Re: GTKY: Post Partum Life

  • @livingoffpbjs totally just re-read your post! I think pregnancy brain is in full force! Ha... Glad you can ease back into things!!

  • My SO still hasn't even asked about his company's policy. The only thing he will tell me is that he plans to take some time off. No clue if that means a day, a week, or what. Come on SO!
  • @cyanope my DH is like yours! He likes his time off and honestly, if one of us was going to stay at home it would be him lol.

  • DH's company doesn't give any official time off (they get 1 sick day a year... woo) but when DS was born I think he took a full week off (4 days of which we were at the hospital). But once we were home, for the next 2 weeks or so he would help me overnight/in the morning and then straggle in to the shop for a few hours. October is busy for them but they were pretty understanding, and by comparison January tends to be dead, so the real challenge is more likely to be being allowed to work what hours he's up for and not having them declare the shop closed for three weeks like they did in August.

  • My plan for after baby comes unfortunately revolves around clearing my teaching my credential though the state.  I am planning on working until the Friday before my due date to make the last credential meeting of the semester.  If I don’t make it I have been told I won’t be able to clear. I am taking six weeks then going back to work.  I have to burn through my sick days and then I have to pay for my sub...$135 a day.  After I get the credential cleared in May I plan on taking Family Bonding till the end of the school year.  For the time inbetween we have family flying in to take care of baby.  We are very lucky and grateful everyone is willing to help out.

After the summer DH and I have not decided on what we are going to do.  Childcare is so expensive and I would really like to stay at home with baby for a year or two.  We just have to crunch some numbers and figure it out.  At least the credential will be cleared and if I want/need to keep working I will be able to.
  • Mobile is finally working again for me!

My job is miserable but the family benefits cannot be beat. I have unlimited PTO so my last day of work will be December 22 (I’m due Jan 20th). I will get 12 weeks maternity leave at 100% (14 if I need a c section). I’ll probably be going back to work afterwards but my husband is open to me staying home. Things might be tight but we would get by. I’m torn because i don’t know if I’m the SAH type or if I’m just enticed because I hate my job so much ...

My husband is a teacher and gets 2 weeks paid paternity which was so great last time. I’ll also be on leave for his February and April vacations so that’s 2 more weeks together ♥️
