I had my blood drawn this weekend and found out that I am Rh Negative (blood type is A-) and will have to get a shot at 28 weeks to make sure that my body doesn't think my baby is a foreign invader
Anyone else have this situation? I'm not worried (I trust the doctors have this under control) but it is a little crazy - mainly thinking about how, if I were born in a different time, I might not have been able to have kids??!!
@diadem_I I'm rh negative. the shots not a big deal. unless the baby has the same blood type as you, you'll have to get it again after delivery. I lucked out and he matched me, so I only had the on shot that pregnancy.

@diadem_l ~ Do you know your SO’a blood type? The only reason you would need to have a shot is if he is RH+.
I am B- and DH is A+ ~ I had a couple instances of bleeding during my pregnancy with DS so I got a couple of shots during my pregnancy. When DS was born his blood tested AB+, so I had to get another at delivery too. The shots are NBD.
However, if DH had also been - there would be no concern of a + baby, therefore no shots needed.
Just got a call back on my US this morning- everything looked great, heart rate 160s, baby measured 12 weeks which would put me almost back to my original EDD 5/26 but at this point they will keep it at 6/3. SCH still there but slightly improving so will be staying on pelvic rest (have been since 6 weeks ) Will post the new and increasingly cute ultrasound in the US thread!
Add me to the Rh- list @diadem_l - I hardly felt the shots with DS. They gave me mine in the butt.
I have a prenatal appt tomorrow morning. I don't think they'll do another U/S but I think the OB is going to try to hear the heartbeat on the doppler so I'm excited for that!
My appointment was great and we found out it's twins! They definitely have separate sacs so fraternal for sure. I'm still giggling and smiling like a doofus.
@fitzandgiggles real question: I thought you could only know for sure they're fraternal twins if they're B/G? Like, they're obv identical if they share a sac or a placenta, but I thought di/di if they're same sex then you don't know for sure?
But yay twins! (unless you're not happy about it... in which case I'll revise my response... lol)
@doxiemoxie212 The midwife said definitely fraternal so I don't know. We're over the moon exited, I've always wanted twins and have had a gut feeling the last week that there were 2 in there. We go back on the 29th for a more in depth u/s and an informational sit down about multiples.
Appointment was good but no US yet. Just intake info and blood drawn/urine sample taken. I'll have a vaginal ultrasound in 2 weeks at my 10 week appt. Still feeling nervous that we haven't seen baby yet but the nurse reassured me that since I'm not having any bad symptoms that everything should be fine. Now I'll just be antsy for another two weeks!!
The other bummer is that we were considering telling DH's extended family at Thanksgiving next week IF we had had an US and saw that everything was all good. Now I think we'll hold off for a little while longer and just keep it between immediate family. Hopefully I can pass off some mocktails as real ones around DH's crazy aunts...
Congratulations on all these positive appointments!
I go in today for my ultrasound. I'm excited and nervous. Last time I didn't get an ultrasound until 10 weeks so it was abdominal. This time I'm only 8 weeks, so I'm wondering if it will be abdominal or TV...of course, either is fine, but I'd prefer the least invasive, ya know we'll see in a few hours
Edited to update: done with appt and everything went great. Measuring 8+4 (8+5 based on LMP so right on track) and heart rate 166. And she was able to see everything with the abdominal, so I got to avoid the TV. Yay!
(Probably should have made a new post...? But seemed odd since mine was still the last one. Not sure of the etiquette...?)
I had a prenatal appt this morning and had a few wins:
1. Got about 6-8 vials of blood taken and didn't pass out! ( I don't know the exact number bc I never watch any part of bw. I also passed out with the initial bw testing at the RE when we first went and that was a similar # of vials so I was nervous it'd happen again)
2. I was expecting the doc to use the Doppler but after the nurse took my weight and blood pressure, she brought me in to the OB's office to chat. I told my OB I was disappointed I wasn't going to hear the heartbeat, so he took me in the office after and used it to help ease my mind! It took a while to find, but we heard it! I love my OB, he's the best.
3. My OB gave me this book for free! I already have a ton of pregnancy books, but I thought it was really sweet!
I had my appointment today for the bloodwork and to discuss all the tests and everything that I will get. This is the first real appointment I had to finally get to ask questions and talk. I have low blood sugar and almost passed out when they took my blood which was a fun time!
I found out I won’t get my anatomy ultrasound until 20 weeks which is about end of January so that’s when we can find out the sex. I have to get a special ultrasound at 28 weeks too because my neice has transpositon of the heart valves (I think that was what it was called) and passed away after surgery when she was born so they want to make sure my baby doesn’t have that too as it could possibly be genetic.
I had my first appointment yesterday morning and everything went well. We got to see our little one jumping and wiggling like crazy. Heartbeat was 165. They went ahead and did the first part of my genetic testing and they will do the other half when I go back on December 22nd. We will also find out the sex at that appointment and we are so excited to announce the good news on Christmas
I am so happy to see that we had so many good appointments this week!
I had my first ultrasound today and it went great! Heartbeat was 178 and baby appeared to be active! We saw little nubby arms and nubby legs so that was really neat! I am 9 weeks so 1 week ahead of where I thought I was. I will also go in for genetic testing in the next month so we should know the sex before Christmas! I'm also very excited about finding out! Hoping for a boy but totally happy either way
First appointment was on Monday afternoon! Everything is looking good and baby is measuring exactly for the EDD of 6/24! Heartbeat was 160 so now DH is even more convinced this baby is a girl. Based solely on my DD1 having a 160 HB and DS1 having a slower heartbeat of 140-150 ish. Totally scientific
12 week appointment yesterday went great. HB 160. The baby was moving all around, crossing its legs and putting its hands up to its mouht. My OB reassured me that this labor will be easier than last time and that I shouldn't tear as badly (and that BFing will be easier). I told her I'm holding her to all of that.
At my first appt now. Everything looks “really normal,” according to the US tech. I’ll take really normal. HB is 169. I’ll post the US in the thread in a bit. Waiting to see the doctor and do labs. So relieved to see a wiggling little nugget in there this morning.
