Moms who smoke/vape

I’ve been vaping for 2 years now. It was easy to quit with my first pregnancy the day I found out. This pregnancy, I’m 7w2d and I’m having a really hard time quitting vaping. Yes it’s not as bad as cigarettes, there’s no nicotine in it but it’s all mental and I’m finding it impossible to quit. My husband vapes and won’t stop so I see him and that doesn’t help. Of course I love my child and I don’t want to endanger him/her. I feel very selfish. Is there any one whose quit smoking who can give advice? Please no mean comments telling me I’m horrible. I want to stop, just need some help!

  • I have no experience with smoking or vaping but I know there are some medications that can help kick the smoking habit. Maybe it'd be worth a convo with your OB to see if there are any pregnancy safe medications or other techniques to help you quit. Hopefully you find the support you need to stop for you and baby's safety.
  • Oh my, what is vaping? Do I really live that far under a rock???
It’s kind of like using an e-cig.

  • Ahhhh, I have seen those, just didn't know the term, lol.
  • Never vamped but once smoked.  If it's vaping without nicotine (congrats on busting the nicotine habit btw), I wonder it's the deep breathing all inhalers of smoke-like objects/things miss when quitting.  Have you tried deep breathing exercises?  Also, is it "an escape/break, stress reliever" etc?  If you figure out what it's doing for you (vaping), try replacing it with something else specific that creates a similar effect (e.g. Walk, meditate, music, read, sex, talk on the phone).  Good luck!!!  You're doing the best thing for your baby by quitting!!!!

  • Well done for wanting to quit! I used to be a wine and cigarette in the evening type of smoker but when I was first pregnant the taste of snoke just made me feel so sick (I didn't know I was pregnant at the time). Find out what your triggers are and avoid them. For instance if you always sit on a bench outside at lunch to smoke don't step foot outside the door, distract yourself with other things. If it's the physical sensation chew gum, if it's keeping your hands busy make homemade Christmas cards. Tell your partner it's dangerous for the baby and you don't want him to do it infront of you anymore.
