UO Thursday | 11/2

I couldn't remember what day today was.

What's your unpopular opinion this week?

  • @krashke I think that's normal! With DD I never felt that love until I saw her at our 20 week ultrasound, and started feeling her kicks. With this one I'm being cautious in general, but I do feel more connected since seeing our babe squirming around on the ultrasound screen yesterday. It still doesn't quite feel "real" yet
  • Not sure if mine is even a popular opinion, but I can't stand it when people refer to their kids by there first initial. For example, "Z" for Zoe.
I mean, I get it if it's on an online forum where people aren't comfortable sharing that information in case of internet creeps.. but if it's in a group of friends or family.. like, just say your kids full name? Idk why it irks me so much lol
  • @Miz_Liz - That. What you said. Yes.

  • I get sort of annoyed when people keep commenting (not responding to others, but adding entirely new things) on daily threads like three days after they're done. Like, just save your thoughts/pictures for the next week's round!
  • @doxiemoxie212 I try not to do that (although I may be guilty), but I do have to think harder than I care to admit about what the date is!
  • @Miz_Liz LOL to Princess consuela banana hammock! I literally lol'd at my desk! I agree with you though...and to everyone, hello, I'm Heather!

My UO is I'm glad Halloween is over...its just not my jam
  • @hjungk84 same. Halloween just isn’t a favorite here either.

  • @dinodna3 I share the same UO. It is usually my go to one.

Mine for today- I loved the glucose drink which is good bc I had to do the 1 hr and two 3 Hr ones with DD even though I passed all of them bc she was big.

  • @Lilpenguin3 I like it too! Really sweet Gatorade! Yum!

  • My UO is that I like that Black Friday is on Thanksgiving now.  DH works for Old Navy and he was able to have dinner with me and my family last year (he's first Thanksgiving Dinner in a decade!) because he was able to stop by a few stores before dinner and we went to a few before dinner (he's a market manager so doesn't have 1 store with a set schedule- but they stagger the employees so some are in the morning and some are in the evening- more people get to have dinner this way). Plus I do all my shopping cyber Monday anyway- so I'm part of the reason the stores are trying anything to bring in more customers.

  • @dinodna3 TRUTH.

To add to the popular band hate: Eddie Vedder is terrible (not as a person, but as a singer).

  • @Miz_Liz or if your name is something like Dashaina and your hubs is a popular YouTube personality? lmao. It actually doesn't bother me to share my name or lifestyle or anything. I mean if you are willing to find us out here, don't laugh it has happened, then chances are you're really into seeing what we are doing and we're happy to share. Hee hee

@mytinc I agree about the same questions.

My UO is one time use plastics. It really drives me bonkers all the trash we make as a society when it doesn't have to be that way. For DD1's science lesson last week we explored the 5 or 6 plastic piles in the ocean... And it made me really sad to know that we're really not doing anything collectively to fix the problem. Water bottles, take out containers, etc. I avoid like the plague. I bring my own reusable containers to the restaurants from which we buy meals on the days we go, I generally avoid buying plastic  packaged products or I take them out of the container and leave them at the store. Don't laugh but I do this right at the register. My hope by doing this is that maybe others will see it and follow suit and then maybe grocery stores will communicate with their vendors about packaging. I generally buy glass or cardboard stored items and try to make most of our stuff from the most basic ingredients to avoid the packaging. With all the technology we have why aren't more things biodegradable by now? OK rant over.

  • Okay, I'm the weirdo over here listening to my my Michael Buble Christmas Pandora station on 11/2 (which part is more unpopular: loooving MB, while not being a 65 yo woman, or playing Christmas music way to early?)  :#

And @doxiemoxie212, totally agree with you on that one! Curious what the replies will be... (where's my popcorn  :) )
  • @MoonOverGoldsboro oo you really want to get things going today ;)
  • @doxiemoxie212 I know, I hit "post reply" on that and immediately regretted it.  :#

  • @doxiemoxie212 @MoonOverGoldsboro did either of you read that article about the guy who asks the one question that usually gets PLers backed into a corner? Basically he asks them if they were in a burning building and they could only save 1k live test tube embryos or a 5 y old child. What would they pick. They can't pick both or all perish including the person choosing. At least I think that was the gist of the question.

  • @Dashaina yep, I think that was a Twitter feed thing. Aces.

Like, listen, people are entitled to their, IMO wrong, opinions -- but at least have your logic hold weight when pressed.

@mytinc I completely agree. I have 2 friends IRL with whom I can hold a legit political /religion/money/sexual orientation type conversation. All others I generally avoid because they get very emotional and really make no sense apfter the first sentence. And these 2 friends have opposing views to me in all of the above mentioned topics btw.

  • @Dashaina Yep, I did see that! It can be very alarming for many people (not just limited to pro-lifers) when their arguments are followed to their logical conclusions.

  • I've already seen/heard several people complaining about people getting into the Christmas spirit "too early" so I guess my UO is I don't really care when people decide to start blasting Christmas carols. I'm not feeling particularly Christmas-y yet but I don't see why it would affect me if others were.

  • @MoonOverGoldsboro it is sad but very very true. And yes I agree not limited to PLers... This applies to almost any aspect of life in which you have the ability to choose.

At this point, I'm so confused about time I just feel like it should be Christmas year round. Like, wasn't it just Christmas? Like, let's just cut the BS and keep all the decorations up the entire year. What a hassle putting them up and taking them down and storing them must be for us collectively as a society. Think of the mental energy we'd save if we just left them all up.
  • @katelynrae86 Michael Buble has been a staple to my Christmas playlist for years and I'm 28!

@Lilpenguin3 While I wouldn't say I LOVED the glucose drink I found it's taste to be pleasant, nothing worse than flat orange soda. I had always heard it was so horrible so I was pleasantly surprised!

@krashke Same. Maybe after my first ultrasound I'll feel more connected but right now I'm just anxious because I don't really FEEL pregnant. I think I'm more in love with the idea of my DD having a sibling than I am with this particular baby.

  • Let's have some fun.

Unless you're out here stunting to abolish the death penalty or improve the affordability of healthcare in this country, you're not pro-life; you're pro forced child birth.

OU - I don't think potentially heated political debates are "fun" no matter which side you're on.  Most of the time people start politcal "debates" to push their agenda and tell people their view is right.  Not to actually discuss a topic with back and forth conversation and taking other people's views into consideration.

I think generally people (not saying you necessarily, but...) who say they don't like political debates come from a really privileged standpoint because they live a life in which the status quo is fine for them personally and thus political debates are not necessary for them personally.
@doxiemoxie212 Sorry for the long quote, I'll tag after this.  I certainly don't mind political debates when they're intelligent exchanges of views.  When people get heated and automatically defensive vs. being open minded I don't think that's "FUN".  I think that's disrespectful.  I don't like when people are pushing their agendas without consideration for the other side.

  • @doxiemoxie212 I don't enjoy sensitive topic debates, personally, because generally speaking my views offend many living in the status quo and they get very upset that I choose to not live/believe/agree with the inside the box life and that makes them immediately feel like I am judging them and/or telling them they are therefore a horrible person and thus leads them down the road of a very emotional and defensive debate that just makes me sad for there low self esteem or confidence in their choices. When in reality I tell people about our opinions and lifestyle to show those who are looking for an alternative that it is possible to go against the grain and succeed. I am also not trying to tell them that I know everything either.. Which I get accused of that a lot as well as my DH. Hopefully that makes sense.
