Ok, I don't know where to post this, it could go under questions for STM, but I know that not everyone wants a second child so I'm putting it into the Randoms for now.
This is going to be my last baby. I'm done. I have always known that I was a 2 kid mom, it's all I've ever wanted and I'll be 35 next June. So now I'm trying to decide Tubal Ligation or Complete removal of my fallopian tubes. I haven't checked with my insurance and the medical code or with my OB and what she prefers or recommends (she does know that I want to close up shop while I'm having my csection), As far as I know there isn't a family history of ovarian cancer, although I'm not sure that I would want to risk it if I have the ability to remove or decrease the probability of having it. So I'm just curious, those who are done and aren't going to go through birth control or natural planning, which of these two options are you thinking about? I know I'm doing one of the other and I'm totally ok with it being permanent because I wont regret the decision.
Yay!!!! They let me back in! I was having massive withdrawals!
@supercoolstephy I too am done after two. I personally will not be going the tubal ligation route, but if I was having a c-section I would consider it. If your family doesn't have a history of cervical cancer I think the benefits of leaving your ovaries intact is a good idea, or else you will be hitting menopause like, instantly. Having a newborn and that does not sound like fun. I am leaning towards a hormone releasing IUD, at least for now.
I wish I could join in on the cute girl clothes fun, but I am having a second boy, so I have been told to not go to crazy shopping for clothes by DH. He takes the fun out of everything!
@supercoolstephy my husband and I were kind of talking about that earlier today. This is our last baby as well. I have PCOS, I have a giant dermoid cyst in one of my ovaries right now and I’m also thinking about what’s best for me.
My husband is open to a vasectomy but I feel like, he’s only 29, what if something happens to me early or we end up getting a divorce? (not that we are even close to that right now, we are fine lol) I need to do heavy research on it because I’ll need surgery after birth for this monster cyst anyway.
Also @supercoolstephy are you having a repeat c section? I had one for DD but my doctor is giving me the option to try for a VBAC, and I’m also weighing in the pros and cons for that.
@agalvarado I am having a repeat csection. My pelvic archway is too narrow to have children vaginally so I knew after having DS that if I had a second that I would have to go that way. I’m really not sad about it since I am a planner and like to have dates planned (as much as one can plan for these things).
DH is not down with getting a vasectomy but even before I knew that I knew I wanted my tubes tied at the very least. DS was a bcp Baby and while this one is planned, I’ve heard about so many IUD babies. I really really do not want another baby after this. So I’m a-ok with a permanent solution for myself.
@egirl1025 from what I’ve read is that you do not go into a menopause state having your tubes removed. But of course that’s all based on google searches. I’m going to discuss with my ob so I know exactly what goes into it. I’ve just heard so many horror stories with ectopic pregnancies while have the tubal ligation that I’m a little more scared of that happening. Haha
@supercoolstephy can they takes the tubes without the ovaries? I guess I didn't realize that ovarian cancer can affect your tubes, but I suppose you can get lung cancer in your brain, so why not. I don't think just having the tubes gone would be an issue.
Bodies do weird sh!t...I heard of this woman who only had one tube and got pregnant from the opposite side ovary. Supposedly the egg took the scenic route. WTF?!
@supercoolstephy@egirl1025 So I'm not super well versed in this, b/c neither is an option I'm looking into right now. But I think it's only removal of the ovaries that can throw you into a menopausal state. Removing the fallopian tubes decreases your chance of ovarian cancer (from what little I've seen) but it doesn't sound like they remove the ovaries with it, just that for some reason the cancer seems to target the tubes. Good luck with your decision either way @supercoolstephy
DS1: Nov. 2013 DS2: Jan. 2016 DS3: Dec. 2017 Baby #4 on the way!
@egirl1025@KatieEl yes. That’s what I read. They remove the Fallopian tubes and leave the ovaries. Bodies are weird and it seems strange, right? Yeah. I’m not sure what I’m going to do but I’m thankful to have you guys to bounce things off of because I’ve got no clue which way I’d rather go.
@supercoolstephy thank you for sharing! Same here, I want a permanent solution as well, health-wise it’s a really bad idea for me to get pregnant again so I don’t want to rely on IUDs (and I can’t do BCP) I have so much research to do now
This is so lame but I just got an alert that my credit score went up and I'm so freaking excited! We were stupid and got ourselves in a pretty poor place credit wise and I'm busting ass trying to balance debt repayment with everything else so yay!
I had a super random, freaky dream last night. I dreamt my baby pushed her (in my dream it was a girl) little hand up and out through the top of my belly! Like, ripped a hole in it and everything, and that's how she was born. Apparently it didn't affect me at all (no bleeding or pain) and I just stood there holding her and looking her over. I noticed right away that she had about five tiny hands growing out of her wrist (in addition to her normal hand) and thought, "Huh. Weird." Then I freaked out because I realized she had been born way too early (even though looking at her she seemed to be about nine months old), and started running around like mad looking for a hospital. I found one and asked the volunteer in the lobby to point me in the direction of the emergency room so they could put my baby back in me! The volunteer instead called the ER, talked to someone there, then informed me that they were too busy to see me today; I'd have to make an appointment and come back tomorrow!
OMG, it was so strange and vivid and unlike any dream I'd had since my first trimester! Made me wonder if any more weird ones are in store as I get into the third tri.
Let me preface this by saying that I am at a place mentally
where I am so excited to be having a little boy (especially if this ends up our
last child), but @bainidhedub and @supercoolstephy you are making me VERY jealous
that you get to buy all the cute girl clothes. I want all of those. I’ll be at
Target looking at sweatpants
I also admire/envy all of you who know exactly where you stand re: wanting more children/not wanting more children. I'd say I'm 60/40 sure this is our last (partly because I'm old etc), but it would take 10 seconds to talk me into trying for a third, lol. DH thinks two and through, but I'm pretty good at convincing him of things
@EmilyLove25 I don't get to buy girl clothes, I'm just living vicariously through everyone who does! I'm not buying hardly any clothes because I still have a thousand boxes of DS's stuff in the attic.
First one, talk baby monitors to me. I want one where I can log onto my phone at anytime and access it. I have a friend that has the ibaby monitor and she loves it but Im wanting to know if there are others people love
and 2.... I keep having dreams that I forget to feed my baby Its really starting to worry me
@Peepster Apparently it is an old wives tale that says you are having the opposite of what you dream the baby is. Obviously, you now know what you are having, but it follows with the tale. With my DD, every dream I had before finding out, the baby was a boy, but I swore up and down the baby was a girl. This time, I had dreams of both, so ya know, tales. Also, add me to the crazy dreams. I don't remember the one I had two nights ago anymore, but I remember waking up and thinking, "that was the weirdest dream I have ever had... and I have weird dreams all the time."
@EmilyLove25 I am right there with you. Well, I am getting to the point of being excited with having a boy. It was hard at first because I know SO is done after this. I always wanted to have a sister, and I had a hard time knowing DD wouldn't have one (at least on my side) and SO only has boys, so I was hoping he would finally get his girl he'd always wanted. I am exited about having a boy now, but the cute girl things make me a little jealous.
I totally get your feelings, @EmilyLove25! I'm also very excited to have a boy (I was hoping for a boy this time around), but as I was packing up DD's clothes to make room for this LO, I got a little sad thinking about all the bows and girly things that I won't get to experience this time. I always walk through the boy section at Target, and like the clothes, but haven't been tempted enough to buy anything. With DD, I think I had bought about 50 things by this point. I'm also wondering if we're "two and through." After this LO is born, I will have one of each, and the baby stage is HARD for me. But, DH is adamant that he wants at least one more. We shall see!
I've been at work for 4 hours and haven't done a damn thing. Yikes.
In other news, a work from home policy is still pending at my company but my direct supervisor went ahead and worked with me directly and is going to let me work from home full-time for 4 weeks after my initial 6 weeks of PTO and then twice a week for a 6 month period with potential to renew for another 6 months. I wanted twice a week indefinitely but for now I'll take what I can get. Just glad to get that worked out and checked off the list!
@livingoffpbjs We have the Samsung Babyview monitor with the iphone app etc. I honestly have not used it on my phone yet, but I know it does that... I like it mostly because the picture is awesome and also because the range is good. I sleep in the basement a lot and DD is all the way on the third floor--but no issues. That said, I'm not an expert. Here's the link to it though: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Wisenet-BabyView-Monitor-SEW-3057W/dp/B06XRFVY36
Also, I promise you won't forget to feed your baby. He/she will not let you I'm not sure if you are breast feeding or what, but if you are, you'll be pulling that boob out every time you hear a whimper lol. He/she will have you trained!
@EmilyLove25@cyanope I am the opposite. I should save this for UO, but I really don't like little girls' clothing that much! I was kind of sad when I found out that I'd be having a girl for this reason. I think that little boys' clothes are the cutest, and that girls' clothes are over the top impractical/ frilly/unnecessary. I've already told my family no ridiculous bows or tutus.
@maueraa07 I love simple little girls clothes! Hate pink/ruffles/lace/bows. The best place I found to shop was Old Navy-lots of plain or patterned dresses/shirts/leggings. She also has a lot from the boys section, which is nice because now I have a bunch of stuff for this little guy!
@maueraa07, everything that @schaze said! Poor DD wore SO many boy clothes. But now I have a lot of "stuff" that will work for this LO. I also don't like pink/frilly/over-the-top stuff. But I do love me a good floral and a headband! DD lived in headbands until she figured out how to rip them off. I always purchased/made very simple bows attached to nude, nylon headbands. Now that DD is almost two (and lets me put bows on her again), they're usually just simple leather bows that I clip into he hair.
@maueraa07 same here and having a girl....good luck with other people...it's pink galore in my closet right now! Thankfully they are alll mainly sleepers so whatever...no one will see her sleeping but good lord the pink! Everything I pick out or really like is simple and uses a rainbow of colors not just pink. Second to Old Navy! All the stuff I like I have gotten from there from someone.
I know I posted about this in another thread a little over a week ago but I am SO excited/thankful/overjoyed/appreciative today. I work for a WONDERFUL company and with AMAZING people. My one year is 12/5 so I have minimal PTO. Quite a few people told me to set up a PTO donation bank (it works like this - if I make $4/hr and you make $8/hr and you give me 1 hour, I get 2 hours...) I kind of laughed but did it anyway thinking, no way this is gonna happen. I am looking at 4-6 weeks unpaid depending on the type of birth so I put in for 160 hours of leave donations to try to cover some of that. I thought if I get half of that, AWESOME. Well, as those of you that read the previous post I made might remember, one person alone told me he was going to give me enough to cover 2 wks. I was left speechless and almost cried in his office (poor guy). Well last week he emailed me to say his donation was rejected and he was only able to give me half of it. I was so confused!! So I called the leave desk to find out what was going on (they don't tell you when you get donations or anything it just shows up in your online account in 7-10 days). Apparently, when I submitted my request for leave my boss has to approve that I am actually using it for what I say... He immediately went in and donated 40 hours to me... which translates to.......... 120 HOURS!!!!!!!!!!!!! so, between TWO PEOPLE my 160 hours were covered My boss told me to put in another request so I put in another request to max out my PTO bank. The same guy who tried to give me 2 wks but was only able to give one, heard I did another request and put in to give me the other week. I am just so mind blown.
@Mudge85 I just teared up a little on your behalf. I remember being concerned and overwhelmed at the little bit of time I could afford to take off after my first was born. This program sounds amazing! And your coworkers are amazing as well!

@Mudge85 that is so awesome! I also just teared up reading how awesome your co-workers are. So happy for you.
My baby shower is Nov 4th so I haven't bought much clothing myself. I wanted to wait to see what we got, also I don't go to the store that frequently. I think November and early December are going to be my clothing shopping sprees.
My friend is a developmental pediatrician and she was telling me she cringes when she sees headbands on babies because their skulls are still forming/soft. She recommended only putting them on for pictures and special occasions but not daily or for long periods of time. I think that goes well with my style.
An early 20 something made a comment the other day about how much she still loves wearing bows. I totally judged in my thoughts while making an everyone has their preferences statement.
On the headband discussion. I also HATE big bows and never put anything on DD that left a mark. For those that are worried about that, I only ever put thin, nylon bands on DD. See example below. I just bought them in bulk on Etsy and added my own felt flowers/bows and small fabric bows. Cheap and easy...plus no "restricting" of DD's head! Also...DD is wearing an Old Navy boy's onesie in this photo. Haha.
I've got a monthly subscription to Little Poppy Co for monthly bows for her. I put DS in one and they are so nice a stretchy, which I'm sure his giant noggin stretched it out to heck. I also have saved a few shirts from DS for her to wear. I need to go through the rest of his clothes to see if there is anything else I want to save for her. Boy clothes is so fun. I love the easiness of jeans and a t-shirt.
