This... This is not a thing. You don’t feel like you’re one race or another. You’ve become so interested in a culture, that you’ve come up with reasons for why you should be a part of it. For instance, I LOVE the hispanic culture, and my friends and I joke that I was born the wrong race all the time, however I’m not dumb enough to say that I am Hispanic, and I was born into the wrong one.
I feel like there there is a huge difference between wanting to assimilate into a culture than being born into the wrong body, like a member of the trans community. You can immerse yourself in a culture, and appreciate it, but you cross the line when you decide that you should be a member.

Just my two cents.
I agree with you and had the same thoughts. I think it's okay to want to immerse yourself in a culture and even participate in their traditions and activities (as long as it's done respectfully). I know DH leans more republican and he tends to say "oh what are we going to have trans species next?" so I know he'll get a kick out of this article.
The psychologist (psychiatrist?) who weighed in for the article made it sound like she was okay with it since he wasn't hurting anyone and I can see that frame of mind but...why not just enjoy a culture? Why do you literally have to say you were born the wrong race?
This feels like yet another topic white people feel like they can get away with. It's maddening and as soon as someone would scream privilege, oh the white tears. (All said as a white person myself)
Let's see a person of color try to say they feel they are white; they would not be taken seriously for even a second. The whole thing feels so incredibly insulting to the people this person is claiming to be. I'm guessing as soon as this white man would undergo the same discrimination Filipino people endure, he'd nope out in a heart beat.
To be fair @thedawkterswife being “white” is the norm in the US. It’s perfectly normal for another race or ethnicity to act and dress white because that’s what 90+% of our media portrays as the standard and what we should all be like.
I suppose I should have clarified more. I'm not really sure how to convey my thoughts in text clearly enough at the moment. I just can't ever see a person of another ethniticity being able to claim that they are white and taken as seriously as this dude is. Though that assumes anyone is actually taking him seriously and not just pandering.
Oh ffs. Totally misread what you posted. Sorry, @ivyvines6. I see what you're saying now.
I'm trying to think about the people I see around my city that are a different ethniticity from me. I honestly feel like the majority wear clothes that would stereotypically fit their background. Admittedly, I live on the cusp of two neighborhoods that are each very segregated ethnically so I could be a n=1.
This is so weird! I also saw this article earlier. I laughed at it. Mainly because my SO is half Filipino, our son is 1/4 but he got my coloring. He's blonde with blue eyes. So technically he's a white Filipino. Seriously though, that guy is weird, sounds like he learned about the Philippines through the history channel. I doubt he even speaks Tagalog! Tagalog is the language spoken in the Philippines just an FYI. I love the food and the ppls are cool but Lola(SO's Grandma) literally wants to take my son to the Philippines to put him on tv cuz she says they love lil blonde kids and he could make the family lots of money! Never gunna happen but I guess it's a thing. I kind of think she would like to marry him off already.
Anyways I am rambling but that guy is nutz. It's awesome to love and appreciate other cultures but it's weird to claim you are something that you arent. There is a big difference between transgender which actually has different causes, and transracial which is made up and i could be wrong but it seems to be just for attention. You are either raised in a culture/region or you aren't. Oh and my 1/2 Filipino SO finds this hilarious as well.
I am super torn about this topic. Overall, I agree with all of you guys. You don't just get to pick what race/culture you want to belong to. However, (just to play devil's advocate and add a little controversy to this controversial thread ) this is how most people used to (and WAY too many people still do) think about transgender people. And while there are some clear biological causes for some people being transgender (intersex people being assigned the "incorrect" gender at birth/in childhood), we don't fully understand what causes all transgender people to feel the way they do. I've also seen those shows on TLC or whatever that talk about trans-species people who think they want to be a dog, or a cat, or whatever. So while at first glance, I agree with you guys that these other two examples of being born in the wrong body are not real, I think it will be really interesting to keep an eye on this topic over the next few years/generations to see what happens with it. Who are we to say that there aren't scientific reasons for this, too? I think it's very typical of us with all our technological advances to think we know everything there is to know about science, when in reality the amount we don't know could probably fill a few galaxies.

@sandbar517 you summed up what I was thinking. I guarantee this was the attitude re: transgendered individuals. That's not to say that it is exactly the same, but I will be interested to see where this goes.

Get a fucking life, bruh.
