@mileswithmyles that's hilarious! What did you tell him? It's more like pooping the baby out? Haha sorry kids just have such imaginations and their rational is pretty amazing!
So this is a semi related "kids say the darndest things" story. My sil was due in August and I was due in December. When we went to the hospital to meet the new baby, her 5.5 year old saw me and said "hey auntie, where are your babies?" He thought since we were both having a baby/babies that they would come at the same time. He was certain I would be in another room with our twins. It still makes me laugh when we talk about it.
We told the girls Saturday night. We showed them ultrasound pics of each of them and then showed the new baby. DH told them to guess and showed DD1 the date. It slowly dawned on her and then the girls got so excited. DD2 said, "we're going to name her Ariel!" I don't know why she has a name ready. I feel bad cause we're having a boy. Then they started dancing around and singing. It was really sweet. I'm still very scared of having 3. Seeing them so excited was great.
They also asked a million questions. DD2 wants the baby to sleep in her room. Thank goodness cause that was the plan!
DD1 is asking about how the baby comes out. I definitely need a trip to the library to find some books explaining it. As others have said, I don't think they need every detail, but I don't want to tell them things that are made up.
We were so excited to tell my 6 year old step son. He’s been asking us for a year to “order a baby” so he can have a baby brother or sister. I was expecting shock and awe, and hoping for a few moving tears. I set up a hidden video camera and we told him he is going to be a big brother. Literally no reaction. “Yeah, I know.” ”oh. how do you know?” ”i just know. I’ve always known. So when is it coming?” ”oh not till the end of grade one” ”what?! That’s in like 90 hundred years! K can we keep playing lego now?”
My girls are SO excited. My four-year-old went to school the next day and told everyone "My mom is having a baby and it's a SISTER!" (we don't know and plan to have it be a surprise) When I explained that there was a 50% chance it could be a brother and she would have to love it anyway, she just said "No thank you." So that's where we are.
