This thread is for those who are trying to maintain physical activity throughout pregnancy. It can be walking around the block, hitting the gym, training for a marathon, and everything in between.
There is no physical activity too small during pregnancy.

What type of activity/activities have you been doing?
Kickboxing gym and lifting my toddlers.
How are you feeling about your activity?
Still feeling pretty good. Got released to start back up at 8 weeks (after 4 weeks out) and was told to take it easier until 10 weeks. I plan to slowly extend my workout back to an hour in the next couple of weeks instead of staying at the 30 minutes I've been doing.
Do you need any extra push from us this week?
Perhaps! I took off Wednesday because my body just didn't feel up to it. Pre-pregnancy I would have been disappointed in not going, but I'm trying hard to listen to my body more. I'm hoping to go tonight, but who likes going to the gym on a Friday night?
Questions, raves, rants, concerns?
My only "rave" is that my bright idea to buy a little tighter belly bands to work out in seems to have paid off. I still have giggle from my twin pregnancy and hated it bouncing around at the gym. Not for vanity reasons, but because it felt like it was making this bean bounce too much even though I know that's not logical. So I've started to wear them and feel more comfortable with movement when at the gym.
GYKY- What got you into doing this specific workout/activity?
I was way too over weight and was having problems keeping up with my kids. I looked at their 1st birthday pictures and cried at any that accidentally included me because I was avoiding the camera. I didn't want to avoid those moments anymore. So I looked at different options and knew a normal gym membership has never worked in the past. We looked at trainers and couldn't afford them. Then I found this kickboxing gym that is super close to our house and offered free trial workouts. So I went and fell in love with it. There is always a trainer there to push you and the owners are some of the nicest people I've met. And they notice when you don't come in and they check in to see if all is ok. When I told them I was pregnant and wouldn't be there for a month, they suspended my membership so I didn't have to pay for that time off. Such a sweet thing to do! And they're excited about our pregnancy with us because I've openly talked about our fertility struggles and they knew we were going back in to try again.

What type of activity/activities have you been doing? I’ve been trying to run, walk, and do yoga. Key word being trying.
How are you feeling about your activity? Not great. I’m too tired or nauseous a lot of the time after work, but it’s starting to get a little better. I have an easier time on the weekend when work isn’t sucking all my energy.
Do you need any extra push from us this week? Yes! Someone hold me accountable for three work outs this week.
Questions, raves, rants, concerns? Rave- my bff had her baby last night! I can’t wait to meet him today.
GYKY- What got you into doing this specific workout/activity? Yoga started in January with stress management. Running started as weight loss, but now it’s something I truly enjoy.

What type of activity/activities have you been doing?
Before getting pregnant I was almost through C25K and feeling really good about my fitness. But, I had a lot of bleeding from a vanishing twin and pain from a cyst for the first couple months of this pregnancy, so I was scared to be too physical. Wasn't going to keep running either way, because my heart rate would go way up even when I wasn't pregnant. Now that I've had a successful NT scan and baby's looking good at 12 weeks, I plan to get back on the wagon. I have a few prenatal fitness DVDs, including barre and pilates, and we have an elliptical and a rowing machine that we got back when we started trying to get pregnant because we knew they would both be safe to use. Hopefully I'll start back up this weekend!
How are you feeling about your activity?
Not great so far since I haven't been doing much. I do walk basically everywhere since I live in a city, so I easily get 10,000 steps every day, but I haven't intentionally worked out in a long time and I get winded quickly.
Do you need any extra push from us this week?
No, I think I'm pretty motivated myself now that I'm not as paranoid!
Questions, raves, rants, concerns?
Any favorite prenatal fitness dvds or YouTube videos? I have Suzanne Bowen's barre one (awesome) and Caroline Sandry's pilates one (not challenging at all at the moment, but guessing it will be in the third trimester). I also like some of the PopSugar Fit Pregnancy videos on YouTube.
GYKY- What got you into doing this specific workout/activity?
Well, I started working out because I was my heaviest I've ever been in my wedding photos and I hated looking at them. It was definitely because I was also my happiest, but I still wanted to get healthier! When not pregnant, my preference is definitely group sports, like soccer, since I don't get as bored, but pregnancy got me into more low key workouts like barre, which I like as well

What type of activity/activities have you been doing?
Last week was the first week I got back to working out 5x a week since scaling back to 2-3x while nauseous and exhausted for about a month and a half. MWF I lift for about 45 minutes and then do a 30 minute HIIT class called MX4. TTH I lift for 30 min then do a dance fitness class so I can twerk for an hour
How are you feeling about your activity?
I love what I do but some days are harder than others to push through feeling awful. It's always worth it, though.
Do you need any extra push from us this week? Just slap my hand away from the carbs! The last 10 months I've really cleaned up my diet with two rounds of Whole30 but of course pregnancy is testing my resolve.
Questions, raves, rants, concerns?
Does anyone use a good support band later in pregnancy? I can use my belly band to support the jiggle now but I get such a big belly so fast that I'll need something more soon.
GYKY- What got you into doing this specific workout/activity?
After my second baby turned 1 and I still was 20lbs from pre-pregnancy weight I was just feeling huge and weak so Jan 1st I started the Whole30 and my 5x a week workout routine. The 30 minute MX4 class I take is my jam. It's short and sweet and I've never sweated like that in my life, and even 10.5 months later it challenges me.
The dance class I go to is all hip-hop/pop with some classics thrown in and it is so fun- I call it my "dessert" workout.

What type of activity/activities have you been doing?
OrangeTheory Fitness and jogging
How are you feeling about your activity?
i was feeling pretty good, even though I knew I wasn't performing at my usual standard (but I'm totally ok with that), had to take 3 weeks off and just got back but then had a business trip. So only have worked out twice this week.
Do you need any extra push from us this week?
Nope.
Questions, raves, rants, concerns?
Just annoyed that I could finally get back to working out to then not be able to bc of travel.
Also, relaxins, it's too early for you, GTFO.
GYKY- What got you into doing this specific workout/activity?
I have been a jogger for a long time but we recently moved and the summer sees 100+ way too often. It was too hot to run outdoors so I started looking for something indoor. A new OTF was opening so they were doing a bunch of free classes so I gave it a try, thinking I'd never join bc it's pretty expensive, fell in love and am hooked.
What type of activity/activities have you been doing? Nature/forest walks, afternoon walk, there are 2 sets of stairs from my kitchen to my bedroom - that's a workout for me in the morning!
How are you feeling about your activity?
Sad, before IVF I was cycling and rowing (home machine). I couldn't exercise for months and put on weight from hormones so I'm just about to walk now. I don't feel taking up either activity now would be okay since I've lost the fitness there. When I'm 12 weeks I'm going to go to prenatal Pilates at a studio that's a free houses down. Just wanted to wait for everything to be ok to get back to exercise. I went with my friend last year to a private class and the instructor did some amazing muscle stretches of all the pelvic area, we also sat on a hard ball (baby's head) on pelvis and went through some contraction exercises.
Do you need any extra push from us this week?
I feel pretty annoyed that I could have been pg when in a much better physical condition - basically the reason I was working out, but IVF really kicked my butt. I feel bad for baby he has a less healthy home now..
Questions, raves, rants, concerns?
I tried to get hubby to make us go on arvo walk - together time, and he always forgets, and on the walks he's not into talking to me? I don't know why, it's the perfect time to chat.. he'such an introvert..
GYKY- What got you into doing this specific workout/activity?
It's easy, I live in the city but near a nice walking track
10 weeks 6 days
What type of activity/activities have you been doing?
This week just walking and stretching. I too am having sciatica issues. I would get a flare up 2-3 times a year but now that I’m pregnant it hurts almost daily.
How are you feeling about your activity?
Not great. I only worked out 2 days. Really wanted to hit 3 but I lost 3 lbs this week. (A little fast, but I didn’t change anything. Honestly I’m thinking it’s because I’m finally having regular BMs again) my dr said that she’s ok with me losing up to 10 lbs in the first two trimesters due to my weight so I’m pretty pumped about the loss.
Do you need any extra push from us this week?
I also want to get 3-4 workouts in so next week you all better be like “ok b*tch did you move your butt??”
Questions, raves, rants, concerns?
not really. DH will be out of town next week which actually might make it easier. He’s a worrier and hovers when he’s home.
Anyone do spin class? I stopped when we were TTC but now I’m thinking I might start it up again.
GYKY- What got you into doing this specific workout/activity?
Oh boy. I’ve been obese my whole life. Honestly I’ve been working on losing weight for two years. I’ve lost about 60 lb in 2 years and it just feels so slow but my habits have changed drastically so that’s what counts.
@mileswithmyles I also want to get 3 workouts in next week. I can be your accountability buddy because I have no excuse. I’ve been a little tired but not enough that I should wimp out of at least a short walk.

What type of activity/activities have you been doing?
Honestly not much at present. I'm joining this thread to try to motivate me, I hope that's ok! H and I have gone for walks a few times but I'm so low energy and sick it's hard to get going. My mother and I have plans to go to yoga together, and I hope a normal class will be okay if I let them know I'm knocked up.
How are you feeling about your activity?
I feel lazy! See above!
Do you need any extra push from us this week?
Definitely, I would love suggestions for how to get moving when so so tired. Also ideas for low impact stuff a pregnant lady who wasn't very active prior to pregnancy could start up.
Questions, raves, rants, concerns?
Most of the advice regarding fitness during pregnancy says you can keep doing what you did before pregnant. Well sadly I was also a lazy bum before pregnancy, so it's hard to figure out what would be safe to take up now. My doc mentioned walking and yoga, which is better than nothing, but I feel stupid for not working on it before this.
GYKY- What got you into doing this specific workout/activity?
I got into being a lazy ass from long practice and dedication. My motivation to get in shape is I was already a bit overweight before getting pregnant, and I'm worried what I'm gonna look like at the end if I'm totally sedentary. Plus going through labour, being big, etc while in bad shape seems like it would be hard!
What type of activity/activities have you been doing? OTF, walking the dogs, lifting weights at home (mostly squatting)
How are you feeling about your activity? I like what I am doing, just hate the low frequency right now. Once I am feeling less sick and tired I will be able to get back into it.
Do you need any extra push from us this week? Nope, just need to start feeling relatively human again.
Questions, raves, rants, concerns? Still confused about this whole "pregnant women should only lift 20lbs" thing, so I am going to talk to my OB about it this week.
GYKY- What got you into doing this specific workout/activity? My friend introduced me to OTF and I love it because I lack serious motivation. My husband is really into lifting, so we have a well equipped garage gym so that helps, too.
What type of activity/activities have you been doing? Kickboxing while TTC (and first few wks), running sporadically, and now barre daily.
How are you feeling about your activity? I was feeling pretty good, but I just changed barre studios today and the new barre (Bar Method) is just not challenging in comparison. The first barre (Studio Barre) is great, but there is a lot of work on your back so I wanted to switch studios as I get further along.
I'm pretty disappointed and think I'm back to the drawing board on what group class workout I want to do daily. Maybe yoga? Maybe Orange Theory like you ladies...though I heard that is pretty intense?
Do you need any extra push from us this week? I just need to run more now that my barre studio is a flop (and I'm too cheap to have two gym memberships the same month).
Questions, raves, rants, concerns? Rant: I guess it doesn't really matter any more since I won't be sticking with this studio, but the new barre gym requires a doctor's note if you are pregnant. My OB refused to give me one until he vets the studio
GYKY- What got you into doing this specific workout/activity? Hm, I think pretty much everything I do active now is because my friends made me go to classes or try running and then I got addicted. Thanks, friends!

@bumpemma, the ivf meds and over hormones are the worst! I was really nervous I wouldn't feel up to working out once we started our FET. I even spoke to some of my trainers and said they needed to keep pushing me once I started even if I complained about my injection sites hurting. I got them all worked up for nothing!
AND your baby had a great home to live in! It's momma loves them so much she was willing to go through pain, needles, testing, and a few thousand others things just to house them. That's a lucky baby.
@bjkay22, I agree to wait until the baby has come and use it to help get back into better shape. But seriously, I love my gym. It really gets out a lot of frustrations and I feel more confident when I take the kids in public. I feel like if someone tried to kidnap one, I could kick their ass. It's empowering to me.
@thunderberry of course it's ok! Welcome!
For me, I started to get more energy when I got back to my workouts. I thought I'd be super exhausted after my first few times back, but it did renew my energy. And don't feel stupid for not starting before now. The past is the past, but the future is what you can look forward to changing.
@kpc914, report back about what your OB says. I should ask mine next week. I don't lift majorly, but we do weights at the gym and I was up to 15 lbs a hand for double curls.
@suchaglencoco I have an appt on Thurs. will report back. :-)
What type of activity/activities have you been doing? Walking, hiking, biking. Today was a four mile bike ride towing the boys in the trailer with the dog hitched to my bike.
How are you feeling about your activity? Fine
Do you need any extra push from us this week? My dog is my pusher
Questions, raves, rants, concerns?
GYKY- What got you into doing this specific workout/activity? I've always been active and outdoorsy, part of the reason we got a dog was to push us into continuing to be more active. And after having kids, I had to give up/reduce a lot of my hobbies, but this one I've been able to keep up with.
I lost 40 lbs over the course of a year and a half and kept it off for 5+ years. I gained 15 back when I went through the stressful experience of losing my job when the company I work for shut their doors, then my new job was a desk job.
I never shook off off the last ten pregnancy pounds from last time but plan to after this one, as it's our last.
How far along are you? 10w3d
What type of activity/activities have you been doing? Hiking, walking (my dog), yoga
How are you feeling about your activity? I feel good, just wish that I could get to the gym more. When I go hiking, I can tell the difference now that I'm pg. Its like being in a very high altitude, lots of panting.
Do you need any extra push from us this week? No, any time I have a chance, I do go to the gym, its just that I've been so exhausted, work takes me about three times as long as usual, if I can do it at all.
Questions, raves, rants, concerns? A few of you have mentioned the belly bands, what are they for, what do they do, do I need one?
I was only doing yoga since I found out I was pg and I have been taking it easy. I'm looking forward to doing spin and Barre after my NT scan.
I know we're not supposed to lay on our back but what off we are propped up on our elbows? Is that still bad?
GYKY- What got you into doing this specific workout/activity? I decided to join a gym that had yoga, Barre, and spin so I just do all the classes. Hiking and walking my dog are things I started doing regularly when I got a puppy.
@thunderberry Walking is underrated and so good for you! Start with 10 minutes out and back. Work your way up to 30 mins out on back. It doesn't matter if you are late to the game, starting anytime is still good!

What type of activity/activities have you been doing?
I've been running around 5x a week. It's been my goal to do prenatal yoga.. but I've done that a whopping twice. I really want to start getting better about that. I want to work on my hips. I also try to do 20-30 minutes of strength training after my runs but I've been sucking at that too. I need my gym membership back to hold myself accountable in that aspect.
How are you feeling about your activity?
See above. I'm doing alright but I can improve for sure!
Do you need any extra push from us this week?
I'll be honest I probably won't be great this week since it's my first week back at the "bedside" with nursing. I'll call it good if I still keep up my running.
Questions, raves, rants, concerns?
nah.
GYKY- What got you into doing this specific workout/activity?
Nothing specific. I've always been a pretty active person.
I hung out with a 7-month pregnant friend yesterday who hasn’t worked out since before pregnancy and she was saying how she regrets not starting earlier since now she’s pretty uncomfortable. So I’m glad we’re holding each other accountable early

I'm currently waiting for DH to get home to take over kid duty so I can go. I'm already dressed and have my bag ready. Bonus is DH and I got into it this morning and I've been pretty angry with him all day. Maybe going to hit something repeatedly will help calm me before we actually talk.
Now all I want to do is take a nap.

And the trainer told me to aim for his face when he wore hand mits so that also helped.
So it's back to the gym tonight with a little less weight on my shoulders.
Went for a jog this morning, did 4 miles almost a minute per mile over my usual pace but I'll take it.
My OTF class went pretty well on Monday but "hell week" started Tuesday. A little scared for my Friday class...
