@angiek1 That is so cool! My family on my mom's side is from the Czech Republic and someone on that side has done a lot of the family history back pretty far.
I am annoyed that today is literally the ONLY cold and rainy day this week. And the rain is supposed to hit during trick or treat hours. Don't ruin this for DS! He is so excited!
Ok I just have to vent about my stupid lazy co-worker. I'm the fill in for the other clerks so the one who usually does the paperwork for someone to go to the clinic was out today. Someone came up and needed to go to the clinic so working with their manager I filled out the form for what they needed to be done. Lazy co-worker volunteered to take them to the clinic. Once they got there the clinic called asking a question about the tests needed (figured this would happen I don't do these forms a whole lot) but I did do the form right they just wanted to verify. 2 seconds after I got off the phone with the clinic lazy co-worker calls telling me the clinic isn't doing the right thing. I told her I just got off the phone with them and verified with them and she said it's still wrong. So I told her well let me talk to the 2nd in command of our facility who handles this stuff because I don't do this a lot so maybe I missed something. Well after talking to 2nd in command and the employees direct manager everything I did was right and what I told the clinic was correct. So I call the clinic and they tell me that the co-worker that is with the employee to get testing is adding to the confusion. I told them after speaking with 2 different managers what I told them earlier is correct and that they can disregard the co-worker adding to the confusion since she has no authority in this matter. I know I have driven a few people to the clinic before and I never get involved with anything unless they ask me for a telephone number or call someone at work about something. This girl is crazy, cause then she comes back and says that the clinic is disorganized and has no idea what they are doing.
Late last night there was a shooting near my work. I work near the University of Utah, and I guess a guy who had been camping in the mountains (campus is right next to a mountain range) attempted to car jack a student and shot him, the guy didn't know the student. The student is dead and the police are still looking for the guy who is on the lose in the mountains right next to my building. I was hoping they wouldn't have us come in, but they are open and I'm here now. I'm staying in the building all day and looking forward to the police catching this guy sooner rather than later. Edited to add they have a lot of police around here and multiple helicopters flying overhead looking for this guy.
@irenejean that is crazy. I hope they catch the guy too! Hopefully you have your own office so you can barricade yourself in there in case this wacko shows up.
Guys. FFTC? I've never had a cider doughnut, and hadn't even heard of them before all of you started talking about them. Nevertheless, I am totally craving them
Re: stuffing. I'm with @ladythrice - my mom makes incredible homemade stuffing with apples, sausage, celery, onion and sooooo much butter. I can't do the kind from the box in the face of that. Seriously, it'sy favorite food at Thanksgiving.
@dlammers That's so scary, I'm so sorry! FX it isn't serious! @angiek Genealogy is so cool! What a great gift idea! My Grandma had traced back out family a long, long ways, but she didn't really share her research, so I don't know much about what she found. @irenejean Scary! I hope they find him quick!

@ladythrice Alas, we Californians are deprived! I've never seen them anywhere, which makes sense, since we don't have the big apple orchards/cider mills that y'all have

@Dumbgurl04 Your co-worker is definitely a twat waffle Tuesday.
@irenejean Wow, that's crazy and scary. What a horrible things to have happened.
@dlammers I'm so sorry to hear about your medical situation. I can imagine how scary this is for you. I hope the doctors can give you some answers soon.
I realize this is probably more of a FFFC but my five year old is rubbing my stomach and talking to the baby *constantly* and it is driving me nuts. I feel very much of two minds on this one: part of me wanting to honor the legitimacy of my feelings and the other part of me that thinks it is so sweet and cute and that I should just be more patient. I'm prepared to tell strangers at the grocery store who try to do this to eff off but it's a little more complicated when my sweet big girl insists on doing it nonstop!

All the talk about donuts made me want one, so I got some this morning. Also I'm soooo exhausted from trick or treating last night that I pretty much just rolled out a bed put on a sweatshirt and my hair up. Still wearing the shirt I wore to bed last night and not wearing a bra.
They caught the killer yesterday afternoon. It was a relief to know he was in custody. I guess he and his wife had only been in Utah a couple days and the owner of the vehicle they were driving was found dead yesterday in Colorado (had been killed a few days ago, but they only found him yesterday), so they're suspects in that homicide too. I don't understand what makes people do things like this.
My email is blowing up with "early Black Friday doorbuster deals" and it's taking alllllll my willpower not to start shopping right this moment. Why must I be so tempted with sales??
H decided to work from home for a bit then take the rest of the day off. This always leads to an unproductive day and all of my plans went out the window. But yay for lazy family days.
@psuxray07 It's a rare one I guess. I don't know a whole lot about it. I have an appointment with an oncologist on Friday so hopefully I'll get more information then.
@dlammers my sister in law had a growth they thought was nothing removed from her uterus that turned out to be a sarcoma. It's been a hard road ahead of her bc her cancer is particularly rare. But her most recent screens were clear. One thing I learned from her in the process is the importance of great doctors. Whatever you can do to work with specialists who are knowledgeable about your type of cancer, do it. It's critical for you and the baby. I am so sorry you are going through this. You are very much in my thoughts and prayers.
Uh MH made me so mad this morning. Last night I made bow tie pasta and just melted some butter over it. Well it was a couple of hours later and I put the leftovers in the fridge to take to work today. We asked if it was ok to do that, I told him it probably was and I was going to reheat them anyways. Went to bed, when I got up in the morning and went to grab them out of the fridge they were GONE and I look in the sink and there was my empty container. Uh I hate how paranoid he is over everything to what I eat or drink to how i'm feeling.
@ekendall09 I didn't see an issue either especially since I was going to re-heat them. If I wasn't pregnant he probably wouldn't have said anything about it. He is SUPER paranoid about everything he won't even let me eat the queso from qdoba

It was only a few hours?? When I bring my food for lunch with me to the office I never put it in the refrigerator. I just leave it in my office until lunch time and then I go heat it up or just eat it if it's a sandwich or something. I would be VERY annoyed if I was you too. Maybe you should have a doctor talk to him at your next appointment lol
@Dumbgurl04 From a food safety point of view you have four hours at room temp (not necessarily consecutive) before you need to refrigerate, heat or throw away. This is according to food safety guidelines for restaurants, so maybe it would help to tell him that?

I don't know if it would help that much @jjmno1616. At our first appointment they gave us this bag with ALL this information about what meds I'm allowed to take for certain ailments, what foods to avoid and tons of other things. He still freaks out even if I show him the sheet that says it's ok. It's just the way he is but man it's so annoying.
There is an internet outage in my neighborhood right now, so frustrated. And I got sick this morning, first time in weeks. Just when I thought I was in the clear.
@Dumbgurl04 Butter? I don't use it in my home, but my parents and grandparents only put butter in the fridge at night to keep the cats out of it. lol Sorry your hubby is so strict about foods.

Ok I am thoroughly annoyed at work. My boss has been complaining about the payroll cost being too much lately and even cut back our admin people (they job share) to three days a week. Especially since Nov and Dec are slow months. Then we find out he hired someone to help with accounting. Uh what? First of all, you were just complaining about the cost of payroll and you hire another person?! Second, we don't need help. There isn't enough work for us during these months even...
i'm could cry i'm so happy. Today my company released an updated parenting policy which means instead of 2 weeks full paid leave + 6 weeks at 60% pay STD and the rest FMLA (all running concurrently so only 3 month leave and most less or no pay).....I'll now get 8 weeks full paid maternity leave (this is for dads too!) + an additional 8 STD with 100% pay. 16 weeks of full paid leave. I feel sad for moms in the company giving birth before Jan 1 but am thrilled to benefit from the change!
@ekendall09 WOW! That is amazing! I only get the 60% pay for STD and I will only get paid out for 4 or 6 weeks depending on if the birth is vaginal vs C section. I also have to exhaust all of my sick time and PTO. So I will get paid out for my own time off that I have earned but that's it! It's pretty crummy but I'm still just thankful to have 3 months off and the insurance.
ETA- I'm pretty stoked today because I just paid off a student loan this morning! Still have a long way to go but it feels good to see a little progress being made.
@ekendall09 holy crap, are you hiring?? Lol. That is amazing!! I love that they have it in place for men too. As shitty as most maternity policies are, paternity is terrible on average. Yay for companies moving in the right direction! I get the first 6 weeks at 60% pay (8 weeks if c-section) and the next 6 weeks of FMLA unpaid... and get paid out all of my vacation time at the beginning. It's not ideal but at least it's something. DH gets 4 weeks full pay so I'm super thankful for that.
@JJMNO1616. CONGRATS!!!! I've only paid off one of my million student loans so far but it's the BEST feeling.
@frenchiekinplusone i'm sure, they're always hiring Unfortunately it wouldn't help you as you have to have been with the company for 1 year to get the 8 weeks parent benefit. Everyone qualifies for the 8 week STD regardless of tenure which is nice. There's already been some feedback from some moms and dads due before Jan 1 when the policy takes place. I would cry If missed the new policy by a few weeks!
