Questions - Week of 10/2

Re: Questions - Week of 10/2

  • I used a cheap wedge my last pregnancy and it was amazing! Just wedged it under my bump and that provided the support I needed !

  • Gasp! I LOVE my snoogle! At first it hurt my neck, but then I got rid of my regular pillow because the height was just too much with both. I don't use all the positions though. If it's not the same height/thickness as whatever head pillow you're used to I could see how that would be a problem. Also I'm 5 ft 1 so maybe it doesn't work as well for you normal adult height ppl? IDK.

@fatstagnation Yes the RLP is real and it keeps catching me by surprise. I actually woke MH up the other night because it came in so sharp out of nowhere when I was turning in my sleep.
  • @fatstagnation, yes! RLP sucks and strikes at the most inconvenient times. I've found that simply being a little more cautious when I'm moving around and twisting or bending at the waist usually helps keep it to a minimum. When I got bigger with DD, I used a pregnancy support belt to help too. Mine was kinda bulky but did help.
I really appreciate all the feedback for the issue I've been having with DD. I'll definitely try the positive/negative reinforcement more, as we're already incorporating that with her speech therapy and potty training. Thank you all again!
  • I just use a regular squishy pillow. It’s a longer one, but not a body pillow. I prefer that over my snoogle that’s collecting dust on the basement storage shelf.  :/
  • I'm only 5 2 so maybe that's why it's not working for me. I think I might get just a body pillow and maybe the wedge everyone is mentioning and work with those. At least I used a coupon on my Snoogle so I don't feel bad about buying it lol I just need extra support behind my back because it does ache and also I keep waking up to find myself lying on my back, which I'm also trying to control.
  • I love my snoogle too! I also don't use it in combination with a regular pillow (that'd be too much height) and I'm only 5'2. Maybe it just works better with short people?

  • Guys, this might be a stupid question but... I can have beer bread right? The alcohol cooks out doesn't it?
  • @bb3vj3n thank goodness, I've got a recipe pinned on Pinterest that's calling my name today
  • maelily15  @vflux33 ugh. It's the kinda pain I want to put a heat pad on, but I'm assuming that's not safe or it'd be recommended all over the internet. Just trying to move slowly...

Glad to see the discussion of pillows. I was debating getting something special, but I also have neck problems and use a small pillow. Maybe a wedge is the best bet. @kiki75 getting a blank at Michael's is brilliant!

@shawnnaO recipe please. I've got beer sitting around that I can't drink. ;)

  • Here you go, @fatstagnation

I'm making it tomorrow to eat with the leftover stew I think!
  • I hated my a snoogle with my first until 7 months so try again ladies who don't love it right now.  This pregnancy I've been sleeping in the snoogle for a month now and finally sleep well so I'm scared to get rid of it!!! I first told hubby just for a few nights but I'm pretty sure it's here to stay! I'm 5'2, I also push it to the very top of the bed.... maybe the pillow part is broken in this time from my last pregnancy and that's why I love it this time around?? Bc I do remember having the complaint you all have about the pillow being too much. Maybe put something heavy on it for a few days to break it in?
  • @fatstagnation Actually I think heating pads are fine during pregnancy if you're using them on your back--I've read online that they don't raise your core body temperature the way a sauna would. Maybe check with your doctor or research yourself before putting directly on your belly, but it's worth looking into if you think it will help.
  • Help. The underside of my belly is so heavy and painful, even in the morning before fatigue sets in. What can be done to relieve the pain?

This lasted for months in my last pregnancy and I can't go through that again. I was in tears by the end of the day last time.
@barrelocarol the BLANQI support tank is supposed to help a lot, but I think that will also fall into the same category of concern as your PT mentioned. TBH, doing core exercises safe for pregnancy is going to by your best long term solution. Although it may not feel like it helps right now, it will make an impact in the long run. I remember that pain at the end of my second pregnancy, and I'm sure it'll be worse this time around, but I'm hoping to hold off on the tank top or band until I must! I hope you find something that works for you!!

  • @barrelocarol I had a Boppy brand one from Target with my first pregnancy and it worked well. I bought a Snoogle for my second and it has lasted longer and I like it more for my preferred sleeping positions. I'm sorry to hear it doesn't sound like it's as loved in other homes!! My sister has a Snoogle, too, and has loved it, so maybe it's just a sleeper-style situation.

edit: I saw that this question was previously answered. Good luck!  :)

@bb3vj3n Maybe also try taking a "baby basics" class at a local hospital. I am more of a visual person so going to the class helped me as a FTM.
  • I'm so surprised at all the snoogle hate - lol. I LOOOOOVE my snoogle. it is my favorite possession.  i will have a hard time letting it go after this baby ( but DH has put his foot down - he hates it). i get to keep it as long as i need it though
  • I love my Snoogle too! (I'm 5'4".) I will say it does take a few nights to get used to it, I didn't like it the first time I used it.

I use a pretty flat pillow with the top of the snoogle underneath my head - when the acid reflux starts having your head elevated a bit really helps. I also have the wedge pillow by Boppy I bring into the mix during third tri.

  • I have never used a Snoogle, but I love my Leachco Back N Belly pillow. It's huge but I don't have to move it when I turn over.

  • I started this pregnancy at a higher BMI than with my last one. I had a lot of morning sickness in the first trimester and lost a couple pounds. Now that I'm 16 weeks, I'm looking pregnant but have only gained about 2 pounds. We heard the heartbeat on Monday, so I'm thinking everything is fine, but I lost my last pregnancy, so I'm feeling pretty worried. My next appointment is at 18 weeks, so I'm hoping things are fine. Anyone else have a similar situation?

I’m so sorry for your prior loss. I did not gain weight in either pregnancy until after this point.   My doctor was not concerned for either. It’s normal for women to lose weight in the beginning, especially if they experienced morning sickness. I know it’s hard, by try not to let this worry you.

  • I can't find it listed anywhere. Does anyone know caffeine content in Red Rose orange pekoe tea? I usually drink a cup a day (since my tea aversion ended) but could really use a second cup today!! I am very cautious about my caffeine intake given *TW* 2 previous miscarriages *end TW*.

    Anyone know?
  • I got this non-toxic memory foam body pillow & am pretty into it. It's super cool to spoon with and can adapt to uses other than sleeping (ie, propping yourself up in a plush throne to drink coffee in bed in the AM).
  • @justkeeptrying I don't know about the exact caffeine content but we are "allowed" to have 200mg per day. An 8oz cup of coffee has about 80mg of caffeine so I would say that you should be alright to continue your daily cup.. and indulging in an extra one occasionally shouldn't hurt anything. I know women that have continued to drink coffee throughout the day, not modifying their habit at all, and gone on to deliver healthy babies.
  • @sarahhedger7, thanks! I did decide to indulge in an extra cup today and it definitely hit the spot. I figured having 2 cups in one day every once in a while wouldn't be a big deal!
  • I was in a minor car accident tonight. Totally not my fault. A likely drunk jack wagon passed me on a double yellow because I was only doing 29 in a 25. Surprise, there was oncoming traffic. So they cut back in before they were clear of my car. Because of the style of crash (I had been down to 25 and I would think that I started braking when I saw the oncoming car, idk it happened pretty fast) and when I was clipped (they hit right at the front tire-front of my car) they were going the same direction. If I weren't pregnant, I wouldn't give it a second thought. Physically, I don't feel any different. Would you guys stop in at a walk in clinic tomorrow? I don't even know if I would normally do that much but I'm going on a 2.5 hour flight tomorrow so it seems prudent to be cautious? Or is that bonkers?

Spoiler alert, heck no they didn't stop. They floored it and sped off. It's a miracle they didn't hit and kill a pedestrian. They were headed to an area that's a 20 mph limit because there are so many ding dongs who wander across the road without looking. And it's a Saturday night with lplenty of people on basically a wine crawl.

  • @kiki75 That is terrible! I'm glad it wasn't more serious, but it sounds scary.  I don't think it would hurt to get checked out (especially if you're traveling), but I'm not sure a walk in clinic would be equipped (or trained even,  I feel like it is the B team on the weekends at walk ins where I live...). Maybe call the clinic in the morning, explain your story and ask if they'd be able to check you and baby. Or does your OB have an after hours nurses line to call?

  • @kiki75 I’m so sorry, that’s so scary! I would call your ob’s after hours line and let them know what happened. They can better advise you on what you need to do. A walk in may turn you away because you’re pregnant.
  • @kiki75, wow! That is terrible! I'm sorry that happened to you. I would definitely go get checked out. Might as well give you some peace of mind that everything's okay before your trip. But I agree that maybe a walk in clinic isn't the best place? Depends on your area as to whether you think that's appropriate or not. Maybe urgent care?
  • @kiki75, I agree that calling the OB's office for direction would be a good way to go.

And damn, dude, glad you're okay!

  • @kiki75 that's so frustrating and unnerving!! I'm sorry that happened. In my area, I'd call our OB triage unit in the hospital if it's the weekend, and they usually give me the best information for what to do. I've learned that around my place, if I go into UC/ER or walk-in clinics not specifically for pregnancy, I spend a lot more time surrounded by pretty ill people before I get an answer or specific guidance for what I need. OB triage has people on hand at all times who can help you out with your best next step! They could also call in to your walk-in to provide insight prior to your arrival (in my experience). I hope all is well!!

@kiki75 that sounds scary! It's good that you feel ok, but I second, third, fourth everyone's suggestions to call your OB triage before your trip. Hoping you stay feeling good, if not shaken up a bit!

  • @kiki75 Oh wow I'm sorry and so glad you're OK! If you don't feel hurt, and the speed of all this was under 30 mph you're probably OK, BUT I agree with PPs that I'd call my OB and/or a 24 hour nurse advice hotline if you can't reach your OB just in case to put your mind at ease. Even if you can't get in and get an ultrasound before your flight at the very least you can plan one for ASAP and get on their schedule.
  • @kiki75 Glad your alright! I would get checked at an urgent care. Keep us updated!
  • @kiki75 I am so glad you are ok and not too sore today.
  • @kiki75 I'm sure everything happened so fast you weren't able to get a plate number? If you can remember anything about the car, I would still file a police report. If they did it once, they may do it again to someone else. I'm glad you're feeling okay and just be thankful it wasn't worse.  :/
