Inducing?

We have two children, and both entered the world on their own time: 2 and 4 days early. The doctors seem to keep bringing up ‘scheduling’ this one since delivery time on the first two was about 2 minutes total, 3 pushes.

Anyone been induced? How different is it than just letting it happen? We are now not living with family nearby so letting it happen naturally has its drawbacks.

Re: Inducing?

  • My mom went late with all 3 of us. She was only induced for one though (my middle brother bc he was already so big) and said the labour was a lot harder with stronger contractions. Go with your gut and do what you feel most comfortable with.

  • No experience with being induced, but personally, my plan is to avoid it. As long as baby is healthy, there aren't any concerns for your health (i.e., high blood pressure) and you aren't super over due (past two weeks), I would avoid it.

I don't understand or support convenience inducing...which this is borderline. Your delivery may have been quick, but my guess is you still labored for few hours and knew the babies were on their way.

If you induce, you run the risk of forcing baby out when they aren't ready, having a much longer labor, stronger/more painful contractions and it has a higher instance of leading to a c-section. I would suggest doing your own research and making an informed decision.
  • I am seriously considering it, although I have no personal experience.  I have five more weeks and am already in a ton of pain and discomfort.  I can’t sit.  I can’t stand.  I can’t sleep.  I don’t know how I can manage until 40+ weeks.  Another huge factor is that I’m not able to do much win DS1. I hate to see his quality of life go down.

I have heard that labor is more painful, but I’m pretty sure I had a lot of back labor the first time and I’ve never heard of a comfortable labor.

  • I wouldn't ordinarily think of it as an option, but I have a host of issues going on and I don't want to go more than 3 days overdue. I have severe carpal tunnel and swelling, which is really limiting what I can do. I would say to induce on my due date, but I need to get report cards done and my husband has a very important test (given only once every 3 years) the day after I'm due. Add that to the fact that my office will only induce on certain days of the week and I would be ready to go that Monday. I need special medication for clotting issues, so it's not something I can rush. Hopefully I get good news about my bloodwork today. That being said, if you don't have serious stuff going on and are just uncomfortable, well that's unfortunately the third trimester for you. But to each their own.
It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*
