DD picked out a dragon costume at Target and plans on roaring a lot.
We live in a newer subdivision with a ton of kids and flat quiet streets - we get a ton of TOTers.
Since DD has a severe peanut allergy, I love the teal pumpkins. Sadly, due to the uptick in production for the holiday, a lot of traditionally "safe" candy is made in facilities with peanuts for Halloween, which is a no-go for Halloween. She's a real trooper about it and of course we accept that most houses aren't going to have safe stuff for her and buy a few things she can have, but it's so nice when she gets stuff that is safe for her.
I don’t have kids but I’m going as Leia for Halloween at school. All the teachers are dressing up Star Wars so it should be pretty great
I have mixed feelings about the teal pumpkin stuff. My brother is a severe peanut allergy so I grew up very aware of allergy kids. However, they wanted him to learn from a young age to recognize the things he could and could not have because so many kids get to high school or college and, never having known what peanuts are in or what to do when eating around people or food with nuts in it, have many reactions their first few months. They used Halloween as a learning opportunity to grab the candy he could have or trade the candy with his siblings so he’d have what he wanted. It wasn’t about him missing out on the opportunity but making the best of it and he did pretty well with t for the most part. I think the teal pumpkin is cool but I also, as a teacher, have some pretty severe helicopter parents whose kids have no idea how to manage their allergies when things like teal pumpkins aren’t available. So mixed feelings for sure...

@allie0320 I agree, managing the allergy is essential! DD is 3.5 and she knows to check with grown ups if she is offered something she hasn't had before. I can't imagine not making your kid their own advocate with something so serious.
There is literally a Daniel Tiger episode teaching kids how to help manage their food allergies. My SO's nephew is allergic to every type of nut, and has a dairy sensitivity. His parents have been teaching him how to navigate it since he was little. They love the teal pumpkin trend, but they still have him help them check all of his candy each year. He's 11 now, if that matters.
@ladystinson, I agree! One of the things I love about this age is the way he mispronounces things! He says an "f" sound for "th" and I think it's adorable.
My kiddo was a butterfly this year. We did trick or treat at the Zoo this past weekend and trick or treating at the medical college affiliated with my husband's residency program today. She had such a good time. We won't be participating in any other trick or treat events this year. Just one Halloween playgroup yet.
Love all the Halloween fun!!! Traditions and holidays are super important to me. My parents did a great job and I hope to do the same for my kiddos. My boys are both going to be dinosaurs. Dh and I will be paleontologists. We started dressing up with them last year. It made it really fun. We get a lot of trick or treaters so we leave a bowl. I try to do a variety of candy and toys. Kids can choose what they like.
Daniel Tiger is the best thing ever. @allie0320 do you remember Mr. Rogers Neighborhood? They made a cartoon on PBS of the land of make believe and each episode is about learning a lesson. We literally have a song to sing about everything to help the toddler. It actually got him to try new food, tell us when he's mad and use his words, and to relax before bed.
My kiddos are going to be a witch (she got to pick this year) and my twins are going to be dragons. We usually do family costumes, but we're clueless what to do to match them this year.
We go out trick or treating, so I have no idea if kids show up to our house, but I doubt it. Our old house had 300+ trick or treaters, which was tons of fun!
We just give candy to our niece abd nephews, usually whatever comes in a candy bar mix!

Not to mention potty training! We're not quite there yet, but I've been using that song for diaper changes because J hates stopping for them.
I still say what would Daniel do and sing "stop and go right away" to my 3.5 yo (who potty trained by 2) when she seems like she might be tempted to hold her bladder even though she knows she has to go, lol. We have a book of Daniel Tiger stories and my almost 2yo is really liking the one where Daniel gets a little sister.
We trend to stay at home and do ducking apples, games and indoor fireworks. DS loves the trick or treaters coming and has been asking for fireworks since we did it last year!
it is their playgroup day do they will go dressed up as knights and there will be a party. We have some foam swords and shields and I have made them tunics to match. Need to get to work in chain mail and crowns still! we will probably carve pumpkins in the afternoon and maybe make some Halloween themed biscuits or something if there is time. Then do the party games and fireworks in the evening!
