Ages (you and SO): I'm 31, DH is 36

How many months have you been TTC? This is month 1

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)? Not enough. OPKs only this month.

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.)

Hello there! It is nice to be back on TB. I have one son who was born in March 2016 and I was very active on my BMB and the tri boards back then. Now DH and I are TFAS and I hope it happens soon! Because I still do not STTN since having my son, I don't even know if I can temp accurately so I have not tried this cycle. I credit temping (along with other things) with helping me get KU the first time!

    Thanks for having me!

ETA - forgot to mention, I see a lot of people with their siggys hidden (spolier alert style) - should I do this too? Are my previous BMB badge and ticker a no-go here? Thanks.

  • @ecwk I think a lot do it out of consideration for those struggling with TTC, but I don't think it's forbidden or anything. It certainly wouldn't hurt anything to have it in a spoiler :) It was nice of you to ask about it! Welcome to the board again! I think I recognize your sn from back in the summer of 15'. Did you post a lot? I  was mainly a lurker except in the dailies.

  • Ages (you and SO): I will be 28 in December and hubby is 28

How many months have you been TTC? This is our first month

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)? Not enough... just got off birth control pills 2 months ago so it's difficult to understand my cycle yet.

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.) We have one son (he'll be 2 in December) two kitties, and I finally switched to a much slower pace job in the mental health field in May so that has been a complete blessing.

We were insanely lucky to conceive on the first try with our son and of course I'm hoping it'll be that quick this time around but for whatever reason I do not have a good feeling about it. I'm thinking I'm 11ish DPO today and all BFN so far. I actually feel guilty getting so worked up about it since I know people who struggle for so long to get pregnant but I feel like I've lost control of my brain! I've been lurking for a while now :)

  • @SkilledSailor thank you very much I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for that one!
  • Ages (you and SO): 27, DH 26

How many months have you been TTC? 4 months

TW- loss: We had a loss in August. End TW

Currently benched by my OB as I am homozygous MTHFR (yes, I do swear in my head any time I type or say it) and she wants to do some further testing to see which variation I have and what the protocol should be.

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)? BBT, Green tea, PNV, cutting back on overall caffeine as I probably drink way too much, and learning more about all the acronyms.

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.)

The past 4 years I taught junior high science. DH and I recently moved across the country this summer and I'm taking a hiatus from teaching for the time being but will be subbing in the local district. I love to cook and bake which is problematic as DH is a Type 1 diabetic. :p He is an avid cyclist partly to keep his BG in check. Our third date was after his first century (100 mile race...).  We have a 2ish year old border collie that we rescued named Luna. We refer to her as our broken border-- she refuses to play fetch, run around, and is a bit lacking in the intelligence for breed standards. Regardless, she's an absolute doll and I love her a ridiculous amount.

Pic in spoiler because my resizing attempts didn't want to cooperate.

  • Hai, @ecwk ! Good to see you here!

    Join us in TFAS!

@JLS12JSP  feel free to join us in TFAS as well!

@lunapup greetings from a fellow former junior high teacher. People think we're crazy, but I say it's the Kindergarten teachers who really have the wild job!

@CraftyG I'm sorry for your loss. I hope your stay here is short.

  • @lalala2004 thank you! I will definitely need to join!

@rallykat14 ditto to the binge watching TV!

@ecwk how is the OPK going so far? I'm thinking about doing that next month (negatively assuming I'm out this month already)

@lunapup that pup is adorable!! So dang cute!
  • @lalala2004 I always told my kids they were kindergartners with a larger vocabulary... But I wouldn't trade them.

@JLS12JSP  Thanks! We think so too.

  • @lalala2004 hi girl!!!!!!!! How are you?? I will join you there! <3

@JLS12JSP I started testing around CD 17 and had negatives and around CD 21 I had an almost/not quite 100% positive OPK. Maybe I missed my surge, who knows. The following day the test line was significantly lighter so I am presuming that was my O day (I know, I know, it's not for certain). I already assume I am out this month. BFN this morning but still no AF on CD 39. Le sigh.

  • @lunapup  Welcome!  I love to cook and bake too.  We will have to exchange some recipes at some point!  ;)

  • @CraftyG so sorry for your loss. I’m a nurse as well, wanted to wish you luck with school and the NCLEX!
  • @ecwk fx you're not out this month! I totally feel you though... definitely feeling AF symptoms big time today and I'm DPO 12 with a low cervix so I know it's any day now I'll be getting it. It sucks feeling out before it's confirmed because there's still always a glimmer of hope!
  • @lunapup if you have any tips for cutting back on caffeine, I’d love to hear them. I am struggling with this coffee addiction!
  • @mrs_drc_rn I know it wasn't directed at me but I absolutely love (and am addicted to) coffee! I am officially on only decaf for a month now. I started by using regular coffee and adding in decaf grounds too. Then day by day I slowly increased the percentage of decaf and evetually switched to 100% decaf. I also use tons of creamer so the coffee flavor isn't necessarily the kicker for me.
  • @JLS12JSP thank you! Maybe I’ll switch myself over to half-caf. It’s so hard working night shift, coffee is my savior!
  • @mrs_drc_rn Second the half-caf. Most decaf tends towards not being all that great. If you can find someone in your area who does roast, fresh roasted decaf isn't all that bad. My dad picked it up as a hobby in the last 5 years and it really helps a lot.
I'm also one of those weird people who can make an M&M pack last an entire week, the normal sized ones.

  • @mrs_drc_rn when I switched to decaf, I found my dependency was largely psychosomatic. Turns out I mostly just needed the taste of coffee to become alert. May not work for you, but it's worth a try!

That said, I haven't given it up for this round of TTC. I'm way more sleep deprived, now.

  • @jrm_14 I never realized that about decaf. It’s seems like you’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t; like you said, there’s no clear right answer. I think I need to just cut back on my ounces a little and start making more coffee at home. On work nights, I just feel like I NEED that XL from DD.
  • @MrsBunz I was wondering where you disappeared to! Glad to have you back but sorry it means you are still here...

  • @MrsMiller8588 Thank you. I was a little TTC fatigued (which seems so silly since it was only cycle 3), and we had a really busy month and I kept forgetting to check in, so I decided to try and relax as much as I could and not focus on TTC (still temping and using opks) per my mother's advice and see if it happened. It didn't, so now I can post away and  still tell my mom I took her advice.

@jrm_14 I had heard the same thing. TW child**I tried to cut it out when pregnant with DS and ended up with withdrawal headaches so bad that my midwife was like, dude. drink 12 oz a day a stop torturing yourself.**End TW

I think its also technically a mg limit, right? So I always wondered could you just make your coffee weaker so you could drink more cups but with less actual caffeine? ETA: weaker as in less caffeinated coffee used, without addition of decaf.

  • @MrsBunz welcome back! Had missed you around here.
  • @jrm_14 thanks for the info! I had heard some questionable stuff about the decaffination process but my problem is if I stop drinking coffee now, anyone who is around me from 6a-11a would 100% know that I'm trying to get pregnant. We are trying to keep it between me and my husband because I know for sure I'd be overly emotional with people asking!
  • @smashjam it's 200mg, and usually the strongest, biggest cup of coffee would typically only have up to 150mg. The reason I cut it out before was because I also drink a lot of tea and diet soda

    TW: Pregnancy
Turns out soda gave me the worst heartburn during pregnancy, so I totally didn't need to give up caffeinated coffee. If I'm fortunate enough to get KU again, I will be way more relaxed about all the "rules"

    TW/ child mentioned.

We are casually TTC, because I have yet to have a PP period after DD was born almost 18 months ago (I was in the April 2016 BMB, but did not participate much. DD was actually born a week late, May 1).

    End TW

What we are doing TGKU: trying very casually. I ordered a new BBT, but have yet to get into a consistent temping routine (see below, TW). I have OPKs, but seems a waste since I can’t determine CD 1.

TW: the first time around, I temped religiously. This time around, it’s difficult what with DD not sleeping through the night, and charting is all but impossible without a CD 1.
    End TW

About myself: I am an elementary school teacher, and DH is a high school teacher. We have a cat and a one year old daughter. We bought a house a year ago after a cross country move to be closer to family after DD was born, and we are working on fixing it up on our teachers’ salaries, so between home improvement projects, and making the most of our weekends with DD, life is pretty hectic.
  • @cthayer10 Welcome! I'm in the same boat (except I was in May16).

    Are you breastfeeding?

  • @lalala2004 - I'm taking this conversation over to TFAS - may be more appreciated there :)
  • @jrm_14 Seconding the 200mg per day. An 8oz cup of drip coffee usually is around 90-120mg. So half-caff could be the answer. The thing is you have to account for tea, soda, chocolate, etc you consume as well. No one gets too weird about it, so it's really how comfortable you feel.
As for the decaffienating process, there are several different methods. I think 3 use chemicals and 1 doesn't. It's called the Swiss water process. Dazbog is a CO based company, so I don't know if anyone else has them, but they use swiss water for thier decaf. Also the darker the roast the less caffiene.

@lalala2004 Yes on the psychosomatic effect. But it could actually be the smell.
