Hypnobirthing

Is anyone in the group studying hypnobirthing? Did yo use it in the past with success?

For my first I used the Marie mongan method during labor and I found it really helped. There’s a good 8 hrs I barely remember bc I was using the techniques and listening to the affirmations and other meditations. I ended up needed a csection but I found it to be helpful for that process as well.

This time around i am using hypnobabies and hoping for a VBAC. If I end in a csection again so be it. I just love the meditations!

Re: Hypnobirthing

  • @btm013 I want to do hypnobabies this time around! I haven't done it in the past but one of my BFFs did and she swears by it. I need to order the kit... I'm also going for a VBAC (DS C/S, DD VBAC, #3 hopeful VBAC again!) and really have no desire for a med-free birth, but I would love the meditation and coping techniques given by following the program so I'm going to do it! ...I just need to order the dang thing!

  • I did hypnobabies and loved it. I think it would be great even if you don't plan to go unmedicated, since there are hours of labor to deal with before an epidural is available. It really helped me relax and made time go by so much faster. Plus practicing the sessions every day in my 3rd tri was very relaxing :)
  • @mountainsmama did you do the self guided hypnobabies, or did you do an in person class?

@ladythrice and @btm013 I'm hoping for a VBAC this time around too! Interested to hear how you all are planning/preparing. It sounds like @itsrandiyo is going to start a VBAC discussion.
  • @shireeallason I did the home study course. I did a few separate birth and baby prep classes with my DH so he could be more involved, and I read a ton of books, so the actual course work was pretty redundant for me (labor stages, nutrition, etc). But it was so worth it to get the recordings.
  • @mountainsmama Good to know. We have a few classes that are taught locally, but aren't ideal in the scheduling department for me. Did you do the most current home study course? Seems like there are a few options available, even some older versions on Amazon.
  • @ladythrice I’m all for an epidural! It became necessary after 8 hrs of pitocin and only progressing 1.5 cm! The meditations really did help me get through it though!
  • I have never even heard of this! I dont care to go un medicated, but I am also into this kind of thing, so im curious to learn more! Thanks!
  • @sjn00 definitely check it out. I think those who study it want an Unmedicated so be prepared for that discussion in the courses. I’m doing the home study hypnobabies and enjoying it. I look at it as another way to prepare for labor and delivery. Not necessarily the only way!
  • @shireeallason I had my daughter in April 2016 so my tapes are 2 years old, and I plan to use those again.
  • I actually did Calm Birthing with my second! It helped so much!!

  • @ladythrice you can find info about the home study course here: https://www.hypnobabies.com/hypnobabies-self-study-course/

And you can buy it here: https://www.hypnobabies-store.com/Products-Home-Study-Courses.html

I am not associated with this company in any way, just had a good experience using it. That being said, if you aren't already used to or interested in meditation/yoga/hippy shit like that, you might find it to be a little "woo woo" if you know what I mean ;)
  • I am so glad this thread exists. I have been thinking about looking into hypnobirthing, but I didn’t know anyone who had personally tried it so I was a little skeptical at the same time. With my first, the hospital offered birthing class was totally useless, so I’m glad to hear some of you had a good experience with hypnobirth, and also glad to hear about the Home study kits since I live in a small town where not many things are offered! I want to try to go unmedicated this time (had an epidural with my first after being forced to lay on my back for 2 hrs at 6cm). Thank you ladies for sharing your experiences!
