We paid extra for our venue to stay open until 11:30 so lots of extra drinking and dancing! We didn't do the traditional after party with friends and instead had the night for just the two of us. Our flight for the Dominican was at 6:30 the next morning. We drove through McDonald's on our way to the hotel, yum! Our hotel room had a huge Jacuzzi tub in the middle of the main room and we had lots of fun and didn't sleep until we had to go to the airport at 4:30 am. We were exhausted and so excited at the same time. It was the best night and trip of my life.
We stayed at our venue until they kicked us out. We were having the best time. We also barely ate the whole night, so we drove through Wendy’s with DH still in his tux and me in my dress. Now we joke that we have to have Wendy’s for our anniversary every year.
We left the reception as fast as we could, drove 2.5 hours to a resort, got drunk, watched football and made new friends at the bar, went up to the room and tried buttsecks (fail), I had a panic attack and we ordered room service. All in all good memories! All the stress of the wedding planning was behind us and it felt amazing!
ETA: We left the reception as fast as we could because there was no alcohol (long story) and we were ready to be alone.
We went to our cottage and opened all the gifts and fell asleep immediately. We were so tired from the whole day. Did not have sex until honeymoon 2 days later lol. The reception was funner than the wedding night. The food, cake, dancing and friends.
We had an awesome time at the reception then the limo took us to the hotel at the airport. We ordered room service and unwound from the craziness of the day. We had an early flight the next morning.
We had an amazing reception. My photographer commented that he never saw a bride dance so much. I didn’t leave the dance floor. Once the reception was over we realized we didn’t plan very well and had no way to get to our hotel. A friend drove us, we had some fun there and then passed out. We left for Spain the next morning!
We went home with our baby and my then 5m old projectile vomited all over me and my dress. So DH handled that and I showered. And then we polished off some champagne and binged watched netflix. It’s not nearly as much fun when you’ve been together forever with a baby
We had a very small wedding and reception. But it was fun! My FIL who doesn't really drink snuck in apple pie (the homemade liquor) but we got caught haha... Went back home that night as DS was only 6 months old. Cracked a nice bottle of wine with DHs best friend, who flew in to marry us... pumped and dumped and passed out ... then hosted Xmas at our house the next day... advice: don't host a major event at your home the day after your wedding. It's a bit much.
We went to a hotel my brother in law and sister in law got for us. They decorated it with rose petals, candles, and stocked it full of food and drinks. We ate wedding cake, drank, had sex and then slept in our matching PJ bottoms (I'm a huge dork). The next morning we had a late check out, so hubby went to get breakfast and we just lounged around.
@ivyvines6 I hope you had an amazing day! Congrats!!
Went to the nicest hotel in the city, got the honeymoon suite, and did the deed for the first time (for both of us). It was awkward and dorky and we were so young (I was 20 and he just turned 21) but it was so sweet and I wouldn't trade it for the world!! Then we took a long hot bath and slept for an eternity because our wedding reception was so crazy and fun!!
Our reception lasted until like 11:30 and afterward we met a bunch of our friends out. 90% of our guests were from out of town so it was nice to spend a little more time with them. We got back to our hotel at like 4:30 and woke up early for our gift opening the next day. We slept sooooo much on our honeymoon.
We went right to bed. I stayed by my mom's the night before and she snored so loud that I got like 4 hours of sleep. No joke. (My nephews slept over there one night and one woke my mom up crying. She was snoring so loud he couldn't sleep so she finally took my advice and got tested for sleep apnea. Spoiler alert, she needed a cpap!) Then we got up early for hair, makeup, photos. Spent the night dancing, drinking, dealing with drama at the reception. When we got to our hotel room, I cried. I was so tired and my dress was so heavy that I collapsed on the bed. DH took off my dress and tried to get out my 3,000 bobby pins and we slept. Only to get up at like 8 because my mom demanded we do a gift opening at her home. I was such a twat waffle throughout it that I finally hid out in the basement until it was time for everyone to leave. I just wanted sleep. I think that time frame showed DH hoe cranky I am on little sleep which is why he does so much with the kids in the middle of the night!
We stayed at the hotel attached to our reception venue. After our awesome reception everyone went back to the hotel. We had a whole floor so we went from one room to the next partying with friends and family. We eventually made it back to our room had sex and crashed, we had to leave at 6:00am for the airport to go on our Honeymoon. Apparently my grandmother was walking the halls until 4:00am with a bottle of whiskey in hand. Everyone seemed to have had a blast!
I love this thread! Theses are fun to read! My MIL drove us to our hotel (so romantic), and we were so tired we could barely stay awake for the 15mim drive to tell her the directions to get us there! When we were walking towards our suite there were such loud partying people in the room down the hall. I said “I hope those a-holes aren’t next to our room”, then paused at the door and heard familiar voices! We said: “wait, I think those a-holes are our friends”! We went in and partied for another couple hours with about 10 of our good friends, then passed out on our fake rose-petal covered bed—no sex (I don’t think?!)
These are hilarious!! Our wedding was in a college downtown the same night the volleyball team won the national championship! So the whole town was celebrating. Our reception ended at like 11:30 and We walked the half mile to our hotel through the downtown with all the bar people celebrating. So many comments-so many laughs. Also my dress had a solid layer of dirt on the bottom by the end. Once we got there, It took forever to get all of the bobby pins out and buttons undone on my dress and then didn’t wear clothes for quite a while by the time we realized what time it was everything was closed and we were starving so we found this weird frozen food vending machine and microwaved a burger and chicken Alfredo to eat. It was actually amazing. Crashed and then enjoyed watching the hungover relatives at the hotel breakfast the next morning!

Love all of the "real stories" that show what weddings are typically like instead of what is shown in the movies. We got married in Costa Rica with no guests (reception a month later at home). We got married at 11am, did pictures, then had an amazing private linner, then lots of sex and alcohol and a nap, then still had time to go celebrate at the pool and the natural spring hot tubs.
Congrats @ivyvines6!!! Hope you will add to this thread after all the fun!
Our reception ended at 11, so we all took the shuttle back to our hotel, and our friends hung out in the bar? or other rooms? or somewhere while MH and I checked into our room, had a quickie while I was still wearing my gown, then went back out and grabbed everyone and had an after party in our hotel room. Slept in the next morning, got the shit scared out of me when I got up the next morning to go to the bathroom and realized someone had crashed on the floor of the "kitchen" of our hotel room. We had brunch with some of our out of town bridal party people that were staying with us, opened presents, and didn't leave for our honeymoon until Tuesday. It was amazing.

Our wedding was on my family's farm. After the reception, we went to a hotel across town, changed, washed all the shaving cream and vaseline off my car, finally ate some leftovers, and fell asleep. No energy to DTD either lol!
We got married at a hotel downtown and it was a serious party. Everyone danced until 1am when they shut us down, so then we hit up a bar a few blocks away in full wedding gear. It was awesome - I like to say it's the closest I'll ever get to being a celebrity . Strangers were so excited to see us and kept congratulating us and buying us drinks. On the way home we grabbed a rickshaw to take us back to the hotel because the street was closed to cars, and everyone on the street started applauding and cheering for us! It was crazy, like something out of a movie.
Then we got back to the hotel room, took the million bobby pins out of my hair, had drunken enthusiastic sex and crashed. An awesome night!
We had our wedding at a small hotel, so we stayed the night there. After the wedding, we went upstairs and took a bath and drank a bunch of wine and had sex then passed out from exhaustion.
Hey I've not had access to wifi at our hotel, and we're so high up my phone doesn't know how to deal with life!
So so I can FINALLY say that after the reception we went back to our hotel room attached to the venue and opened our cards and gifts, then we had sex (like really good sex because it's been a few days thanks to wedding STRESS) and we played around in the hot tub for a bit. After that we went over to a family member's hotel room and hung out for a bit.
