Re: Questions - Week of 10/2

  • @sarahhedger7 I had really good luck with the Lansinoh bags. You just can't fill them up too full (I always did 6oz) and leak less if you freeze them flat.  I tried Medela and didn't like them at all. I've heard the target up&up brand bags are good, too.

  • @sarahhedger7 I used Medela for a long time at first, and then switched to Lanisoh because I could find them cheaper. Both worked really well, and as @ashleyf911 mentioned, freeze them flat (space saver) if you are storing. My supply was always sensitive and every drop was hard to come by, so I felt good trusting both of those brands

  • @sarahhedger7 I actually really liked the lansinoh brand bags! You lay them flat to freeze then you can store them easier.
  • @sarahhedger7 Lansinoh. The others seemed to leak when I tried them.
  • I think I had my first Round Ligament Pain this weekend but I'm not 100% sure. What I have read about it online says it should only last a few minutes and is usually on the right side but this lasted about 20 -30 min on the left side. I was getting out of bed and I felt this horrible pain in my lower left side from around my hip area. I felt like the baby was about to tear through my uterus but the pain was higher rather than lower. It eased off a little then there was another wave.
This kept on for about 20-30 minutes and then I still had some soreness the rest of the day. I noticed it got tons better after I drank a lot of water. I would say it was about the severity of a kidney stone though I did not feel this pain in my back or lower groin at all. I left a message at my doctor's office but it usually takes them awhile to call back on Mondays. Does this sound like RLP? Could it have been Braxton Hicks? I didn't feel much like a contraction to me but I don't really know what contractions feels like tbh.

  • @sarahhedger7 +1 to Lansinoh - I've used a variety (exclusively pumped w/ my first) and Target brand is a good cheaper alternative as well.

I found that none of the brands are leak proof (some just less often than others), so when I was defrosting I always put it in a ziplock if I needed to defrost in water. If I wasn't defrosting in water, then a clean bowl was fine so I didn't lose milk that leaked.

  • For any of you ladies who were discussing different body pillows, Motherhood online has the Snoogle for 30% off right now!  Although the fact that some of you gave it rave reviews convinced me the Snoogle was the way to go, I couldn't quite stomach spending $60 on a pillow - so I'm feeling prettttty euphoric about finding this discount!
  • @muggle621 doesn't sound like Braxton hicks or RLP. BH contractions are a tightening across your entire uterus and your stomach gets hard. If they hadn't lasted so long, I would say RLP but you're right about those being quick pains and not lasting half an hour. I think it's good you called your doctor. Rest and stay hydrated, and keep us updated!
  • @muggle621: Day 9 of a kidney stone here and I pray that isn't what you have as well. From my first hand, current experience, you can feel kidney stone pain by your hip so I'd still say that's a possibility. Before I had the stone diagnosis the doctor also told me it's possible the baby is pushing on your ureter the same way a kidney stone would and can block urine from flowing out of your kidney and cause very similar flank pain. I believe this is called hydronephrosis.
    RLP shouldn't last that long.

Either way, I hope you feel better quickly!

@notthefather I am so sorry you have a kidney stone!!! Those are the worst. What can you do for a kidney stone while pregnant? I have been getting kidney stones since I was 21; I even had one surgically removed in 2014. Getting one while pregnant is my biggest fear! My stone pain is usually in my back and groin and even though the pain was comparable intensity wise to a stone I didn't think it was one due to the pain location. I didn't realize the baby may push on the ureter.....I guess a possible kidney stone is back in the running of possibilities. I wish my doctor's office would call back!!!
I hope you pass it soon! Drink acidic things if you aren't already.

@ShawnnaO Thanks for the response. It's nice to hear from someone who experienced RLP instead of reading an article a male doctor wrote.

  • @sarahhedger7 I also liked the Lanisoh ones. I found Target's up and up brand to be nearly identical to them as well and slightly cheaper! The big thing I was looking for was the double seal. I had way too many issues with the Medela ones for that reason.
  • @muggle621: They can't do much. It was diagnosed through a urine sample collected by catheter (which was just insult to fucking injury) and an ultrasound. I was given nausea medicine and pain medicine and told to wait it out. They didn't want to do a CT scan or an Xray because of the pregnancy so I don't know how big, how many, or where they are. I think at some point they would intervene with surgery but it is definitely worst case scenario. I'm drinking as much water as I can stand but it's tough to drink enough water when drinking water makes you sick. It's been an absolute nightmare.

  • @sarahhedger7 I agree with everyone else on the Lanisoh bags. I never had one leak and was able to store them laying down.

  • @notthefather Holy shit a catheter collection?! That's ridiculous. Try lemonade (if you can stand it), gatorade, or vitamin water - that may help change it up from water. Lemonade or anything acidic is supposed to help break up the stones.
I hope you don't have to have surgery. It's not bad pain wise but it's just awkward to see about 6 people gathered around your urethra right before they put you under. :/

This. Loved Target brand bc basically...All bags have issues and target was cheap and decent.

I never filled bags more than a few ounces so I wouldn't have to deal with leaks and the laying flat freezer mess. That seemed to forgive whatever bag I used.

I agree and would add this: The initial "stab" pain is quick but for me, some pain lingers on for awhile after then turns to soreness.

Quick anecdote: I didn't know what BH were in my first pregnancy. I kept thinking my son was stretching and pushing with his hands, feet and back against my uterus. So yes...BH is an all over tightness or hardness across the belly.

Doing leg lifts on a chair back or marching in place with high knees is a.good little move for the rlp soreness. And never sneezing again would help, if I could manage such an impossibility!
  • @barrelocarol Pregnancy makes a good sneeze such an adventure.

Now I want all the pink lemonade in the world.

Someone mentioned core exercises and I'm hoping that saves the day.
