I found that good maternity clothes last throughout pregnancy and beyond.
My crappy maternity clothes didn't fit later on. If you think it won't stretch, it might not. Not that you bought crappy clothes...I mean some retailers accommodate better.
Motherhood Maternity clearance has steals you can't beat and their clothes are very thoughtfully made, even if the fashion is off.
I bought under belly shorts that I wear preg and non preg and I'm in love. Also, under belly stuff works better for me as I can just keep pulling them lower as I get bigger.
I am kind of frustrated that the maternity clothing world hasn't caught on that women want to see more variety in body shapes when buying clothes. I'm getting frustrated as I browse because I want to have a realistic idea of how something might look on me, but I'm not a tall, slender, all-bump pregnant woman like all the models I see. It's either that or plus size and there's no in between. I'm short, athletic, and have a thicker lower body. Is it too much to ask to have them mix it up a little with body types beyond the 2 sizing options?!
@LiveNLove44 I feel you. I am also short. I need petite, however my DH has described my legs as diesel. So..... just because you are petite doesn't mean you have twig legs too! I bought two pairs of dress pants at Motherhood Maternity last weekend that fit. They are petite and they fit my legs too. The annoying thing is that they only have some petite items, online isn't any better. If I'm paying so much for pants, I don't want to pay a tailor to hem too!

This is a totally whiny comment, but I HATE that I haven’t been able to find maternity clothes that look remotely like how I dress when not pregnant. (Or I have, but it’s all expensive.) I wish there was a wider variety sizing and fashion-wise. I feel like there’s a large market for maternity clothes and limited options. (Especially in-store.)
Has anyone seen any cute dresses that would work for a wedding guest? I need something with an empire waist to make me look more pregnant, otherwise I just look like a chubby blob, lol. I have a wedding next Saturday to go to and I haven't even started looking yet. I hate maternity clothes. I took a quick peak online at Motherhood but they all looked kind of summery, and it's been in the 60s here.

I'm at a wedding today and I'm wearing this. bought it last week at motherhood
@bb3vj3n, @newmomtx06 thanks ladies! That's super cute! I'll run to the mall this week and see how I like it. Maybe I can find a light jacket or cardigan to wear over it to make it a little warmer. It's an evening wedding and they're saying mid 50's and drizzly, uck.
@ashleyf911 I had a lot of luck shopping in the normal-sizing section (non-maternity) and just buying a size that fit my bump best in my last two pregnancies. There are usually more styles to choose from and you can find tons of empire waistlines that flatter and promote cute bump-ness. (Those dresses are also easier to sell (if you do that sort of thing) once you're done having children).)

Yes to this. All the maternity clothing pictures are not women in the first half of pregnancy. Even the ones on Gap/Old Navy where you can sort by trimester, the pictures are of obvious big round bumps. Most of us don't look like that yet.
ksmwalters I totally agree. Haven't seem much stuff that I like.
And I also have problems with sizing. I wanted a pair of jeans when Gap had a sale, but they didn't have any maternity, short length, in my size. The ones that came in short were basically sold out.
I basically have two pairs of pants I can go out of the house in, and a few shirts that still button. haha
Shout out to my cousin who just gave me two overflowing boxes of maternity clothes. This is my first pregnancy and thank goodness for her, I'm not gunna need to buy a thing. She even had two winter coats in there, bless her.
For those of you asking where to shop, I noticed almost all the brands were Old Navy and Motherhood Maternity.
Maternity clothes at Old Navy is for the most part online. However...... yesterday I was returning a bunch of stuff that didn't fit and for poops and giggles asked if they had maternity clothes in store. The cashier told me they had a small rack in the back because they are clearing out their maternity clothes. Guess who scored a pair of jeans for $1.99, leggings for $1.49 and a maxi dress for $4.97? Going to hit up the Old Navy at the mall today if I can find the motivation

Bought 2 pairs of maternity jeans from Target today! Question: I had to size down and I'm not sure if it's because I've lost weight since getting pregnant or if sizing in general is weird for maternity? Just trying to gauge what's normal for if I decide to order stuff online. Thanks y'all!
@ksmwalters I think it depends on the brand TBH...and shirts vs. pants. I personally gain weight in my hips and butt during pregnancy, so typically size up or stay medium for pants... for shirts, it's either smalls or mediums.... so hard to know!! I am not petite, typically size 8-9, 5'6, so I always wonder how you petite pregnant ladies find shirts if I'm a size small?? Are there XXS maternity shirts for you??
