FTM Check-In 11/14

Re: FTM Check-In 11/14

  • @ffw0617 Sorry to hear about your friend. Take it from someone who's both been in both positions (telling my sister that I'm pregnant after her loss and then hearing my SIL is pregnant after my loss) - there is a lot of sadness that can manifest as frustration and anger in that moment. The rawness is very real. She will probably need a fair amount of time to really digest the news, but I'm sure she doesn't love you any less.

  • we get odd responses when we say our baby will sleep in the master closet. But most people have never seen our master closet. Its huge, well lit and has an AC vent. During the hurricane I put an entire inflated queen size mattress on the floor when I was sheltering during the tornado warnings, and still had room for my emergency bag, water and radio. Once we move our clothes and shoes to closets upstairs it'll def be big enough for a crib, changing table and chair. We knew that when we purchased the house, since the master is the only bedroom downstairs. There is no way one of us is going up & down stair throughout the night. The master closet is separated from the master bedroom by the master bathroom, so the baby will have a little buffer from the noise. And if its a boy, well already have a ready made room for when he is old enough to sleep in a regular bed because we have a "kid friendly guest room" that we call our godson's room.

  • @ffw0617 My mom puts all of the grand kids in a pack and play for naps in her master closet,  she has a grand kids guest/play room and a guest room but that closet stays temperature controlled and it's quite so she can keep sleeping babies away from the older kids who are making a lot more noise. I personally don't think it's weird. We almost put an offer on a house that the master closet was bigger then our current bedroom now,  which is fairly large for a master.
  • How are things going?
Pretty good.  I've been really nauseated (and throwing up) and exhausted so work has been tough. Just in the last 2 days things seem a bit better and I've actually eaten some regular food. I'm 9w6d so I'm hopeful that this is going to be a new trend. Other than that I'm just worrying a lot about how the baby is doing, if everything is going ok, etc.
    Appointments upcoming/recent?
Had my first US on 11/6, and everything was good. Next appointment is 11/30 for NIPT, and to have the Dr. find the heart beat with the doppler. I am a little confused because I thought that this would be the time to do the NT US as well, but that hasn't been scheduled yet. Maybe they will do that only if the NIPT is positive? (I'd really just like to see the baby again....I may try to sneak one of the US machines at work one of these days....hehe)
Questions for other FTMs, or STM+?
My question is about boobs. Historically, my boobs have been small/average. I was about a 32b/c, but in the last couple years I've gained about 25 pounds (grrr), and I was about a 32dd/34d. Now, I'm more like a 34e or something, and I just bought some bras that are 36dd (yay clearance) that I pretty much fill out. I'm searching for a sports bra- I can't seem to find one that is supportive yet not so binding that I can't breathe. I also do not want to pay $$$$$ for one. Any input or recommendations would be great!
GTKY: What's your biggest concern for once you bring baby home?
Not having any idea what I'm supposed to do. I'm also worried about being able to take 3 months off after the baby is born...I really want to take the time, but I don't know if we can afford it. I'm also worried about childcare when I go back to work- and whether or not to just have my DH stay home with the baby. I suppose I'll figure it out.
  • Also- to everyone with pets...I don't really have any advice, but I have heard that bringing home some t hings with the baby's scent on it can be helpful, and maybe also having the baby "give" the dog a new toy or treat or something to show the dog that the baby is a "friend". I also liked the idea of letting the dog come to the baby, so the dog is "in control of the situation". Sadly, we had to put our dog down about a month before the BFP, I miss her like crazy and wish she could have been a big sister. But, I think she would have been a little jealous to share my lap :)
  • @ffw0617 Check out Pinterest - there's a lot of closet nursery ideas! I even saw this very small one:

I'm thinking about using the spare room closet for the changing table/dresser just for the sake of saving space.

    I think whatever works!

  • @silvergreen that's really cute. I'm not sure how hard core I want to go into decorating. We have an entirely decorated "kid friendly guest room" upstairs. It's New Orleans Saint's themed (my husband's hometown) complete with gold paint, Saint's boarder paper, futon bunk bed with Saint's comforter set, Saint's desk & matching chair, with framed NFL posters and flags on the wall. So I've (bc I did all the decorating solo) done all the decorating for one kid's room. So esp if the baby is a boy we'll just set him up in that room after a year or so. If its a girl our actual guest room is already painted a pale green, with heather gray curtains, potted faux white flowers on the dresser tops, with a white comforter set with blue and green flowers. I purposely decorated both guest rooms with the intent that they may be easily converted into bedrooms for our kids one day.
