil or stop contractions?

  • I am getting so frustrated. I've been having contractions about 20 to 30 minutes apart, but not much more progress. I've dilated to 3, and at my appointment yesterday they hooked me up to the fetal heart rate monitor and contraction monitor. Things are progressing, but very slowly. We're going to schedule an induction for Monday, but I'm hoping she comes on her own before then!
  • Good luck @hillaryo14!

  • @hillaryo14 Sounds like you're almost there! Guys, are the 5-ish of us here the only ones left?! Seems odd since there is more than a week left in November. It looks like I will be the last one standing, even though my due date is a week before the month ends! I didn't expect that... :)
  • @YesOuiCan sorry. I think I was due after you but took the earlier induction date.

  • @hillaryo14 hope things move along and you get to meet baby soon.
@DungeonTrollMel good luck with the induction.   Sorry about the heartburn.  I had it up until the very end so I sympathize.  It caused me to throw up during delivery so hope you avoid that.
@dragonfly87-2 @NYTino24 @YesOuiCan good luck and hope everything goes smoothly and you get to meet your little ones soon.
  • Contractions STALLED again. Now I'm determined to make it to tomorrow so I can get my Thanksgiving dinner.

  • @DungeonTrollMel I'm glad you were able to get the earlier induction date! You've been through so much already and don't need the anxiety of continuing to wait for your sweet boy.
