Anyone out there with crazy skin issues---what are you using? I am a makeup nut and I have barely even used concealer in the past month because I look and feel like a hormonal 15 year old. I am pale with sensitive skin that dries out easily. I read to avoid face washes with salicylic acid. I've always been allergic to oil of olay products. I just used a tea tree oil mask to try and help. But this is a nightmare. Anyone having luck with anything out there?
@doxiemoxie212 Do you know whether the Mat21 is the go-to for most mommas? They told me if I was interested then they could get one of their nurses to call and find out what the minimum price would be. Apparently it will be cheaper than what they told me over the phone.
@silvergreen - I'm doing th Panorama screen, which is essentially the same thing as Mat21. There is also Harmony. I think it just depends on what the lab your doctor's office is affiliated with does. I couldn't get it (without paying out of pocket) last time around. This time, it's covered because I'm AMA.
@doxiemoxie212 I just had an u/s and asked the tech where the ovaries go because I was like "aren't they attached to the uterus by the fallopian tubes? So they would end up like in your ribs" She said they are just attached by a ligament and they get kind of pushed off to the sides and the ligament stretches with everything else.

@silvergreen I probably won't start looking for items to purchase until after the shower. I'm a FTM but I'm a BIG proponent of early showers (like late in the 2nd tri). My mom never had a baby shower. I was born 7 weeks early, her shower was scheduled for the week after my birth. My youngest sister was born at 27 weeks. DH has a friend right now whose wife was hospitalized weeks 29-31 and now on bed rest for the remainder of the pg. There's no way I'm having a planned shower in the 3rd tri, and I would want to enjoy it. My mom already told her co-workers so one gave her a bassinet and play & go. I told my co-workers yesterday, one who has 2 girls (now 2 & 4 yrs old) offered me a ton of stuff already (even more if its a girl). I'm all about the parents saving money. We have so many expenses to prepare for (medical, leave from work, daycare, everything not given by others). I'd probably wait.
For those of you interested in genetic testing, I have recently read that tests like MaterniT21 (cell free DNA testing) may not be as thorough as the sequential screening, as indicated here. It only references one article/report, so may not be entirely conclusive, but definitely food for thought if you're struggling to make a decision (like me!).
@silvergreen for black friday deals I think it depends on your situation. We had 2 showers when I was pregnant with DD- the only things we bought ourselves were the nursery furniture because I wanted to pick it all out and decorate the nursery. I think it was a big part of my nesting- to create the space for the baby. So I would look for deals on furniture/ crib mattresses. The video monitors are expensive and getting a sale on them is key. All of the other big items were gifted to us.
I looked at a couple of the deals that came out today for Target and BRU and the stuff I was seeing that caught my eye the most was crib mattress (we will probably need another crib and mattress), monitors (I don't need one but there were a few offers), bouncer/jumpers (again, I don't need one this time but they are more expensive than you would think), bottles (we need to get a few more for the new baby). Most of the deals are for older kids.... toys and clothes (which most of us won't be able to take advantage of since we won't know the sex yet).
I feel like the Labor Day sales were the big baby sales when I was pregnant last time. I know that BRU has endless rewards- so you should start your registry before black friday and anything you buy off your own registry will go towards your total (5% back for the first $300 and 10% after).
This is more of a rant question: Why do people assume because you didn't tell them you were ttgp that your pg is not on purpose. For the second time, someone has said to me "it wasn't like you got pregnant on purpose." Uhhhh.... yeah I did. I think they think because we are close I tell them everything, I was going to tell them, but lucky for us we got pg on the first try. Dang. People are going to get on my nerves if we go public and this keeps happening!
@ffw0617 I kind of feel the opposite. Like because people knew we were TTGP they aren't as excited. When we told my mom, who I also ranted about the woes of OPK's to, they were excited and happy for us but not the kind of fun emotional surprise excited that you see in videos.

@ffw0617 I understand that frustration. Some people are treating me like it is a big "whoops" I went through hell with my ex and tried for over 10 years to get pregnant. Now that I am divorced and had moved on to a healthier relationship it's like I wasn't allowed to try. We tried for this baby it wasn't a whoops. We made an adult decision to not get married because we both divorced and didn't want to rush the paper this time. But that doesn't mean we haven't looked at each other as partners and family this entire time while we build a home and family together. We are in our 30s but some people are acting like I am 17 and living at home or something (and if I was--it would still be none of their business lol). We talked early on when we started dating about our wants, needs, and goals in a relationship. This baby is an absolute miracle to me. So the people who treat me like this is an accident are getting clipped from my life because I'm not accepting anyone's negativity.
@ffw0617@missylaneous419 It's really strange how there always seems to be someone, for some reason, that can't be happy about the news. Or receive it in a very half-hearted manner. This is why I still haven't shared the news with my husband's family. I've mentioned it before on another thread, but my MIL's response to my first pregnancy announcement in April was, "Why didn't you wait until X date?" Since she's been playing nanny to my SIL's kid for the past year and a half and has been waiting for her to retire from the navy so she can look after her own kid. Good to know I have to plan my life around her precious daughter.
The cherry on top is that my SIL also just announced her second pregnancy back in September, so I'm not holding my breath that anything will change even if she does retire. I've been a bit prickly about it since my MMC's due date is supposed to be in a week's time, and there was just a resonating sadness and anger following her announcement (this was a week before discovering my BFP). She's a doctor and even gave me advice about the D&C before I decided to opt for it back in April, so I just feel like it would have been courtesy to at least let me know she was trying. That way I could brace myself and the announcement wouldn't come as a complete shock.
@missylaneous419 that's annoying esp since its like what did they want you to do rush into a marriage? Or have kids and get divorced? so stupid
@krashke I understand. Our parents live in other states, so we didn't get to see their initial reaction. Is this their first grandchild, that usually contributes to the level of excitement? This is the first for my dad (and step mom) but not for my mom, and they seemed more excited that my mom. I guess it will kind of be like wedding planning the people who you expect to be excited won't be as excited as you expected. It will always be some random person that steps up.
And I just realized that I sound very hypocritical regarding my reaction to SIL's news, but I think that is a bit of a special exception. My sister has also been struggling with three failed IVF attempts in the last year, so I made sure to let her know we were trying and gently broke the news to her when I did get my BFP. It still affects her and I'm sympathetic to it; I understand it because I've literally been there. So we don't talk much about my pregnancy, and I'm okay with that. I know she will eventually have her rainbow.
Has anyone had an amniocentesis done? I am thinking I will probably need one simce it is looking like I wont have an OB before the first trimester is over and will no longer be eligible for the nipt.
@notaknottie912 you don't need to have an OB to get NIPT done. There are third party labs you can go to to get it done if you just look at Mat21 or one of the other's websites - I'm almost positive. That said, I believe you're ineligible if you're having multiples, so it's possible NIPT is not an option for you either way...
My mom had an amnio with me, and obviously I'm here and am fine.
@ffw0617 that could be it. This isn't my mom's first grandbaby but the one (and another on the way) are from my brother and I thought there would be something a little more special about her daughter becoming a mom. She did say she was tearing up when I texted her a picture of our sonogram. Maybe my in-laws will have a bit more of a reaction as it will be there first grandbaby and they didn't know we were TTGP.
@silvergreen take care of yourself with the due date coming up. Maybe do a little something to honor it.

@missylaneous419 regarding skin... I've never had a problem per say with acne but have been using Biore with salicylic acid for 15 years so I had to find an alternative weeks ago. I found the below face wash in the natural aisle of Woodmans. It's free of sulfates, parabens, phthalates which I guess is also preferred. I'm not sure how great it is, as again I've never really struggled with my skin but I haven't had a worsening of my skin with being pregnant so maybe it's helping. And the few pimples I have got have quickly dried/cleared up with using the wash. May be worth a try for about $8? Hoping you find something if not this one that works but yes stay away from salicylic acid!
You can use over the counter products with salicylic acid. My doctor didn’t recommend changing any of my beauty products which includes a salicylic acid face wash twice a day. There is very little salicylic acid in those products and very little would be absorbed by the skin.
I think only heavy duty prescription acne and skin care products should be avoided.

RCS mommas that have their c sections scheduled already for this LO - did your doctor ask you what you would prefer (vs VBAC) or was it something that was already determined for you? Did it depend on if you c section before was emergency or not?

Yeah, just to echo @krashke: You don’t have to discontinue the use of OTC salicylic acid face washes if you don’t want to. The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists says its safe, and there are no studies showing it to be harmful to a developing fetus. Make your own decisions, of course!

@sunshineandwhiskey the general rule that I've always heard is if you've had 2 csections, they won't offer you a vbac. If you just had one, and no other health concerns, you can go for it. Don't think it matters if it was an emergency. I'm sure each dr will have their own twist and opinions on that. My dr just kinda asked me what I was thinking. She didn't push me either direction.

@courtyowl427 About cavities: I'm super cavity prone. Even when I was always getting great feedback at my checkups about how good of a job I seemed to be doing with brushing and all I'd still have cavities. I'm not sure how that works exactly but whatever. My dentist recommended getting a waterpik flosser and putting a cup full of mouth wash into the water reservoir with the water when I used it. I started doing that twice a day in addition to my normal routine of brushing and flossing and it made a huge difference. My next checkup I had no cavities for the first time in years. If you've never tried a waterpik maybe give it a go? They're not super cheap but not all that bad either and definitely cheaper than a cavity.

@sunshineandwhiskey my doctor told me at my checkup early in the spring that she wouldn't do a vbac. I had an emergency cs after a 2 day induction due to failure to progress and baby not doing well. She thinks whatever was making my body not cooperate is likely still a factor and would happen the second time. I'm so thankful for modern medicine.
@sunshineandwhiskey my understanding is that with breech you might be able to do a VBAC. But a lot depends on your doctors comfort level and the risk they are willing to assume. Last time I felt like I went through most of labor minus the pushing out, and then the cs, and this time I just want to do one lol.
@sunshineandwhiskey My friend had an emergency c her first pregnancy (baby wouldn’t descend), and she asked her OB for a VBAC this time. They had a kind of point system they used to determine how high risk she was; at a certain amount of points, they wouldn’t feel comfortable trying a VBAC. She ended up scheduling a repeat c, but I know a breech c-section gets fewer points than others, because it’s not a risk factor related to your body. Anyway, just thought that was interesting!

@sunshineandwhiskey I had a c section with DS due to bad positioning (face presentation) and VBAC with DD.
Did you go into labor with your first or did they discover breech in US and schedule your C section?
It was my choice to try for VBAC but my OBs encouraged me that I was a good candidate.
Also FYI as you ask questions, ask their policy on inducing. OBs have different stances on whether they will induce or use pitocin for VBACS. That's something worth asking ahead of time so you'll know your options. Some OBs will use pitocin to start labor, some will only use it to help labor once it starts spontaneously and some won't use it at all on VBACs. Some will use non-pitocin methods to induce.
Some providers are definitely more VBAC friendly than others. If you are hoping for a VBAC and your provider is not on board (or seems reluctant or like they are going to put a lot of restrictions on your birth) do some research and see if you can get a second opinion from another’s provider that’s is more comfortable with VBACs.
The latest studies show show that a VBAC is a safe option for most women who have previously had a c-section, if they want it. ACOG just released new (less restrictive) guidelines on VBAC last month
@sunshineandwhiskey Scheduled C section mama here because DD was breech. I was told right after the C section that I would be a good potential candidate for a VBAC. I'm not entirely sure why that is, but I remember them saying something about not seeing anything about my uterus or my anatomy in general that stood out as the reason for her breech presentation. At my 8 week appointment, my nurse practitioner asked if I had given the VBAC any thought. I told her I was leaning towards C section, but she didn't push one way or the other.
@buffalove1211 thank you for that! I remember when i had DD they said something about a VBAC too but honestly I just don’t know. How do you even decide something like that?
Me: 28 | Husband: 39 Married March 2016 DD: born 7.22.16 DS EDD: 6.23.18
@krashke late to the party, but they will look for a cleft palate at your anatomy scan - you can actually see the baby’s lips! My OB prefers the AS be as close to 20 weeks as possible because it’s better then to see the heart and such than at 16 weeks - not sure if timing improves how much they can see on the face as well. It’s amazing what they are able to see though.
thanks for the suggestions, ladies! @stephcat421 I just experienced Woodman's yesterday for the first time. I walked every aisle. Holy balls that place is yoodge.
